Since clearing my caches and cookies on my main computer, Google photos will no longer open on my Samsung tablet having always been fine before, it just gives me the message Explore has stopped.  Does anyone know how to cure this.

Google doesn't provide unlimited storage.

However, uploads through older pixel devices in space saver format don't count towards space.

That feature wouldn't be available for pics through Pixel 6

That doesn't depend upon the account ID

 

Possibly, the app checks the EXIF data in the picture and decides about the storage space consumption.

 

I have two phones.

Google doesn't count pics through my Pixel phone but not so for the HTC make.

First, figure out which Google (probably Gmail) account the photos are in.  Do this using a browser, log on to every Google account you you might have and check here: https://photos.google.com/u/0/

 

Once you figure out the correct account, go to the "Google Photo settings" (tap the profile icon in the upper right corner of the Google Photos app).  Then set up the correct email account in the "Back up & sync" section of the settings.

 

Google Photos and ~iCloud Photo Library~ use different approaches to data management and should not be use on the same device.

 

We are volunteers here and don't have access to your account(s) or data.

 

Laurie,  If you have follow-up questions please feel free to post here. Other people should create a "New" thread as combining issues gets confusing and noisy.

 

It is always a good idea to store important images in more than one place / tool.  My photos are in Google Photos, on my laptop, and on multiple external disk drives (not connected to any computer or network).

However, regretfully, your query is not related to some feature in the Google Photos app.

 

Did you make some changes through the Settings -> Chats -> Media visibility in WhatsApp?

Nevertheless, WhatsApp hides the media folder from visibility to other apps usually.

But, you will find directions on how to unhide that on WhatsApp FAQ pages.

 

Additionally,

I suggest you use some file explorer app to view the media content on your phone. If your phone has none, please install the "Files" app by Google. Next, ensure in the setting of the app visibility of hidden files. Then search all the media folders for a hidden file of zero byte size. Delete that file & that should resolve your problem.
