Question: Will my data be safe here??will you share it if someone asks??

Even if the authority asks for my data, do you give it to them without my permission??

Hi, Ashmeet Singh Doad

Welcome to Google Photos Community Support Forum & thanks for your post.

However, in this peer support forum, volunteers answer the queries.
The volunteers are users of Google Maps like anyone & do not have any special privileges to know about the internal policies at Google.
Google employees or representatives aren't reading the posts usually.

Nevertheless, if you are sceptical about the privacy of your data, it would be prudent to stop using the feature & create multiple local backups on external HDD or USB storage devices.

I suggest you look into the documentation provided by your phone's manufacturer.

Question: Myrecavery photo

Googal photos

Hi Rahul,

Welcome to the Google Photos Help Forum.

Could you please confirm what exactly are you referring to when you say recovery photo

Are you trying to recover the photos from your Google Photos? If yes, please check if the photos are present in the Trash of Google Photos and restore them through the below steps:
  • On your Android phone or tablet, open the Google Photos app .
  • At the top left, tap Menu.
  • Click on Trash.
  • Touch and hold the photo or video you want to recover.
  • At the bottom, tap Restore. The photo or video will be back:
    • In your phone.
    • Into the "Photos" section of the app.
    • Into any albums it was in.
But if you've already deleted the photos from the Trash from your Google Photos, there is no other way to restorethem.

That being said, if you would like to see this feature implemented in the future, I recommend leaving feedback about it through the following steps:
  • Open Google Photos.
  • Click on Menu.
  • Select Send feedback.
  • Click on Send.
The product team reviews the feedback regularly and uses it to better improve the product overtime.

Let me know if you have any other questions.

Best,
Emma

Hi, User 7903447526914516312

Welcome to Google Photos Community Support Forum & thanks for your post.

The free up option removes the originals of pics from the phone.
That creates space to capture new photos.
Restoring the backed up pictures would be defeating the whole purpose of the free up space exercise.

To bring back the pics to your phone's gallery either, you can download photos one by one.
Regrettably, there is no option to download the photos in bulk.

Alternatively, you can install the Google One app. There is a one time option to restore up to two hundred most recent photos to the device.
However, that will not restore the local folder structure.
There is no requirement to join Google One. The option is available to everyone.
However, the method may not be helpful to recover something when the count is more than two hundred.

Or, you can arrange for a bulk download by visiting the link https://takeout.google.com/.
Select the Google Photos app for data download.
Once the file is ready, you will get an email. Access that & unzip all the attachments into your phone's gallery. However, you have to ensure your phone has free space more than the size of the downloaded zip file.

That will bring everything to your phone.

Question: recover my photos

If you want to get a deleted item back, check your trash to see if you can get it back. If your photo or video has already been backed up and you deleted it, it will remain in your Trash for 60 days.
  1. On your computer, go to the trash.
  2. Place your cursor over the photo or video you want to restore, then click Done Done.
  3. At the top right, click Restore Restore. That photo or video will be restored to your Google Photos library and added back into any albums it was in.
Don't see the photo or video? If a deleted photo or video isn't in trash, you can’t restore it. You won't be able to restore a photo if:
  • You moved it to trash more than 60 days ago.
  • You moved it to trash, then emptied your trash.
  • You permanently deleted it from your trash.
  • You permanently deleted it from your device’s Gallery app, without backing it up first.

Question: Green dot in photos, why? How to turn off?

Many of the pictures I take with my samsung s21 have a green dot saved in them. How do I turn off so…

That does not sound like a Google Photos issue.
What comes to my mind is "lens flare" which does appear when there is a bright object in the image.
I also read "A green dot will appear in the upper-right corner of the screen when any app is using the camera or microphone so you can see if an app is recording you without your consent.14 sep. 2021" but that dot should not appear in the actual photo.

I tried to free up backed up pictures but I can't.

Hi Kuriyama,

You probably don't want to "Delete" images which have been backed up, but rather "Free up space" from the 3 line menu.

Using the Garbage Can will delete images on your phone and in the cloud.  Be very careful.  Don't use the Garbage Can unless you want to delete the images everywhere forever.

Best regards, Dougsap (volunteer Google Photos fan)

I suggest not to try sending a video as an attachment.
Share the link through Google photos instead.

Question: I want restore my delete photo

Permanent delete my file

Deleted Photos are stored in Trash for up to 60 days, if you delete Photos again from trash, that's two times deletion.

Unfortunately, once Photos are deleted from trash there is no way to retrieve them back :(

For a few years now I have been uploading very old photos (pre GPS)  and have been able to put the location onto the photos both typing and map.  As of this week however all my photos taken at my home address have now changed to Unknown Location - however the map is still correct.   Can I fix this?

Answer:

Hi Norma Hatlelid,

Google Photos use the location from photo's meta info(Exif data).
There is a change that either your device or the software you use to edit may have changed this meta, that's why your photos' location is showing somewhere.

To add the location data for Images:
  • On your computer, open https://photos.google.com.
  • Select the images you want to add/edit the location info.
  • Click on three dot icon located at right-top side
  • Select "Edit location"
  • Type and select the location from the popup

To add the location data for albums:
  • On your computer, open photos.google.com.
  • Open the album.
  • At the top right, click More > Edit album.
  • Click Location .
  • Decide if you want:
    • Location: The name of one location.
    • Map: A map showing where you traveled.
    • All suggested locations: Locations and maps suggested by Google Photos.
  • Click Done.
  • To move a location within the album, click More  > Edit album > drag it to the photo it belongs > click Done .

Answer:

Maybe I did not explain it properly.  I am doing as you request in your response.  I go to edit location, type in the address and select it from the drop down menu.  The image comes up with the correct location however the location box says "Unknown location".  Up until the last week my photos had the address in this box but they have now all been wiped clean to "Unknown Location".

Answer:

Norma Hatlelid,

Maybe that location name is "Unknown location". For Example: I have a location named "Something Different" and "Unknown location".

Are you getting same "Unknown location\

Answer:

I know this is a little old, but this is almost what I'm looking for. Do you know if there's a way to update a photo's location if it isn't part of an album?

Answer:

As additional feedback on this, it'd be nice to be able to supply the actual lat/long coordinates rather than just trying to find the nearest named place for some photos.
