Welcome to the Google Photos Support Community.

Could you please elaborate the issue or your query for me to assist you better? Are you referring to backing up your photos/videos from your Android device to Google Photos? If yes, to Backup your photos/video, before you start, make sure you're signed in. 

1. On your Android phone or tablet, open the Google Photos app .
2. Sign in to your Google Account.
3. At the top, tap Menu .
4. Select Settings  Back up & sync.
5. Tap "Back up & sync" on or off.

Things to keep in mind about this setting:

• Changing backup settings will affect all apps that use Back up & sync, such as Google Drive.
• If you have Back up & sync on, deleting the Google Photos app from your device will not turn it off. To turn off Back up & sync, follow the instructions above.

Here's a useful help article to know about backing up photos and videos to Google Photos.

So I had to delete all of the photos I backed up.

This is very unfortunate for 2 reasons:

• You can download (selected) photos back to your device, but they will not automatically go to the folder where they come from. 
• When you uploaded in the former "High Quality" or the present "Storage saver" quality, the originals will be lost. 

Google has been warned that there are many similar complaints, but it still happens ....
