"Free up space" should delete photos from the device, only when they are uploaded to Google Photos. In the Google Photos app you should now see the cloud copy instead of the deleted device copy. The deleted photos will no longer be seen in other apps like the Gallery, but only in Google Photos.

In the Google Photos search box try entering the file extension of the raw file format of the images, for example enter dng for photos in .dng (Digital Negative) raw format.

There's unfortunately no direct way of filtering the photos by highest resolution. As a workaround you may review the list of the largest photos and videos here https://photos.google.com/quotamanagement/large which correlates with the resolution.

However when I delete a photo from Google Photos it automatically deletes the photo from the gallery in my iPhone. I couldn't find a way just to delete photos in my Google account. I think it just forces me to buy more storage. what I don't want to pay for something I don't even want it in the first place. I don't want to back up my photos I just want to keep them in my phone. The safest way to delete from Google Photos is to delete the Google Photos app and delete the photos at https://photos.google.com/

The camera roll will not be affected and Google Photos can be reinstalled after deleting the photos.

Backup should be left switched off otherwise it will re-upload the contents of the camera roll.

If it deleted from Google Photos it means you never backed up the photo and it wasn't at the backup location - https://photos.google.com/

In this case there was no trash involved and you deleted the only copy which is now lost forever unless you can get professional help or know how to use a disk recovery app. Even then, it's not guaranteed.

iOS will kill Google Photos if it sits idle in the background for too long, I would recommend being sure you are opening the app periodically to ensure it remains an "active" app and photos can continue uploading

If you are sharing a complete video via text, the video may be being compressed and alter the performance playback.

To share a video via text with Google Photos, the best way is with a link. After creating and saving the video:

Open Google Photos
Tap and hold the video to select it, so that blue check mark appears
Select the < share icon in the upper menu area
Select Create link
Select the Messages app
Select a conversation or creat a New message as needed
Share the link via message

See if that improve the performance of the video playback.

If not, double check the video and verify it is not a Time Lapse type video that plays at fast speed. Or see if the recipient can download the file and play offline to see if the performance improves.

Good morning. There's no way you can tell who has viewed the pictures you shared.

The only exception to this - kind of - is when you add new pictures to a shared album. After you add pictures to a shared album, you'll get a notification telling you when someone has viewed those pictures. But, that's just a one-time notification and you won't get any follow-up notifications when they view those same pictures again.

Yes. On your phone, you'll get a notification that says something like "Greg Gambone viewed the photos you shared to Bahamas Vacation" the first time I look at the album. You'll also get that type of notification when I view any new pictures that you add to the album.

As far as I know, that notification is triggered immediately. I've tested this and had a family member view pictures in a shared album, and the notification popped up on my phone within a few seconds.

ANYONE having the link can view your album
Anyone having the link can share it with others. You will never know.
You ONLY get notifications after a user JOINED the album. No one is obliged to join.

So basically you loose control when you share, but honestly: that is always the case. Even when you (like in Drive) share only with specific people, they can always find ways to share further (download, screenshots, ...). Share only with people you trust, and do not share sensitive stuff.

When you share a normal album (or directly create a "Shared album") it should appear both in Sharing and Albums.
When you select a number of photos and share them, there will be no album created in Albums, but only in "Sharing" under "Other shared links". You can open this album, via 3-dots edit it (for example give it a title), and also select "Show in albums".

If auto backup was turned on in the Google Photos app prior to the phone getting stolen you might be able to access the photos by visiting the https://photos.google.com website and signing in with all your Google accounts if you have more than one. Also, if you synchronized your Google contacts they should be available at https://contacts.google.com

In addition I recommend that you try to locate the stolen phone with Android's Find My Device tool https://www.google.com/android/find

This seems to be a recurring failure of Google, and I can see they are not responding to any of the above questions either.

I have failed to receive an answer from anyone at google as to why this has happened, so far I have been waiting for 2 months. Shame that google cannot exhibit any form of human decency by responding to people trying to retrieve many years of memories or by providing any sort of real solution.

I've lost 3 years of photos as a result.
