It even included how many views and although free numbers were impressive.  This is NOT something I ever willingly agreed to and in fact I was under the impression that I had gone to extra lengths to make sure that they were not made public I need to stop this immediately all of them being shared none of them should have been shared how do I do this especially with the timeline give me location to where I am photos that I never wanted public and I actually have what's called an injunction against somebody here in Brevard County Florida who's been stalking me and now I kind of know why or how they been finding me it's like a restraining order if you can please somebody please just tell me how to get to mediately stop this I'd greatly appreciate it I got to call my lawyers to explain to them what's going on I want to stop it I don't want to place blame I just want to STOP IT NOW....NOW I SEE HOW THET HAVE BEEN EVERYWHERE I AM BUT ALSO IT EXPLAINS ALL THE PSYCHO SEXUALLY EXPLICIT FRIEND REQUESTS I AM GETTUNG FROM AROUND THE WORLD!!! Photos stored in Google Photos are never public. If you ever share images in Google Maps of a location those are public, but there is no time info on them. In Google Photos itself they are not ever public, nor is there any view count on photos in Google Photos. Where are you seeing these public photos and view counts?

The only way to reduce a video size in Google Photos is to trim the length. There are 3rd party apps/websites you can use which can compress, resize, or split the video into multiple smaller videos. Alternately, you can share it via a Google Photos album in which case the size won't matter.

I'm uploading .CR3 photos to Google Photos via web upload. I've confirmed that the photos do have the GPS location data via Apple Preview before uploading. However, once uploaded the files only show the 'estimated location' rather than reading the location data from the photo files themselves. 

I assumed that the data was somehow being stripped upon upload. However, I downloaded one of the uploaded pics, and the location data was still there when I opened the file via Apple Preview. 

Any idea what's going on?

Probably your phone has compressed them to heic files to safe local space and to my experience on my Samsung, such heic-files have too much contrast. 
So your problem is not caused by Google Photos, but by the optimized storage function on your phone. 
What do you see on photos.google.com in Safari?

There is only not a download option if the photo is already on your device. Do you want to move the photo from internal storage to an SD card? You could do this on the Library tab in Google Photos, under Device Folders. Or a file manager app such as Google Files may be a better option for that.

However, once a user deletes something permanently despite a warning message or allows the content to time out in the bin, Google doesn't maintain any backup. 
There is no way to get back the content through Google Photos.

and run a scan for anything to recover.

Did you ever see the photos in another location, such as on the photos.google.com website or the app on another device?
 
Just because you can see photos by opening the Google Photos app, that doesn't necessarily mean they've been backed up. Google Photos also acts as a viewer for photos that are stored on your phone. 
 
Your profile at the top of the Photos section of the app will tell you the status of your backup. Unfortunately it does not indicate the status of individual photos.
 
This indicates backup is pending (recent photos not yet backed up). The arrow will be gray if it's waiting for wifi
 
Dotted line around around profile indicates upload in progress, the line turns solid to indicate progress, then disappears once the upload is completed
 
 
This indicates backup is disabled for this device or account
 
Could these photos also be backed up anywhere else- service provider backup (I know Verizon offers this), Dropbox, OneDrive, etc? I suggest looking in every possible place just in case.

You can trim the video's length, but Google Photos does not have any way to resize a video. Using a nexus 6 phone, I've been trying to delete a device folder thats taking up a massive amount of space in memory. However when I try to select to "delete device folder" option it just closes the drop down window.

I've let it sit for ten minutes after selecting that option hoping that maybe it just needed time to process, but nothing on the screen changed and the phone just went to sleep.

I've also tried selecting them and deleting them in batches but that also fails, the little window pops up for moving them to the trash bin, but when I select that, the window closes and then the phone proceeds to do nothing again. 

I'd very much like to avoid having to factory reset my phone just to delete one folder but its taking up a lot of room.

Any help would be much appreciated, thanks.

Hi, so I'm trying to help out my wife in clearing out storage on her iPhone (I'm an android user). She has a a large amount of photos and media on her iPhone Messages app, but is hesitant to delete it because there are years worth of photos that are not backed up to Google Photos (where we have established our main photo archive on a family account).

As an android user, I am able to set Google Photos to automatically back up all photos on a given messaging app, e.g., Facebook Messenger. To enable this, I simply open Google Photos, go to Library > Photos on Device > select the folder for the desired Messaging app, and then at the top of the screen there is a toggle switch to turn on 'Backup and Sync' for all photos in that messaging app folder. Pretty simple. It follows the instructions found here: https://support.google.com/photos/answer/9905205?hl=en

However, when I try to do this on my wife's iPhone, there is no 'Photos on Device' section under the Library tab within Google Photos. I've updated to the latest Google Photos version on the Apple Store (v5.50) and its still not there. I've fished through all the settings on the iOS version of Google Photos, and the ability to back up messaging apps just doesn't seem to be there. Am I missing something?

Absent a solution, I think her only option is to either manually go through every Messages conversation on her iPhone and manually save/download all the photos onto her phone (so that Google Photos will then back them up), or just expand the storage on her iCloud account and back up the Messenger photos that way.

Unfortunately the iOS app does not have device folders, only the one camera roll. Unless there are settings in the messaging apps to automatically Save to camera roll it looks like manual is the only option.
