I have changed to a google pixel 4a phone I understood I had unlimited storage of photos yet I have now been told my storage is 93%full and to manage/buy space 90% is my photos what can I do?

Answer:

Hello charlotte hannon,

Pixel 4a has unlimited storage on Google photos at high quality. Photos uploaded from Google Pixel 4a at high quality don't count towards your storage.

If you upload photos upload on original quality it will count towards your google account storage.

  1. On your Android phone or tablet, open the Google Photos app .
  2. Sign in to your Google Account.
  3. At the top right, tap your account profile photo or initial.
  4. Select Photos settings   Back up & sync  Upload size.
  5. Select an upload size to high quality.

Let me know how it goes.
Thanks.

Hi there,

I am attempting to add all photos from a shared album into my "Photos tab". On the iOS app, I visited the shared album, and hit the "Save photos" button. I then get a toast saying the photos have been saved. However, when I visit the "Photos" tab, I cannot see any of the photos I attempted to save from the shared album. Interestedly, if I go to the website, I am able to see the photos from the shared album populate inside of the "Photos" tab.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Jamie

edit: I tried the Android app on another phone and the photos do appear, so it seems to be specifically an iOS issue.

Answer:

Hello Jamie,

Welcome to the Google Photos Community.

The only thing I can suggest is to delete the Google Photos app (no camera roll photos will be affected) then power down/power up the mobile and reinstall the app.

This should rebuild the local view to match the web master.

Regards,
Peter

Answer:

Sorry it's a bit hit and miss, but Google don't provide individual user support so apart from suggesting that you leave feedback for the devs there isn't much we can do.

You could try adding to a regular album on the web to see if that shakes things up.

Question: Parminetli delete photos recovery please

Parminetli delete photos recovery

Hello edigathirupal goud,

Please review the following information in case there are any options you haven't yet tried.

1. Check your online account - photos.google.com
If your photos were successfully uploaded to your online Google Photos account they may be available there. Try visiting photos.google.com and searching for them. If you have more than on
2. Check the trash - photos.google.com/trash
Once you delete photos from your Google Photos account, they're moved to Trash for the next 60 days. If you deleted them by mistake you can always restore them from the Trash folder within those 60 days. Here's the link explaining how to recover them from Trash. If you have more than one Google account, check the trash for all of them.

If you accessed the Trash and manually sent the photos for permanent deletion, or if the 60 days expired, there is no way to recover them from Google Photos

3. Review other options
  • if you previously used Picasa, visit picasaweb.google.com and search for your photos.
  • have you made any backups of the photos on your phone, camera, computer, or elsewhere?
  • there is a small chance that you can restore the photos using a recover deleted photos app (Android). I haven't used them myself so have no specific recommendations. There may well be more app options if you visit the appropriate app store and try other search terms. I don't see any similar apps on the iOS store, but you could check yourself.
  • you can contact the Google Drive support team to see if any deleted files may be recovered. Use the Google Drive contact form, click Missing or deleted files, select a contact option, and be sure to tell them you permanently deleted files in Google Drive.
  • If you ever shared the photos with anyone else, it's possible they may have a copy they could share back or send to you.
 Thanks.

Question: How do I move my pictures from my camera to my SD card ?

I want to move photos from camera to my SD card

Hi, Karen 7051

Welcome to Google Photos Community Support Forum & thanks for your query.

Although there are multiple ways to transfer the content from the internal memory of the phone to an SD card, doing so through Google Photos allows retaining the backup and sync aspect.
Please follow the steps below to achieve the transfer.
  • Open Google Photos.
  • Tab Library.
  • Tap the desired folder under Photos on the device like Camera, Screenshots etc.
  • Select photos by long pressing then tap others after the tick confirms the first selection
  • You can also long-press and stroke down while still in a pressed condition, to select a batch.
  • Next, tap the 3 dot menu top right.
  • Tap Move to folder.
  • Tap New SD folder, type a folder name then tap Create.
Note that if the photos are backed up to Google Photos this will not remove them from the Photos, and even if the new folder is not selected for Backup & sync any contents will still be deleted if you delete that using the Google Photos app.

Question: How to access screenshots from January,2021

If these were backed up to Google Photos they would be in the same place as all your photos. The screenshots folder is not usually backed up by default though, so you would have needed to have either manually backed up the photos or manually turned on sync for that folder on most devices.

Hi Pat,

So sorry to hear about the photo book issue.
  1. On your Android phone or tablet, open the Google Photos app.
  2. Sign in to your Google Account.
  3. At the top left, tap Print store .
  4. Under "Past orders," select the photo book you want to contact us about.
  5. On the details page, tap Contact support here.
If this link is not available, find your confirmation email, or receipt from your package. Another "Contact us" link is available there.

