Hi Bridger,
I’m sorry, it’s not possible to recover photos or videos permanently deleted from the Google Photos Trash. However, you may install to your Android device a deleted video recovery app (be sure to pick one that doesn't require rooting) https://play.google.com/store/search?q=recover%20deleted%20videos&c=apps and run a scan for anything to recover.

Hi, KDarshan Prabhu
Welcome to Google Photos Community Support Forum & thanks for your query.
The stock Android OS (The one used in Google Pixel Phones) creates a separate folder for the Screenshots thus not mixing up in the DCIM folder.
However, that's not the case with the modified flavours of Android used by other phone manufacturers.
You need to seek help from your Phones' manufacturer to have an update to the OS.

I suggest, before proceeding to delete the pics on the cloud, read the following article first.
When you delete a photo in Google Photos it will also be deleted from all synced devices. In practice that are only mobile devices (phones and tablets) since syncing with computers has been disabled. There are however ways to do this:
- Disable Backup and sync on the device
- Move the photo to a non-synced folder before you delete it from Google Photos.

There may be third-party apps that let you change EXIF information, but I don't have a recommendation.
You can change dates on the web version of Photos.
1. Open https://photos.google.com

3. Open the image
4. Select (i) info icon

You can extract a still frame from a video through these steps.
- Tap to open the video
- Tap once again to make the controls visible
- Tap the edit icon
at the bottom
- Tap on the middle to make the frame selector visible.
- Mover the frame selector. You will see a preview of the frame above the selector. Once you decide about the right frame, then tap on export.
That frame will get saved as a still photo in your collection

Whenever I edit a photo saved on the SD card of my phone and synced to the cloud, I can only save a copy of the photo. In previous versions I could always save the edits directly without making a copy.
If I edit the photo in the web interface the edits get synced to my phone, but whenever I do further edits on the phone, I can again only click on "save copy".

Hi,
Answer:
Same here on a Samsung Galaxy S8.
- The camera app is set to save photos to the external SD card.
- Google Photos only offers a "Save copy" button on those photos.
- Google Photos saves the edited copies to a PhotosEditor folder on internal storage.
- If I enable "Backup & sync" on the PhotosEditor folder, I then get duplicates (original + edited) in my photo stream.
Answer:
What you see in the app are your locals as far as their folders are included. So you never can't avoid to see both, because the app-editor seems not to be able to save on sd over the original image.
Thereby it needed to create the additional devicefolder for storing the edited copy.
As said in an comparable thread, you only can avoid this by not editing in the app, but using an additional app for editing for storing in the original file. Maybe the simple Google Go gallery can do that or the much more extended Snapseed-editor from Google. Else you must do the editing on the web in photos.google.com in the Chrome-browser only, preferably on laptop because then you have a larger screen for much better control.
PS: you have "spammed" in many other comparable threads, but I don't copy my answer there and because I don't use an sd-card, I can't check myself on my Samsung A40 either.
So for further discussion, stay here to get answers from other volonteers (no Google here).

Hi,
I would like to download all my pics in google photos as a backup (I use one drive for storage since this is included in my subscription) but I am not able to sync the pictures to my desktop.
(sync on smartphone ad devices is not activated, this are older pictures)
The simplest solution would be if I could select all the images at once in the google photos web app and then do a download.
if anyone has a trick to do this then then this would be a solution.
At the moment I can only select at a day level.
If not possible then I would need to have a method to link this to some kind of syncronisation.
I am not able to select this in any menu.
Neither on the sync app on the desktop nor in the browser.
Thanks in advance for your suggestions.
Regards, JT

Google Photos does not have a syncing connection to pc - never have had and never will have.
You can make bulk selections in your browser (up to about 500), but I have no idea about your amounts.
But you can use Take-out and choose the yearalbums only and you can set that you receive an update every two months. Read here (the json-files can be deleted).
You also can decide to stop with Google Photos at Januar 1, 2022 and then install the OneDrive-app for syncing straight to pc via its Camera-album and then you also can use the space in OneDrive-cloud for having a backup there - also for sharing albums which can be created - like on Google Photos.
But that is a complete different story.
Come back here for further discussion if needed.

