Question: Google Photos crashed after moving DCIM/Camera folder from Internal to SD Card

My phone's internal storage are getting full, so I decided to move all my images on directory "DCIM/Camera" from Internal Storage to external SC Card. But this resulted in Google Photos going into crash after opening the app.

I have cleared Photos' app cache and data, this didn't solve the problem. I also have tried reinstalling the app from Play Store, but then it crashed again soon after initial setup.

Can anyone please help me? (Sorry for bad english)

Answer:

Hello Gottfried,

First eject the SD card then try the following to get Google Photos working again. Then if possible check the SD card on a computer to make sure there is no corruption..
  1. Check the app trash to make sure there are no photos and videos mistakenly deleted
    • Empty the trash
  2. tap the account icon at the top right
  3. tap your email address and select Use without an account
  4. Power down/up or restart the device
  5. sign in again making sure you are using the correct email
  6. check that the Backup & sync settings are correct and using the correct email
  7. wait until getting photos finishes, could take a while
    • Please wait until it completes leaving the app open and plugged in if necessary.
Regards,

Peter

Answer:

Thank you for your suggestion. I have followed every steps but unfortunately it doesn't solve my problem.
The only way to use Photos without crash issue is by removing the SD Card, which is not corrupted

Answer:

Not sure what else to suggest, Google do not provide direct user support. My personal fix would be to Move all photos to a computer then reformat the card. The only problem is that if you need the photos back on the SD card it isn't something easily achieved. Possibly creating a Pictures folder on the card and moving batches back to the SD card into a folder under the Pictures directory. (that's where Google Photos moves photos to on the SD card)

Hello Lotfy Awad,
Welcome to Google Photos Community.

Google photos have been linked to your google account. Your google account comes with 15gb of free storage which is free if your storage is about to then you need to rent the more storage according to your own usage you can take a look at the below link for detailed info.

Hope this helps.

Question: Google photos is taking up storage on my gmail, how do I delete my account and all photos on there

I'm trying to select all the photos uploaded on there to free up storage but it's taking too long

It is MUCH easier to do this from a computer IOS requires you to select each one and then you can click delete to delete all you selected.

Answer:

Of course Google Photos is using space in your Gmail-account - see one.google.com/storage - that's normal.
But you may have taken a wrong decision in the past by chosing original quality - so if press the Recover storage button at photos.google.com/settings to get them reduced to high quality which is good enough for an iPhone and a Macbook. Then everything backupped before June 1 will count zero and you wil have a lot of space back. And change the setting to storage saver quality.
Of cause you can delete inferior photos, but that is normal and should have been done immediately.
Best

PS: you also may delete years of old mail which also will help a lot to get space back.

To unhide a person that you hid before, please follow these steps.

  • Tap the three dots at the top right corner
  • Tap on the menu "Hide & show". Please note this menu works like a toggle. If you tap once, the hidden faces become visible. If you tap a second time, then all hidden persons hide again.

  • Tap on the eye once. Please note, the eye icon also acts as a toggle. Tap once, the person will be unhidden. Tap a second tome & then the eye will reappear hiding the person once again.
  • Once the eye symbol is gone, the thumbnail of the person will become visible again.

Google Photos is for storing, enjoying and sharing personal memories. Google Photos not intended to store or serve media such as photos or videos that aren't personal.
What you are looking for playing a video that was made commercially.
You will have to look for some proprietary video player to do so.

Hi,  Keena Mae Tan

Thanks for your reply

Did you record the video on your phone?
Are you using the default camera app provided by the phone's manufacturer or something else?
Do you see this "DRM protected" message while playing every MP4 file or only this specific one?
Further, did you use some proprietary software to edit that?

Besides, the phone will have a built-in media player. Have you tried viewing the video through that?

Additionally, can you provide the following details of your phone?

Question: My important photo delete for my mistake i want to back my photos plz

Hi Aniket, thanks for posting.

Were the photos recently deleted? If so, you should be able to recover them from the trash within Google Photos
  1. On your Android phone or tablet, open the Google Photos app .
  2. At the bottom, tap Library  Trash .
  3. Touch and hold the photo or video you want to restore.
  4. At the bottom, tap Restore
If a deleted photo or video isn't in trash, you can’t restore it. You won't be able to restore a photo if:
  • You moved it to trash more than 60 days ago.
  • You moved it to trash, then emptied your trash.
  • You permanently deleted it from your trash.
  • You permanently deleted it from your device’s Gallery app, without backing it up first.
On an Android device, there are apps available which claim to be able to "scan" your phone to possibly recover pictures. Use these apps with caution and be sure to thoroughly research before installing on your device.

I hope this helps!

Hi Jen, thanks for posting.

On some Android phones, Google Photos also serves as the default photo-viewer on the device. This means that pictures will still be seen within the Google Photos UI, however they are not backed up to the service. You can verify this by opening any picture, if you see a cloud icon with an "up" arrow this means this picture is not backed up to Google Photos.

Question: I accidentally deleted my photos permanently wanna restore them back

Nothing

Hi Shabbir,

I’m sorry, it’s not possible to recover photos permanently deleted from the Google Photos Trash. However, you may install to your Android device a deleted photo recovery app https://play.google.com/store/search?q=recover%20deleted%20photos&c=apps and run a scan for anything to recover.

