When I used up my storage, my used storage count dropped from around 200gb to around 95gb. Did Google take all of my original quality backups and drop quality to storage saver, or what happened here?

I'd have expected a notification to change settings and a halt to further backups, but not a drop of quality in the archive, so I'm confused about the used storage drop. Photos in original quality, backups from an original Pixel and a Pixel 3a.

Answer:

Hello Ryan,

Welcome to the Google Photos Community,

The 3a only has unlimited storage for Storage saver uploads from the Pixel, but if you didn't use Recover storage I don't have an explanation.

Answer:

Hi Team,
As you can see in the attachment that I tried uploading 219 pics so that I can create a link to share pics with my friends but instead of 219 pics upload I got 4 upload in the dialog box and on sharing the link in WhatsApp it's coming as 0 pics uploaded in the link. Kindly look into the issue

Hi, Ridhima mahajan

Welcome to Google Photos Community Support Forum & thanks for your query.

All email clients stipulate some limit to the attachment size.
Gmail can accept a maximum size of 25 MB only.

However, instead of sending through an email, please use the sharing option in Google Photos.
That will do away with the size restriction.

If the pictures you're talking about were never uploaded to Google Photos, there's nothing that Google or any of the volunteers in this forum can do to help you get them back. Nobody here has access to your account, photos, videos, or other personal information.

Files that were never uploaded to the cloud cannot be recovered or restored by a cloud storage service. Simply put, Google can't help you recover files it never had in the first place

When I was given the option to open in Samsung Internet or hp printer instead of tapping just once I pressed always.

Answer:

You should try going into Settings and finding the app that you picked for "Always" in the list of apps. Tap on the app name and you'll see "Open by default" (you may have to expand the Advanced section). Tap that and choose the option to clear defaults.

If my suggestion doesn't work and you're still having trouble with this, you should ask for assistance from the Android forum because even though you're asking about pictures this has nothing to do with the Google Photos app.

Did the phone manufacturer provide you the gallery app? You may find some information on the manufacturer's site regarding how to restore that.
However, if you have Google Photos app installed on your phone, there shouldn't be any need to use a separate gallery app.

Question: How do I get back permanently deleted photos?

Recover permanently deleted photos from another phone

Hello Dave Rowe 6488,

Please review the following information in case there are any options you haven't yet tried.

1. Check your online account - photos.google.com
If your photos were successfully uploaded to your online Google Photos account they may be available there. Try visiting photos.google.com and searching for them. If you have more than on
2. Check the trash - photos.google.com/trash
Once you delete photos from your Google Photos account, they're moved to Trash for the next 60 days. If you deleted them by mistake you can always restore them from the Trash folder within those 60 days. Here's the link explaining how to recover them from Trash. If you have more than one Google account, check the trash for all of them.

If you accessed the Trash and manually sent the photos for permanent deletion, or if the 60 days expired, there is no way to recover them from Google Photos

3. Review other options
  • if you previously used Picasa, visit picasaweb.google.com and search for your photos.
  • have you made any backups of the photos on your phone, camera, computer, or elsewhere?
  • there is a small chance that you can restore the photos using a recover deleted photos app (Android). I haven't used them myself so have no specific recommendations. There may well be more app options if you visit the appropriate app store and try other search terms. I don't see any similar apps on the iOS store, but you could check yourself.
  • you can contact the Google Drive support team to see if any deleted files may be recovered. Use the Google Drive contact form, click Missing or deleted files, select a contact option, and be sure to tell them you permanently deleted files in Google Drive.
  • If you ever shared the photos with anyone else, it's possible they may have a copy they could share back or send to you.
 Thanks.

I have been sharing video from my Android phone on our family blogspot by accessing the video in Google Photo via Drive and making it public and getting an embed code to paste into the blog html.  That was kind of tedious, but better than nothing: now that Google Photo and Drive are no longer connected, I can't even find a way to access the videos in Photo and create that code!  Is there a way to manually pull a video from Photo into Drive?  (Aside from downloading it to my computer from Photo and uploading it to Drive, which seems bafflingly inefficient.)  Or, better yet, is there now a way to embed a video straight from Google Photo to blogspot?  Seems like that would've been an obvious thing to build in from the get-go, since photos are so easy, but evidently not...
Thanks for any tips!