Answer:
No Google here - just volonteers.
And we can't know about your changed settings,
But if you open a Whatsapp folder under Pictures on devices on the Library-page, the backup-switch should have been in on position - else these pictures are not shown on the Photos-page between your own pictures. And if there is no switch, you may have switched-off the main backup under settting in your profile circle. If everything is okay it may need a day to get the backup completed - you can see that under your profile. Thereafter you can start to empty the WA-folder(s) in your gallery.
Good luck

I need to be able to easily, frequently and regularly remove photos from Google Photos backup without them being removed from my device.
Answer:
Hi, Jai H
Welcome to Google Photos Community Support Forum & thanks for your query.
The backup is stuck up for some reason.
You have to resolve that issue first.
Here are some likely reasons for the backup to get stuck.
There can be multiple reasons for the backup not to happen.
# The quantum of photos to be backed is high.
# WIFI connectivity is intermittent. Too many devices connected to the same router thus restricting the bandwidth.
# Download & upload speeds are too asymmetric.
# Google Photos app is not allowed to use
- Data in the background
- Mobile data
- Mobile data while roaming
# Activation of data saver through the settings.
# Putting a limit on the daily use of mobile data through the settings in the app.
# Putting a limit on the use of total data in a month through the settings in the phone.
# Activating battery saver or super saver mode.
# Existence of some zero byte file in the folder being backed up
Can you please go through these checks & confirm that these are addressed?

The easiest way to speedup the process would be to copy the pics & videos to some PC & then upload through that.
Once done, you can delete the originals from your phone using the "Delete from device" option that appears below each item.

Hello Jack Bradford,
Welcome to Google photos Community.
Photos uploaded at any quality cannot be undone.
If you have access to original quality photos on your phone or desktop suggest you to delete previous 3000 photos aka at High quality and upload the photos with original bill quality.
To do that,
Open Google photos click on your profile
Photos settings
Backup and sync and then select original quality .
Let me know how it goes.
Thanks.
Answer:
That's a wrong advise from Yasin and will lead to the potential loss of many originals - at least on phone.
You will have to do a lot of carefull work and in general people have wrong ideas about original quality.
Even apart from videos 3000 photos at original quality will fill-up your free space almost immediately and will block further use - also of Gmail and Drive. So before doing anything you have to move your limit to 100 GB and that will cost you about 20 dollar per year - see one.google.com/storage and you may need to upgrade to 200 GB at the end of 2022 etc. etc.
Because the majority of your 3000 were uploaded before June 1 at high quality, they don't count for Google. I would leave that bulk because high quality = high quality. Your change to original will have effect on new uploads only - from phone as well as from your computer. So let that go for until the end of this year until your are going to approach your 15 GB limit and then decide what to do with the oldies.
Probably you will discover that original quality has not much value in normal life over the oldies at high quality.
Answer:
Hello Jack,
There is possibly another way to do this and I suggest trying with a small batch as follows.
Change the settings to Original at https://photos.google.com/settings
Go back to Photos and select Upload from computer and choose the sample batch of photos.
Re-check at https://photos.google.com/quotamanagement
I won't make any comment about the need to do this as I only use HQ/SS keeping the Originals on my PC and USB Pen drives for backup
Let us know if it works,
Peter
Answer:
To my surprise this works Peter, but for browser-uploads only.
But not via the app on phone, so then you need to transfer all phone-photos to pc first and then apply free-up space to clean the phone.
Nevertheless thanks for the tip.

I need to be able to easily, frequently and regularly remove photos from Google Photos backup without them being removed from my device.
Backup and sync are two separate concepts and they seem to be linked in a problematic way in Google Photos. If Google Photos is able to remove photos on my device (synching) then the original images are compromised by a mere backup facility.

