Some of my pictures appear as blank white photo and i can't open them.

No idea because you don't tell about the source.

But after many deletions the app needs time to re-arrange the images and then you may have white holes temporarily. Just keep the app open when having good wifi.

First of you should check the Trash; any photos that were previously backed up and deleted less than 60 days ago will be in there.

Once you delete them from the trash they are permanently deleted; they are only recoverable in 60 days if they are still in the trash.

You could try using a third party photo recovery app at this point to try to recover some of what was lost from your phone - just type photo recovery into the play store and see what options are available.

Thanks for your reply. I don't want to impact other apps. Still, I remember that in the past, on other phones, when I created a new folder (only a folder with images in it? I forget), Google Photos would prompt me and ask if it should watch that folder. I think there also used to be a list of folders (in the Settings?) that Google Photos was watching... the list was somewhat useless because it only gave the folder name, not the complete location (the full path)... but at least I could remove folders that shouldn't be watched.

I may try something like removing all of the folders I want Google Photos to ignore, deleting and re-installing Google Photos (or clearing cache and data?), then moving those folders back one-by-one to see if I'll be asked. First, though, I'll hope that someone has another idea.

If you can't find the auto backup option in the Google Photos app I suggest that you turn off the option for having the Assistant generate creations like the Movie you got. Returned Android on aug 3 and got original iPhone reactivated.

Were the photos recently deleted? If so, you should be able to recover them from the trash within Google Photos

On your Android phone or tablet, open the Google Photos app .
At the bottom, tap Library Trash .
Touch and hold the photo or video you want to restore.
At the bottom, tap Restore.

If a deleted photo or video isn't in trash, you can’t restore it. You won't be able to restore a photo if:

You moved it to trash more than 60 days ago.
You moved it to trash, then emptied your trash.
You permanently deleted it from your trash.
You permanently deleted it from your device’s Gallery app, without backing it up first.

On an Android device, there are apps available which claim to be able to "scan" your phone to possibly recover pictures. Use these apps with caution and be sure to thoroughly research before installing on your device.
