You can add a person through the following steps.

Tap to open the photo which contains unidentified faces & then slide up or tap the three dots

If the app had failed to include some faces in that picture, then you will see a prompt "XX faces available to add".

Tap the edit icon at the extreme right edge. (An icon of a pencil

That will show identified faces in square boxes & their thumbnails at the bottom.
Tap on the + sign on each thumbnail.
Then the app will show you all the identified faces till that time.
You can select the right one.

If not, tap the + sign at the top right corner of the screen.
That would create a new grouping altogether.

Once created, the app may take some time to bring all the related pictures to this new grouping.

I do understand the inconvenience as the audio is out of sync in the movie of your Google Photos. Therefore, I recommend trying the steps below in sequence, this may help in fixing the issue:

Make sure your device is up-to-date.
Make sure the App is up-to-date.
Try restarting the App through the following steps:

Go to your App Settings.
Click stop on the afflicted App with the Force Stop button.
Wait a few seconds to make sure the App has stopped processing, and then attempt to re-start it.

Close the background running apps through the following steps:

Go to your App Settings.
Display the Active Apps on your device.
Select the App you wish to close and Force Stop it.
Repeat this step with all active Apps.

Try clearing your App cache through the following steps:

Tap the system Settings tab on the main screen of your device.

m running into issues with several duplicates of photos being created in the app and now synced to the browser version of Google Photos. I am not able to delete one version as I run into issues as my Moto G6 device (Android version 9) uses google photos as it's gallery app and deletes the photos off of the device entirely only really leaving the copy on Google Photos which I don't want for several reasons. Fortunately I backed up the photos before doing anything, but that was the edited version of the photos and not the original as when you edit and save in google photos it actually overwrites to original image in local storage on the device. I didn't realize this until now, so I am not super happy about that either.

I was trying to fix issues with the app constantly crashing which is another major issue leading to me loosing photos and videos at times as the device's photos are so connected to this app, so per a help article on how to potentially fix the issue I tried clearing the cache and data then logging out of my google account. It only gives you the option to "Use without an account" so I set it to that. I tried uninstalling the app, but you can only disable it, so I did that. I then shut down the device and turned it back on. Then I enabled the app and logged back in. Then updated the app as well. It took 2 full days to Backup and Sync the app after that. Then now I have duplicates on both the app and browser version of the program.

I noticed that the duplicates seem to be of images I had edited in some way previously,

One version seems to be under /storage/emulated/0/DCIM/Camera and the other with just the image filename. The one with the filename you can revert the edits on but the other you cannot. I tried deleting either version and it removes the image from the local device storage. If I try to add the photos back via usb to my phone I get an error in the app if I go to edit the photos then.

I also have tried editing photos and saving them and the changes don't seem to save to the local device version of the photos. There also doesn't seem to be a way to force a sync of the photos to local storage or up to google photos to help with any of this.

So far I don't see any duplicates being created with new photos taken, but this is impacting a pretty large amount of photos I have taken and backed up to Google Photos up until now. I am also paying for storage for these photos since I am over the amount that is provided for free.

I could really use some help with this. I have tried several fixes suggested in the Community already. In fact the steps I listed here are some of the steps that were advised to take to fix this issue. I have also seen several others that have run into this issue so the broader impact of this seems pretty large.

I work in support for another software program as my day job so I know a bug when I see it and this really seems like one. This is driving me a bit crazy that I can't seem to be able to fix this.

I have attached screenshots. Is anything else is needed to look into this please let me know.

What we see as duplicates have some differences in file format or metadata.

Additionally, if you have activated Raw + JPEG capture or bracketing in your phone app, that would create duplicates.

The information given is rather clear because it states that the removed pictures can be viewed in the Google-app and shared via the app or downloaded back to device if some are needed for social media, so why is that not good enough for you?

You always can hire more space via Google One, but basically it also is strange that you are using a backup at Google without any knowledge. The most usual reason for having space problems at Google is having chosen original quality in the past and then photos and movies always have counted against your free space of 15 Gb for everyone - together with some usage for Gmail and (maybe) for Drive).

But you can try to get some free space back from Google by pressing the Recover storage button on photos.google.com/settings and then wait a day. Then all files at Google (not on phone) will get compressed to high quality and all files in Photos uploaded before June 1 will not be counted at all.

Then nothing is lost, but you also should change your backup setting into storage saver now. Then you may have enough space for the next year without the need to start paying.

And many can delete many old years of Gmail - that also will create a couple of free GB's

You also can stop using Google backup, but then you become responsible for managing your safety yourself and without a computer that is hardly possible and with a computer it is complex also.

There is no way to get back the content through Google Photos.

When you attempt to manually empty the trash/bin in Google Photos, another warning appears that explains the consequences of permanently deleting those pictures and videos.

The easiest way I have found to accomplish this is to navigate to Google Photos on the web (photos.google.com) and perform your delete functions from there. This will not sync the delete automatically with your Apple Photos library. The alternative, is to turn OFF backup & sync within the Google Photos app and choose which picture you would like to upload to Google Photos manually

There is no native ability within Google Photos to initiate a find/remove duplicates. There are a couple options you can try..

If you log into Google Photos on the web and navigate to https://photos.google.com/search/_tra_ this will show a view of all photos by upload date. This may help identify your duplicates for easier deletion.
There are apps available on the play store which advertise themselves as being able to scan photo libraries to identify and remove duplicates. Buyer beware though.... make sure to thoroughly research the app to ensure it will work as you intend.

Please review the following information in case there are any options you haven't yet tried.

1. Check your online account - photos.google.com

If your photos were successfully uploaded to your online Google Photos account they may be available there. Try visiting photos.google.com and searching for them. If you have more than on

2. Check the trash - photos.google.com/trash

Once you delete photos from your Google Photos account, they're moved to Trash for the next 60 days. If you deleted them by mistake you can always restore them from the Trash folder within those 60 days. Here's the link explaining how to recover them from Trash. If you have more than one Google account, check the trash for all of them.

If you accessed the Trash and manually sent the photos for permanent deletion, or if the 60 days expired, there is no way to recover them from Google Photos.

3. Review other options

if you previously used Picasa, visit picasaweb.google.com and search for your photos.
have you made any backups of the photos on your phone, camera, computer, or elsewhere?
there is a small chance that you can restore the photos using a recover deleted photos app (Android). I haven't used them myself so have no specific recommendations. There may well be more app options if you visit the appropriate app store and try other search terms. I don't see any similar apps on the iOS store, but you could check yourself.
you can contact the Google Drive support team to see if any deleted files may be recovered. Use the Google Drive contact form, click Missing or deleted files, select a contact option, and be sure to tell them you permanently deleted files in Google Drive.
If you ever shared the photos with anyone else, it's possible they may have a copy they could share back or send to you.