Hi, Andrew Ciavarella
Thanks for your reply.
Yes, I provided a stock reply.
Nevertheless, one can find answers to most of the queries here by searching previous posts.
However, If someone writes, "I have tried these steps based on the previous answers", then that user would get some more focussed attention.
The Backup & Sync functions in Google Photos are inseparable.
You can turn off backup. However, the moment you switch it on, the sync function will replicate your actions.
The only way to prevent the replication is moving the pics on the device out of sight from Google Photos. Then the app can't replicate any delete action on the cloud.
Nevertheless, the principal intention of the Google Photos service is to store everything on the cloud only. Users should not retain anything on the phone.
And that allows more storage space on the phone to click new pics.
But, if someone is desirous of having a backup of pics on the phone in original quality, cloud storage may not be the right economical solution. Copying the content to one or more HDDs remains the best option in that case.

Hi, I have created a couple of videos on my Pixel 2 using the photo assistant. Each one consists of several videos stitched together and a couple of images. I can play the whole thing fine (it's approx 4 mins long)…on my laptop within the google photos web site, But when I want to upload to YouTube is where the problems start.
It uploads, but only a fraction of the whole video. Maybe 15 seconds worth (with not even the music I selected!). Downloading or copying to Dropbox has exactly the same problem. When I show info on the video (in desktop chrome) it shows as 450 meg. Looks about right for a 720p video. However, the download is only ever 4-5 meg....and definitely finished...i.e. it's not the browser.
Attempting to 'download to device' on my Pixel 2 does the same thing - i.e. a short video.
This is one of the videos in question: https://photos.app.goo.gl/wI0HMieOerbpqoYf2

Hello Aaron,
Thanks for posting in the Google Photos Help Forum.
- Check your internet connection (mobile data).
- Close the Google Photos app and re-launch it.
- Sign out and sign back in to Google Photos with the same Google Account.
- Clear App data:
- Open your device's Settings app (not the Google Settings app).
- Touch Apps.
- Select Google Photos in the list.
- Touch Clear data.
- Update the Google Photos app on your Android phone:
- Visit the Google Play Store.
- Open Google Photos.
- Touch on Update.
Let me know how it goes.

The thing is, the same happens from the google photos web site on my desktop PC...so surely unrelated to caching / problems on my Pixel 2....not a lot is cached with Google Chrome on my Win7 PC. Looks like a problem/bug on the Google servers?
Answer:
Hi Aaron,
Thanks for writing back.
Could you please try using the Google Photos app by switching the phone to Safe Mode? In Android 4.1 or later versions, to reboot into safe mode you have to long press the power button until you get the options menu which has the following options – Power off, Airplane mode, and Silent mode. After getting these options on your screen, long press the Power off button, you will be getting a message that prompts you to reboot your device to safe mode. By tapping the OK button, your device will reboot into safe mode, which will disable all third party applications you have installed. You can be sure that your device started in safe mode by seeing a safe mode indicator on the bottom left side corner of your device screen.
Keep me posted.
Best,
Amanda

Hi Aaron,
Thanks for writing back.
Thanks for your feedback. I'm getting this checked with the product team.
Meanwhile, could you please try the same on a different device (Android, if possible) or different account to check what happens next and to know if this is a device specific issue or account related issue.
Let me know how it goes.

Transfer photo and video in gelery from Google photo
Hi, Raghu Singh 9643
Welcome to Google Photos Community Support Forum & thanks for your query.
Although there are multiple ways to transfer the content from the internal memory of the phone to an SD card, doing so through Google Photos allows retaining the backup and sync aspect.
Please follow the steps below to achieve the transfer.
- Open Google Photos.
- Tab Library.
- Tap the desired folder under Photos on the device like Camera, Screenshots etc.
- Select photos by long pressing then tap others after the tick confirms the first selection
- You can also long-press and stroke down while still in a pressed condition, to select a batch.
- Next, tap the 3 dot menu top right.
- Tap Move to folder.
- Tap New SD folder, type a folder name then tap Create.
Note that if the photos are backed up to Google Photos this will not remove them from the Photos, and even if the new folder is not selected for Backup & sync any contents will still be deleted if you delete that using the Google Photos app.

