Your phone can be opened with your fingerprint and that is safe enough.

But to prevent accidental viewing, you should hide your sensitive pictures by archiving them.

Else you need to use the locked folder in Google Files, but then it becomes a quite complicated procedure to remove them from Google etc.

I save a lot of files in my Facebook folder on my device for work.

Thinking that everything was backed up, according to Google, I went back to reference something in my Facebook folder and the entire folder is gone. I have scrolled through all of my Google photos and nothing I saved as of yesterday is even there. Can someone please tell me what happened? If these photos are supposedly backed up? Where are they? Why would it have deleted a folder of mine that wasn't backed up?

But in general Google Photobooks often have a lot of critics here, so you better may go for bookquality at Blurb. Others may have good experience with that and as far as I know, their designer software can connect to Google Photos. But any photo need good editing before it can be used in any book and that editing can be done much better on photos.google.com in the Chromebrowser of your laptop then on the small screen of an Android - also the designing of the book.

Do you mean Picasa3 on the computer ? Then the photos are on the computer where you used Picasa. See this link. When the photos were uploaded to Picasaweb, they should now be visible in https://photos.google.com/albums or https://get.google.com/albumarchive when you sign in to the same account used for uploading.

Not really. Picasa is a program that makes an inventory of photos on your computer, but the photos are (or were) in folders on your computer. See this link.

Google does not move photos without you asking for it. It os possible that the photos are still in folders on the computer, but Picasa does not show them anymore. Did you go through the checklist I submitted ? See this link.

We never can explain such observations, but using heif is a wrong idea - also for videos because that heavy compression format has a bad effect on picture quality - they get too much contrast - at least on my Samsung.

If you are using the storage saver quality in your backupsetting, heic's are converted to jpg anyhow, so you don't gain much bytes at Google compaired to original jpg compressed by Google.

And at sharing, others may run into problems on their (old) computers.

Back to standard jpg and mp4 is the best solution for everyone.

Just tried: same problem.

I opened an old picture from Januar 1, 2018 still stored on my phone in the new simple Google GO Gallery and just tried its magic wand to improve the picture and that worked-out surprisingly good, so I choose Replace and thereafter I did upload that edited picture to Google Photos and it landed on top of my stream today, dated August 10, 2019.

So a sick editor that ruïnes original dates and thereby causing confusion.

Google Lens only can work when you have wifi and when you are logged-in under the small circle right-up.

Instead of wifi the use of your mobile datanetwork must be allowed.

It also maybe wise to close all apps and to restart your phone and then start the Google Photos app only.

@Rinus the problem is that the app doesn't sync the photos itself, although the Backup and sync is activated. Meaning, I have to manually go into the app and make sure that sync runs.

The fact that I don't do this on a daily basis gets me personally to a point where I enter once in a few weeks and upload aprox. 2000 photos, which then takes hours and breaks constantly.

Be aware that having so many photos per week is abnormal and why should you go for Google Photos then instead of simply connecting your phone to your computer for fast copying and decent processing. Thereafter you can upload selected and edited pictures to Google via your browser.

Just volonteers here,

PS: the usual problem on iPhones is that the app is not allowed to work in background and that some battery saving setting may hinder fast backupping because it is a heavy task.
