Are they missing on photos.google.com also - if so, they never have been backupped so unknown reasons.

And just updating Android does not remove pics from phone unless they already were removed by you before - maybe because of too less space.

There is no safe folder in Google Photos unless you have a modern Pixel, but you may use the archive for hiding sensitive pictures from foreground. This archive only is available for pictures in your own stream on the Photos-page, not for pictures in some shared album.

This is a popular, but unsolved problem sofar - of course without any support from Google.

It may be caused by some mysterious setting on your Samsung?

Are you sure that all are saved at Google - check on photos.google.com

If OK, then install the tiny Google Files app in order to delete some fat old movies manually to get more space and then (after restart) check if Free-up will do the rest.

I've recorded a video using my Pixel 3s. From start to stop, there was no errors or notifications, so it seemed like everything ran as it should.

However after I checked in Google Photos, the video was under Unsupported Videos and could not be played. It had the mp4 extension so that points out to that most probably it's corrupted (by what cause? I did no mistake while using this deivce & service)

My question is if Google Pixel produced for me a corrupted video, how does Google fix this?

I know there are softwares out there that take such corrupted videos and fix them for you, but I don't know the Google service that does the same and fixex corrupt videos that their own service produces for the users.

I am having serious issues with backing up photos for many months as well. I have tried these steps but to no luck:

* Restart phone

* Upload manually

* Clear cache

* Clear storage

* Force stop of photos

* Disable app

* Reinstall app

* Remove Google account and add it again

* Switched backup on and off

* Make sure the app is not restricted by battery usage

* Allow Photos to be run in the foreground

* Sacrificed to Cthulhu

Maybe some of the steps above might help you out since that is what solutions I have found online that supposedly is going to help.

And no, I am not having any issues with Internet connection, and yes my phone is up to date.

Oh my oh my -_-

I have found the problem, after many many hours of despair. For some reason, not known, WiFi and Data Usage was disabled for photos. This is how i fixed it.

Go to app info, long press on Photos and press App Info, or Settings -> Apps and notifications -> Photos.

Press Mobile data and Wi-Fi. Make sure Disable Wi-Fi is turned OFF, also Data Usage if you are planning to backup using mobile data.

Problem

My WhatsApp Image folders has images with 0 bytes image files. This cause the Photo app to get stuck

Solution

We need to delete the 0byte image files. Download a Terminal app from the playstore and this are the commands i ran:

cd /storage/emulated/0/Android/media/com.whatsapp/WhatsApp/Media
find . -type f -size 0 -name "*.*" -delete

Next Goto Phone Settings->App Info-> Photos->Clear Cache

Reboot phone.

Tried the above, but WhatsApp's zero-byte files don't delete. I can run the "find" command, no errors, but if I run it again without the "-delete" so it lists all the zero-byte images, they're all still there.

Google Photos really should gracefully handle zero-byte and otherwise corrupt/invalid image files... The fact that another app can stop it working like this is, IMHO, a security issue.

I too had issue with getting stuck on "setting up your photo library" for my Pixel 6 Pro. I didn't think the 0 byte image fix would work for me, as I wasn't trying to back up my WhatsApp folder, but in the end I gave it a go anyway.

Instead of downloading a terminal app I just connected my phone to my PC and used Windows Explorer to navigate to the WhatsApp Image folders. I went in to each of the folders and sub folders (as well as the WhatsApp documents, video and audio folders), sorted by file size and deleted all the 0 byte files manually.

It worked - backup finally kicked in.

There isn't a way to only show the image strictly on the home page, with nothing on the second screens (whether or not you use it.)

However, when you chose a photo to use as wallpaper you should have the option to drag left or right so that the more important part of the image sits on the home page, or pinch or zoom to adjust the view as needed.

Regardless, the image will bleed to the second page of the screen.

You can make a feature request via the app to offer more wallpaper options (for example, an option to duplicate the image, rather than stretch it) on subsequent screens.