Answer:

There hardly is any support for Blogger-problems here and I don't have a blog myself anymore.
But I can't remember that I ever have needed Google Drive for inserting pictures or movies in a new text.
However I always have my pictures in albums on Google Photos and these albums could be accessed via the Archive-tab, but maybe that is called Photos now after Google has updated his API in Januar.

So select that video on https://photos.google.com, hit the + right-up, choose Shared album, then New album and then type a title like "For Blogger" and press Enter. Then close the album.
Now you can finde that album via the editor in Blogger.

Next time you need a picture on Blogger. Then goto https://photos.google.com, select that picture (if already backupped via your phone or uploaded straight into the site), then click the + then choose Shared album and then select the album named "For Blogger".

Good luck.

Answer:

Unfortunately, the youtube slideshow technique discussed in the linked article no longer exists. I still think the answer to Lynness' question lies in Youtube. Google Photos does not want to host content for websites, but Youtube does. If you go to Youtube.com, log in to your Google account, and click the video+ icon then Upload Video, you should then see a "Import your videos from Google Photos"  note: this will also be going away when the Beta becomes live, but right now it's there.
Once your videos are in Youtube, embedding in Blogger is expected, just click the "insert a video" button.

If you still would prefer the Google Drive route, there is a way to get your videos from Photos to Drive using a mobile device. Here's a video: https://youtu.be/e4x42gsuGBQ
Hope that helps.

Answer:

In mean I did check my original proprosal and to my disappointment Blogger is still not updated for the new Google Photos API introduced in Januar, so direct inserting a video from a GP-album still does not work: it becomes a still image with a misleading movietriangle on top.
So for the time being you need the tric via Youtube indeed.
Or downloading the movie from Google Photos to pc and then uploading that file into Blogger.
Thereafter the PC-file can be deleted - that is not much work.
Goodnight from here.

Question: How do I invert a photo to show text right side up?

I can't locate where I can turn a photo to be right side up to be readable

Hi Karen,

>>>How do I invert a photo to show text right side up?

I don't have access to an up-to-date Android phone, so I can't confirm this for sure.. but on iOS, the Rotate option has recently been moved to the "Crop" menu inside the edit function (Sliders icon) of Google Photos.

Snapseed has both Rotate and Flip (within the Rotate menu).

Snapseed has a number of interesting editing tools (I like the perspective feature).
Snapseed is free and integrates well with Google Photos.  It is a Google app.

Hi!

New to Google Photo's and have a little question.
I enabled the folders to sync/back-up, but when i go to Google Photo's i dont see them in folders just all in the same place sorted by date.

Is it possible to back-up them in the original folders?

Thanks in advance!

Answer:

No, that's not possible. Google Photos will always show you all of your pictures in the order they were taken/created. It does not copy or recreate any kind of folder structure. This is because you can upload pictures and videos to Google Photos from multiple devices, computers, phones, tablets, etc. and each one of those devices have pictures uploaded from many different folders. It would be a complete mess to try recreating all of the folders from all of the devices.

What you can do is create albums inside Google Photos and add pictures and videos to those albums, regardless of what device you uploaded from.

Question: How to i recover videos if I deleted permanent from the bin..

Help me to recover my permanent deleted videos..i urgently required.

WAJID SHAH,

Following is text from the official Google Photos Help page about deleting and restoring photos and videos:

Restore photos & videos
If you deleted an item and want it back, check your trash to see if it’s there.
  1. On your Android phone or tablet, open the Google Photos app .
  2. At the bottom, tap Library  Trash .
  3. Touch and hold the photo or video you want to restore.
  4. At the bottom, tap Restore. The photo or video will be back:
    • In your phone’s gallery app
    • In your Google Photos library
    • In any albums it was in
If the item is not in your trash, it may be permanently deleted.
    Important:
    • If you delete a photo or video that’s backed up in Google Photos, it will stay in your trash for 60 days.
    • If you delete an item from your Android device without it being backed up, it will stay in your trash for 60 days.
    • If you see a photo or video in Google Photos that you think you deleted, it might be on a removable memory card. To delete it, use your device’s gallery app.
    Empty your trash
If you see a request to "Delete permanently" when you try to move an item to trash, your trash is full. Your trash can hold 1.5GB.