Unfortunately, we do not have a way on the forum to discover who, if anyone, received your photos in their book. First, I would not assume that someone else got your photos, as the issue could be simply related to your book only, but it is a fair question that should be asked via the help steps mentioned above.

Best wishes for successful resolution,

Joe

I created a shared album for people to upload photos of a deceased relative for the memorial service.  When someone tries uploading a photo they cropped and rotated from iOS, the web version of the shared album on my account shows the pre-edited photo.  Since it's a shared album, and another user uploaded it, I can't edit it.  I also shouldn't have to do this because they already did the editing before it was added!

Answer:

I do'nt know about iOS, but the problem sounds similar to what happens when you first edit in Picasa3 and then upload. Picasa3 (and Lightroom and probably iOS) does not really edit the photo, but saves the changes in a file and applies them on the fly when you view the photos. In order to upload edited copies they may have to save or export edited copies first.

You can edit the photos when you:
  • Add them to your library
  • Edit
  • Delete the original from the shared album
  • Add the edited copy to the album
Problems with that approach are:
  • You have to do the job, which is not what you want
  • Your name will appear on the edited photos

I want to only have Google Photos active on my tablet. Samsung Gallery and Cloud are making changes. I don't want to lose anything synced with Samsung Gallery. For instance, if a photo is deleted in Samsung, it also gets deleted in Google Photos. I back everything up to Google. But now, Samsung is going to delete all photos from their cloud. They want me to back up everything to One Drive but I only want to use one system. Using both Google and another system is too confusing. I only want one photo app and one organizing system. Even trying to explain it is confusing. Hope you can help. Thank you.

Answer:

Hello Anna,

Welcome to the Google Photos Community.

Samsung Gallery is built in and cannot be changed, it is Samsung Cloud which is being stopped and you don't have to use it. We can't advise on specifics but this video should help in turning the cloud off and once that is done you will be safe just using Goggle Photos and ignoring Samsung Gallery.

If your delete action is recent, you will find all the items in the bin. The bin icon  becomes visible in the library view. Tap that & recover everything available in the bin.

However, if your delete action has already crossed sixty days, or you have emptied the bin inadvertently, there is no way to recover anything through Google Photos.

Hi Elias, thanks for posting. This is strange! A couple of suggestions..

First, can you please confirm you are running the latest version of the Photos app? (5.49.0.381968315) If not, please update the app and try again.

Second, you can try to clear the cache of the Photos app
  1. Go to the 'Settings' app of your device.
  2. Open the 'Apps' menu. ...
  3. Scroll the list until you find 'Photos'.
  4. Enter the 'Photos' to enter the information screen.
  5. Choose the 'Storage' menu under the 'Usage' section.
  6. Tap 'Clear data' or 'Manage Space' to clear data.
Also, can you please confirm you do not have any "battery saver" options on? You can also reboot your device if that has not been done recently. Finally, are you connected to a Wi-Fi network when attempting the upload?

Answer:

Hi Charlie

I'm running (5.49.0.384259279) an even newer version than (5.49.0.381968315)

What exactly will happen if I clear the cache of the Photos app?
Will that delete all the photos that have been uploaded?
Will that delete the photos on my phone that I'm trying to upload?
What is the data that will be deleted and where from?

Where can I check to confirm that I do not have any "battery saver" options on?
Optimize battery usage was on for Photos I set it to off.
Is that the battery saver option you were referring to?

I've already tried rebooting my device, nothing changed.

Finally, of course I'm connected to a Wi-Fi network when attempting the upload.

Thanks fort your support

I don't know what else to do.

I tried and successfully uploadied a photo using my browser to Google Photos Web.

What can I do????

Pls help. I'm still stuck with this frustrating "Getting ready to backup" message.

Pleeeease help.

Thanks

Answer:

Hi Elias,

I'm still fairly stumped here.

  1. The only other check I would ask is to ensure the pictures you are attempting to upload are supported by Google Photos.
  • File sizes that can be backed up.  Your files won't be backed up if they are:
    • Photos larger than 200 MB or 150 MP
    • Videos larger than 10 GB.
    • Items smaller than 256 x 256.
  • File types that can be backed up.
    • Photos: .jpg, .heic, .png, .webp, .gif, and some RAW files.
    • Live photos can be backed up if you use the Google Photos app on your iPhone or iPad.
    • Videos: .mpg, .mod, .mmv, .tod, .wmv, .asf, .avi, .divx, .mov, .m4v, .3gp, .3g2, .mp4, .m2t, .m2ts, .mts, and .mkv files.
If you try to back up a file type not listed here, it may not work with Google Photos.

