Having photos on your device and not in Google Photos is an unstable situation which can only be managed manually with Backup & sync turned off.

1. Check the app trash to make sure there are no photos and videos mistakenly deleted
   • Empty the trash
2. tap the account icon at the top right
3. tap your email address and select Use without an account 
4. Power down/up or restart the device
5. Go to photos.google.com and delete the photos
6. sign in again making sure you are using the correct email
7. Do not enable Backup & sync
8. wait until getting photos finishes, could take a while
   • Please wait until it completes leaving the app open and plugged in if necessary.
9. For future uploads, open the photos on the Photos tab and tap the Upload cloud icon at the top right.

You are now vulnerable to losing your phone and any photos only on the device will also be lost forever.

In that case, if I stop subscription, I will be able to access my data, but wont be able to add data or get mails. Hi, Google Photos always wants to group my daughter and son's faces together as the same person, and I want to be able to "retrain" it.  My daughter is my first born, and it groups all of my son's photos under her face.  I've tried to go in and untag some photos of my son that were incorrectly associated with my daughter and associate it with my son, but its way too much work to do them all just doing a few doesn't seem to retrain the facial recognition.

Is there anything I can do to fix this issue? I would be fine with resetting the facial recognition with them both if there is an option for that (eg, unnamed faces that I'll then go in and merge/name them)

I forgot to mention; my wife and I share our libraries and sync picture between each other, and her library correctly separates my son's and daughter's faces.  So it's not like our kids' faces look that much alike where it'd fool the facial recognition.

I guess for anyone who comes across this post, I was able to fix this by going into google photo settings and turning off "face grouping" and turning it back on.  Some posts I found mentioned waiting 2 weeks, but I was able to get it to ungroup all of the faces immediately.  It took around a day to find all the faces again, which I had to name again, but at least my daughter and son's faces are now separated.

Sorry that no one replied, but there are only volunteers on this forum, and this has been asked many times ... 

But you were lucky that things turned out well by turning Face grouping OFF/ON. I would have warned you that you would loose what you already had, without knowing what you would get instead. Many complained that they got nothing for a long time. 

Another issue is that editing face tags is available in some countries, but not in many others.

I see that you're unable to find the photos and the album once they are marked as favorites, could you please make sure if you're able to find the favorite photos and album in the web version of Google Photos? Meanwhile, I'd suggest you to try the below steps to fix the issue:

1. Try clearing the cache and data of the Google App: Settings > Apps > Photos App > Storage > Clear Cache and then tap on Manage Space > Clear All Data.
2. Check if the Google Photos app is updated to the latest version. To check, visit Play Store and go to the Google Photos App page. If you see update button, try updating the app that may help resolve this issue.
3. If the Google Photos app is updated to latest version, uninstalling the update may help resolve the issue. Here's how: Go to device Settings > Apps or application manager > Photos > tap on the menu icon (three vertical dots) on top right corner > Uninstall updates.
4. Log out from all the Google accounts, restart the device and log into Google Photos app using the exact email account.
5. If that doesn't help, go to Settings > Apps > Google App > Disable. Later you can tap on Enable (If you've an option to uninstall the Google App, please uninstall and reinstall the app).

I do not have this folder in my Google Photos as well. And there's no "star" toggle can be seen when viewing my photos. 

There are other features still missing in my account: People folder is always empty despite me having turned on all switches in "Group similar faces". Also I am missing "Color Pop" assistant creations.
My wife has two last features on hers iphone though.

I noticed a change in the behaviour of "Stars" in albums:

• In the past you could not see/add stars in an album as soon as you "shared" it (= created a link). 
  
  
• Now I noticed that you can see/add/remove a star at least when you open the photo. 
  You still cannot see, add or remove from the thumbs view though.

My impression with Google Photos is that if lots of people want a feature it may be implemented but there again it may not.

The searching isn't great. Half the time it doesn't find some of the photos containing meta data with the search term your using! 

I have reported these but I'd be surprised if anything is done soon.

I do think they may have fixed the issue with video upload dates though. 

Still it's not a supported product for G Suite customers. 

I don't use favourites much but I have used it today to mark a photo on my android device, so hopefully when I go to my computer tomorrow, I will easily find it.

So you mean you can see the photos in web but not in mobile. In this case , you are using two different account logins, please cross check the same. Because there is no way that Google Photos app misses to show the photos which was already in web( https://photos.google.com ).

People sometimes ask this question on the forums, but they always have the answer: what has been converted - can not be returned back to the original quality.

Thanks - It sort of answers the question. I realize that once it has been converted, it cannot be converted back. What I am asking, is what did Google do with the originals when it deleted them from the phone?  In the case that a person deletes something, it shows in Recently Deleted in the iPhone Photos app (so it can be recovered), however Zero items show in Recently Deleted when Google deletes the photos from the phone. Recentemente apaguei mais de 8 mil fotos e vídeos do meu Google drive. 

No dia 24/02 meu armazenamento estava apenas com 1,6 GB e hoje, dia 02/03 está com 7,5 GB. 

As fotos que faltam sincronizar não ocuparia tudo isso de espaço, ou seja, está com algum erro. 

Peço por gentileza que verifiquem isto.

You need to activate the "Group similar faces option through the following steps.

• Tap your profile icon.
• Tap Photos settings
• Tap Group similar faces.
• Tap on the slider in front of "Face grouping".

Once done, the programme may take six to eight hours to group the faces. That depends on the size of your collection.

To restore your photos and videos I suggest you to follow the below steps:

If you deleted an item and want it back, check your trash to see if it's there.

1. On your Android phone or tablet, open the Google Photos app .
2. At the bottom, tap Library  Trash .
3. Touch and hold the photo or video you want to restore.
4. At the bottom, tap Restore. The photo or video will be back:
   • In your phone's gallery app
   • In your Google Photos library
   • In any albums it was in

If the item is not in your trash, it may be permanently deleted.

Don't see the photo or video?

If a deleted photo or video isn't in trash, you can't restore it. You won't be able to restore a photo if:

• You moved it to trash more than 60 days ago.
• You moved it to trash, then emptied your trash.
• You moved it to trash more than 30 days ago on an Android 11 and up device, and it wasn't backed up.
• You permanently deleted it from your trash.
• You permanently deleted it from your device's Gallery app, without backing it up first.
