Nevertheless, in the play store, you can search for another Lens app from other prominent developer. Some of these apps do not launch internet searches.

Ugly, but albums in the Google Photos app are created at Google, so the app must be logged-in to the same account as used in its backupsettings and probably backupping must be switched-on also.

Right now it is not possible to create a new group or manually tag photos. All you can do is:
  • Select the wrongly added photos, click 3-dots, and "Remove results". Hopefully they come back as a correct group. Photos with both kids should of course not be removed.

  • I would add all photos of the second kid to a "normal" album, awaiting a solution by Google. Many asked for the possibility to tag manually, they may implemented sooner or later.

I just received a "Developer response" to my 1-star review of Google Photos in the Play store and based on the reply (which amounts to a link on how to install/uninstall an app or come here to post a question), they did not really read my review and I have no way to reply back to their canned "We hope we helped" to tell them their response did nothing to address my problem.  I was surprised that anyone responded (albeit useless) considering my original review was from 2-months ago!

As I stated in another post here, version >5.46 takes away the ability to edit a photo and replace the original with the edited version. It forces a "Save copy" for all edits.  I recently took 2,000+ photos over a 2-day event and need to go back to another events photos from 2-months ago to make edits to them.  This could be 5,000 photos ago. 

I organize the photos from the events I shoot into albums.  "Save copy" DOES NOT put the edited photo into the album with the original nor does it tell me where it put it chronologically.  Even if it did simply put it besides the original, how am I supposed to scroll through 5,000 photos to find this edited photo so I can post/work with it?

I had to sideload 5.46 and turn off auto updating since that was the last release that works exactly how I need it to.  Every time I start Photos I have to resist the urge to throw the phone across the room since it is constantly nagging me to upgrade the app.

There are multiple alternatives to move the photos in the memory of the phone to an SD card. However, moving those through the Google Photos app allows retaining the backup and sync aspect.
Please follow the steps below to achieve the transfer.
  • Open Google Photos.
  • Tab Library.
  • Tap the desired folder under Photos on the device like Camera, Screenshots etc.
  • Select photos by long pressing then, tap others after the tick confirms the first selection
  • You can also long-press and stroke down while still in a pressed condition to select a batch.
  • Next, tap the three-dot menu top right.
  • Tap Move to folder.
  • Tap New SD folder, type a folder name, then tap Create.
Note that if the photos are already there in Google Photos, this will not remove them from the Photos. Also, even if you do not select the new fold for Backup & sync, any contents thereupon will still be deleted if you delete that using the Google Photos app.

I'm assuming what happened is when photos were autopushed from google drive to google photos it created an album based on the folder structure in drive.

Is it possible to have these albums display on the main albums page?

Hi Steve, these albums are located in the album archive at https://get.google.com/albumarchive under Photos from Drive.
 
The only way to see them in Google Photos is to search, open, select all the photos and add to a new album which will be visible in the Albums tab.

Regretfully, there is no option in Google Photos to make something private.
You can archive videos to hide from the gallery view. However, those remain viewable through the Archive section.
You can hide albums.
Or you can use the "Locked folder" feature to prevent inadvertent access. However, there will not be any backup of content in the locked folder.