  1. Can you also let us know what the brand/model of your phone is?
  2. Did the phone you are attempting to upload from take any/all of the pictures?

Answer:

Hi

Thx for your suggestions.
I cut all photos that were being uploaded from their original phone folder and pasted them in another newly created phone folder.
Google Photos added them to the pictures to be uploaded, thus duplicating all picture to be uploaded.
I then erased all initial photos from Google Photos to be uploaded (while of course checking that they had the old phone folder path) keeping only the new pictures from the new folder.
Google photos then successfully uploaded them.
I still do not understand why the prices was frozen and why this move of pictures from one folder to another and the erasing of the old photos unfroze the process.
Anyway my problem is now solved and Google photos is backing up correctly.
Thanks to all for all their support and guidance.

Hi Nancy, thanks for posting.

If you are using Gmail for your email, this functionality if built in. Clicking on the picture after inserting will allow you to resize. If not using GMail, there is not a way to alter the size of the photo natively within Google Photos outside of cropping the image to be smaller.

Hi there,
I am trying to transfer all of my photos on one google account to another account, so I can then delete the old account.  In order to do this I have enabled partner sharing between the accounts and saved all the photos to the library of my new account.  However, I have now disabled partner sharing and I am unsure if the transfer has worked.  All my photos now appear on the new account as intended but Google is saying I only have 11GB of photos storage used while the old account has almost 200GB.  This has left me a little worried as I am unsure whether my photos are actually saved on my new account or whether they'll still dissappear from this new one if I delete the old account.
Hope this makes sense and any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Claire.

Answer:

Hi Claire, thanks for posting.

First - how long ago did you complete the transfer? There can be a lag (multiple days) in the display of storage space when mass changes to your photos library takes place.

Second - with that many photos, can you confirm you have enough storage on your new account?

You can also spot check various points in time between the two libraries which may help validate if your procedure worked.

Hi.  We did the transfer 3 or 4 days ago.  It said to allow up to 48 hours, which is why we waited until now to ask.  We have the same amount of storage on both accounts (200gb).  On the old account it says we have used about 185gb, but the new one says just 11gb has been used, which is why I'm worried the pics aren't being backed up properly to the new account.  We had the new account set to save all photos from the partner account, but am really worried about deleting the old account & loosing 1000s of pics.  We have tested it by deleting the odd photo from the old account & some remain in the new account, but some don't.  I assume that if it has worked properly the new account should use a similar amount of storage to the old one?

Answer:

Thanks for the information. Out of curiosity - are both accounts sharing the same 200GB of storage or did you purchase 200GB of storage for each account?

Answer:

Thanks Claire - One other thing to confirm. On the old account, can you confirm how much of the 200GB used is for Google Photos? This will ensure an apples to apples comparison between the old and new account.

If you have access to a computer, I recommend using Google Takeout (https://support.google.com/accounts/answer/3024190?hl=en) to download all of the pictures from the original account and then upload from the same computer into the Google Photos library for the new account. With the number of photos you are working with, there will be no way to fully determine all of them are migrating appropriately to the new account. In theory, your approach should work but the spirit of the partner sharing is not necessarily to move photos in mass between accounts. You could also use the Google Download tool (https://www.google.com/drive/download/) to accomplish this as well with a computer.

I'm sorry this isn't a clean answer, but my priority right now is ensuring you have your photos and that is where the options above come into play.

Answer:

Hi, pretty much all the storage is google photos.  Only 0.3 gb is for Google drive.  Any email storage is on the new account as that is my correct email & why we want to move the pictures.  I don't have a computer, so can't do that.  It seems odd that Google don't have an easy procedure / tutorial for moving photo libraries between accounts.  There must be all sorts of reasons & circumstances why people would need to do this.

I have been deleting pics from my Samsung galley to create space however it has been deleting from m…

Hello Nehali,

Deleting from the Gallery (not the Google Photos app) should not delete the Google Photos copy .  If the copy you see in the app also disappears then it usually means that the photo is not backed up to Google Photos. Photos actually IN Google Photos can only be seen at the Google Photos Backup location - Tap here

Please check the help article at Back up photos & videos - Android - Tap here to make sure Backup is enabled.

The safest way to clear device storage is to use Free up space by tapping your account icon top right to choose that option. The app will only remove photos after checking if they are backed up first.

Note that the photos will no longer be available to view in your gallery and might not be available to choose from Social media apps. WhatsApp currently has access, Facebook currently does not. Unsure about others, but still possible to share to apps from inside Google Photos

Photos can also be deleted by selecting them and the to use the 3 dot option to Delete from the device. This will also give a warning if the photo is not backed up.

Regards,

Peter