In addition I recommend that you contact the Google Drive support team to see if any deleted files may be recovered. Just open the Google Drive https://support.google.com/drive/?hl=en&authuser=0#topic=14940&contact=1 contact form, click Missing or deleted files, select a contact option, and be sure to tell them you permanently deleted files in Google Drive.

Hi Monica, thanks for posting.

There is no native ability within Google Photos to initiate a find/remove duplicates. There are a couple options you can try..
  1. If you log into Google Photos on the web and navigate to https://photos.google.com/search/_tra_ this will show a view of all photos by upload date. This may help identify your duplicates for easier deletion.
  2. There are apps available on the play store which advertise themselves as being able to scan photo libraries to identify and remove duplicates. Buyer beware though.... make sure to thoroughly research the app to ensure it will work as you intend.

Simply, I had bookmarked the URL for the archived Picasa albums. (I didn't archive them; I presume Google did). They were all there as recently as last month. I merely looked at photos, didn't delete anything. Would Google delete them? I am very upset! One album was my last pictures of my mother before she died.

Hi Elizabeth,

I'm sorry for your precious memories.

I recommend that you look for the missing photos here. It's important to sign in with all your Google accounts if you have more than one:

Answer:

If it really have been normal albums on Picasaweb (that is something different then having folders in Picasa on some old computer), they still should be found on https://get.google.com/albumarchive when you are able to log-in with the Picasa-account used in those years and that account often is forgotten.

What is deleted by Google on April 1 were albums created in your Google+ page (if you have had such a page), because Google+ is closed for normal accounts and that was already announced at Christmas - but perhaps you did not receive that message in your personal mail.
If this sounds familiar to you, you may try to recover some data via the G+ section on https://takeout.google.com/settings/takeout when being logged-in for that account. But I am not sure if this option is available for professional accounts only.

Sorry, but this a very confusing problem due to all changes at Google since the closure of Picasa & Picasaweb. So hard to say good luck.

Answer:

Yes, they were normal albums, not in folders nor stored on a hard drive. I don't even know if I had a Google account when I opened it. I think I opened it with my Yahoo address. What remains are recent individual pictures. What had been so prized was I had uploaded all the photos on my three different cameras (three different albums hence). I tried all the links you both so graciously provided and they are definitely gone. Would Google delete them? Because they were there recently and I certainly didn't delete them!

Answer:

Sorry for the delayed reply - there is a night between us :-)
In the past many created a Google-account by using their personal mailadress (in your case at Yahoo) together with phantasy password (often forgotten).
But what you tell about 3 camera's and 3 albums is strange, because on Picasaweb you had no stream per camera, because normaly you needed to create an album (say Paris 2012) and that was filled with pictures from several camera's and another album (say New York 2013) on the same way, etc. etc.
So if you still are able to log-in to https://get.google.com/albumarchive with that Google / Yahoo account, you would see such albums immediately when you scroll down and there has been no change at Google that deletes such normal albums.
So I am a bit afraid that it were no normal albums at all and therefore I am afraid also that you can't be helped.
You also may look under the Autobackup-cover and scroll down endlessly to find old dates just to check if the dayfolders there still contain pictures from these (old) cameras?

Answer:

Elizabeth, in your original post you said you have a bookmark to the URL of the photos. Does the URL start with picasaweb.google.com ?

You later wrote "They were all there as recently as last month". What website were the photos on?

You also wrote "What remains are recent individual pictures". Where are those remaining individual pictures? Are these some of the missing pictures?

Not able to delete photos from SD card for space in Google photos

There is a special option to allow deleting in the settings under your profile in the Google Photos app.
You should be aware that both deleting local files and their copies at Google is very wrong unless it are inferior pictures . But lack on space at Google should not be solved that way.
And don't empty the trash immediately, because what is is trash does not count for Google. Then you are able to recover some within 60 days,

Hi Santhosh, thanks for posting.

In short, if you permanently deleted photos, it is not possible to get them back.

Hello again,

In your original post, you cited 60 days so I had thought that was the duration you meant. If the photo was recently deleted within 60 days, you can recover it from your trash within Google Photos
  1. On your Android phone or tablet, open the Google Photos app .
  2. At the bottom, tap Library  Trash .
  3. Touch and hold the photo or video you want to restore.
  4. At the bottom, tap Restore.
I hope this helps.

Hello,

For Google Photos, see this about recovering photos & videos. Note that photos/videos permanently deleted from Google Photos Trash are not recoverable.

Question: Face grouping and remove results are not working correctly

Face grouping seems to have had a stroke and is now categorising everything as faces. Flowers, ducks, trains, horses, houses, blurry pictures of my thumb. You name it, it thinks it's a person - but only an existing person, it's not creating new faces. It's also badly miscategorising real faces and grouping people who don't look remotely similar together (different age, gender, hair colour)

On top of that, remove results isn't working - after selecting remove results and refreshing the faces re-appear.

This is happening on w10 chrome and Android - Samsung A41.

Has anyone else experienced this? It's only got worse in the last 2-3 weeks.

Question: Photo backup nhi ho rha hai

Image are not backup

Hi, Durgesh Patel 1453

Welcome to Google Photos Community Support Forum & thanks for your query.

However, I find many users regard "Backup" implies getting back the deleted pictures.
Are you using the term in the same context?
Or, the uploading of photos to the cloud is stuck?
Can you clarify?

However, can you clarify whether you can't access your email account?
Or are you not finding photos in that account?