Hi, Pooja Reddy 4902
Welcome to Google Photos Community Support Forum & thanks for your query.
However, then, you will be missing another better offer.
Currently, Google offers unlimited storage for uploads of space saver quality photos & videos through Pixel phones & which will be lasting up to 31st January 2022.
That would provide much bigger storage space free if you can do so.

Hi,
My wife deleted some Google photos by accident and it looks like she emptied the trash.
These photos contained photos of our 1 year old son.
Would Google have backed these photos up and would they be able to restore the photos from the backup?
Answer:
Answer:
Hi thanks for the reply.
Answer:
1. Check your online account - photos.google.com
Answer:
We've tried all of the above.
Answer:
if they are permanently deleted from the trash there isn't any way you can restore it. They are permanently deleted.
Answer:
I understand your point but Google must take daily backups. There will be some from their Technical Team that can restore a backup. They do this for our work files.

Hello Gavin Fernandes ,
Welcome to Google photos Community.
Photos deleted from trash are permanently deleted.
Thanks.
Answer:
Hi thanks for the reply.
But Google must do daily/weekly backups of the cloud server. Surely they can recover the photos from a previous back up.
At work, a number of files were deleted from trash and Google were able to recover them so long as they were deleted within 60 days. My understanding is that they hold onto the photos for 60 days.
Answer:
Please review the following information in case there are any options you haven't yet tried.
1. Check your online account - photos.google.com
If your photos were successfully uploaded to your online Google Photos account they may be available there. Try visiting photos.google.com and searching for them. If you have more than on
2. Check the trash - photos.google.com/trash
Once you delete photos from your Google Photos account, they're moved to Trash for the next 60 days. If you deleted them by mistake you can always restore them from the Trash folder within those 60 days. Here's the link explaining how to recover them from Trash. If you have more than one Google account, check the trash for all of them.
If you accessed the Trash and manually sent the photos for permanent deletion, or if the 60 days expired, there is no way to recover them from Google Photos.
3. Review other options
- if you previously used Picasa, visit picasaweb.google.com and search for your photos.
- have you made any backups of the photos on your phone, camera, computer, or elsewhere?
- there is a small chance that you can restore the photos using a recover deleted photos app (Android). I haven't used them myself so have no specific recommendations. There may well be more app options if you visit the appropriate app store and try other search terms. I don't see any similar apps on the iOS store, but you could check yourself.
- you can contact the Google Drive support team to see if any deleted files may be recovered. Use the Google Drive contact form, click Missing or deleted files, select a contact option, and be sure to tell them you permanently deleted files in Google Drive.
- If you ever shared the photos with anyone else, it's possible they may have a copy they could share back or send to you.
Thanks.

Like I say, Google take daily backups of the Cloud Server. So the photos will have been backed up somewhere by Google. I just need them to restore from a particular moment in time. Surely they can do this.

Question: My mobile was reset but i have not get my back up any option
I have not found my photos
Hi, S.T Meena
Welcome to Google Photos Community Support Forum & thanks for your query.
There is no "Restore" function in Google Photos.
You will have to download the pics to your phone through any of the following steps.
To bring back the pics to your phone's gallery either, you can download photos one by one.
Regrettably, there is no option to do so on a batch of photos.
Alternatively, you can install the Google One app. There is a one time option to restore up to two hundred most recent photos to the device.
However, that will not restore the local folder structure.
There is no requirement to join Google One. The option is available to everyone.
However, the method may not be helpful to recover something when the count is more than two hundred.
Or, you can arrange for a bulk download by visiting the link https://takeout.google.com/.
Select the Google Photos app for data download.
Once the file is ready, you will get an email. Access that & unzip all the attachments into your phone's gallery.
That will bring everything to your phone.
Still, for more information, I suggest you visit this link https://sites.google.com/site/picasaresources/google-photos-1/how-to-transfer-google-photos-back-to-your-camera.
