"Free up space" in the Google Photos app on mobile is intended to delete photos from the device which are uploaded to Google Photos. We already asked Google to make it more clear that photos/videos will be deleted from the device.

Is there an easy way to combine one album with another? For instance I have two separate albums and I'd like to add everything in one album over to the other album without having to scroll through all photos to find them individually. I'd like to be able to select all from one album then move them as a group to the other album thus deleting the first album.

You need to select all photos in album A and then you hit the + and select album B. 

Then open album B and choose Edit album under the 3 dots and choose the right sorting order via the small arrows and check its contents. 

If okay, close B and open A and choose Remove album under the 3 dots.

That is extremely rare here, but probably you are using your Gmail-account as it should be used for your daily mail also and not just for Photos only. Is that ?

I am having the same problem. Videos will not download to my device. They were uploaded more than a year ago. The download button appears, and when I press it it shows "downloading" but then nothing happens. 

I have tried clearing the cache on the app, moving videos to an album, sending them to another Google account, everything! Nothing works!

This is for work so it is a MAJOR problem. When I look through the forum I see it has been ongoing for years and Google has no answer and simply locks the threads rather than solve anything. Guess I'll be moving to Apple because this is just bs.

Apple will not help - but if that video is for work, why should it be downloaded to your phone then. 

I would suggest to open the standard browser on your workdesktop and then log-in to photos.google.com in the incognito or inprivate-window of that browser and then download the video to that computer - most likely that will cause no problems at all. 

I can't try myself, because I don't shoot such bulky videos. 

And just volonteers here. 

No further help from Google possible if you don't have a payed subscription to Google One.  

 

PS: if the original file is still on phone, it will not get downloaded because then you are seeing the same file in the Google app.

I work from my phone. I need it on my phone to upload to another app/site, so the desktop "work around" is not an option. I also pay for a Google Workspace account and there is no customer support there either. 

This is why I'm switching to Apple. Google is useless when their own products don't work as designed.

You also can try from photos.google.com in the Chrome-app on your Android. 

Your video(s) are stored at Google, so also on iPhone you are bound to the same Google Photos app. 

So if you are not succesfull via the Chrome (or Safari) browser, I am afraid you will get no better results unless for freshly shooted videos - but these don't need to get downloaded because they still are on phone - also on Android. 

A mysterious problem - at least for me - and no more help possible for here either if no other expert-volonteers jumps in.

One way is to disable the Back up sync mode, this way the photos will not be synced with your google account.

They will only be stored on your cell phone.

Steps to follow.

1- enter google photos.

2- Select Library

3- In the photos on device option select the album that you do not want to be incroned with google photos.

4-At the top turn off the Back up and sync option