Important: If you empty your trash, you permanently delete any items in your trash.

Don't see the photo or video?
If a deleted photo or video isn't in trash, you can’t restore it. You won't be able to restore a photo if:
    • You moved it to trash more than 60 days ago.
    • You moved it to trash, then emptied your trash.
    • You permanently deleted it from your trash.
    • You permanently deleted it from your device’s Gallery app, without backing it up first.
When you attempt to manually empty the trash bin in Google Photos, a warning message box appears that explains you are about to permanently delete those pictures and videos. If you choose to proceed anyway, there is nothing that any of the volunteers in this forum can do to help you recover your pictures.

    Question: Backed up photos

Once my photos have been backed up to Google can I delete them from my phone without losing them?

    Robin,

Yes, but you have to do it so that they remain in your account in the cloud. The Photos app behaves like any other gallery app, with the additional capability of uploading to, downloading from, and displaying images in your Google account. So simply deleting a picture using the Google Photos app will indeed delete it from your phone, just the same as if you deleted it using your phone's stock gallery app.

If you want or need it gone from your phone but don't want to actually delete it, you can select it in the Photos app and choose "Delete from device" from the menu. You can do this for one or several pictures.

You'll get a message box telling you that you're about to remove items from your phone. Read the message carefully. It will tell you whether or not you're about to delete items that haven't been backed up yet.

There seems to be no provision to edit date and time of photos using the android app. I know it's possible using web. But there are times when we can't use web or want to stick to app

    Answer:

Currently it is only possible to change the date and/or time from the Google Photos website.

My suggestion is that you use the Send Feedback feature to let developers know that this is a feature that is important to you. If enough users request the same thing, hopefully it will be added sooner to a future app update.

    Answer:

    Addition
Even in the app you need to be connected via wifi or via your mobile network to adjust dates & times because it are actions at Google - not locally on your phone.
And in fact the new dates only are valid within Google Photos - but nothing is changed in the original data of the pictures themselves. Not clear why because that can be very unhandy when downloaded to pc.

      Question: Video clip as ringtone

Trying to use a video clip I took as a ringtone

      Hello Eric Krieger,

You can't use Vedio Clips as ringtone, use  MP3 format which is supported for ringtone.

Let me know how it goes.
      Thanks.

Now- with that out of the way let's deal with Duduzile Mokatse's post in  Google Photos.
Please note that, due to a variety of reasons, not all files can be recovered - but you can try!

      1. Items deleted from your photos.google.com are stored in trash for 60 days and then are Auto-Deleted from trash and can not be recovered.

      2. Items deleted manually from photos.google.com/trash can not be recovered.

      3. Items deleted from your YouTube Channel can not be recovered.

      4. Items deleted from your Gmail are stored in trash for 30 days and then are Auto-Deleted from trash and can not be recovered.

      5. Items manually deleted from Gmail trash can not be recovered.

      6. Items deleted from your Google Drive  will be stored in Drive Trash for 30 days and then be Auto-Deleted from Trash and can not be recovered.

1).If you are using a regular personal account
You will have to contact a Google Drive Specialist who *MAY* be able to restore it. Use this link:

2). If you use a work/student account (G Suite), you should contact your Account Admin as they can restore files up to 25 days after deletion.

      Answer:

It's possible that resetting your Account in the App will fix this problem. You can try the following:
      1. Open Google Photos App on your phone.
      2. Tap the icon with your image (or initial) in upper right of screen.
      3. Tap on  your email address.
      4. Select Use Without an Account
      5. Power off your phone and power it back on.
      6. Repeat Steps 1 - 3 above but now choose to Add an account and sign back into your original account.
      7. Go back to Settings and be sure Backup & Sync is toggled on, then wait an hour or so and see if the backup starts to work in the background.
Let me know if this helps, and if it does please select Recommend below this post so that others can more easily find the answer.
