The Google Photos app acts as a portal viewer & shows the content from the Phone + cloud.

There is no option to stop Google Photos displaying the pics on your device.

Turning off the backup & sync is not going to change that.

The goal is to create an album with the photos from a particular trip. I've tried adding

- one by one by going to the photo and clicking "Add to album"

- opening the album and clicking "Add photos". In this method, I tried adding all at once and then tried max 30 at a time

In all the cases, I could see the album with all of them at first. Then shortly after the number of photos in that album reduced a lot and the pictures were gone from the album.

I do understand the inconvenience as the photos of your device are not getting uploaded to Google Photos. Therefore, please follow the below steps to see if that helps:

Make sure your device is up-to-date.
Make sure the App is up-to-date.
Try restarting the App through the following steps:

Go to your App Settings.
Click stop on the afflicted App with the Force Stop button.
Wait a few seconds to make sure the App has stopped processing, and then attempt to re-start it.

Close the background running apps through the following steps:

Go to your App Settings.
Display the Active Apps on your device.
Select the App you wish to close and Force Stop it.
Repeat this step with all active Apps.

Try clearing your App cache through the following steps:

Tap the system Settings tab on the main screen of your device.
Tap the General section of settings that is on the far right.
Tap Storage in the General tab.
Clear the cache data once storage calculates the data.
Back out of the storage section.
Tap Applications and find the application in question.
Tap the application and clear the cache (if available).
Clear the data for the application if there is no cache to clear.
Exit the settings screen and restart the device.

When you click on free up space it deleted the photos which are save on the device. to free up the device space. you can find those photos on google photos.

You can go to www.photos.google.com and download the images which will then show in your Gallery

or you can go to photos settings export your data >backup> It will redirect you to Google takeout if you want to download the data in the a big bunch.

But Google photos gallery is covinient

My music allows replacing the current music with your recording in MP3 format.

I don't know why but the face recognition seems to not work after some times. At the beginning it worked perfectly but now the new faces are not recognized.
But the problem is a bit more complicated than that ^^

Before, when the "new faces not recognized" problem was visible, I just have to disable and then re-enable the face recognition and it was ok.
But now this doesn't work anymore and I have a new problem: Google Photos seems to have deleted all my old tags (so I have to re-tag all people: very annoying) but in the same the same time it seems that my old tags are still here but not available to select when tagging someone .
=> When I search a given person on Google Photos, I now have multiple result for the same person, when I click on the result some are empty (no photos available for this tag) and one (and only one) the photos of this person (I think it's the current "run" of recognized people).
One the attached screenshot, you can see the multiple result for one person: the first has photos "attached" to it but the second one is empty (no photo for this tag)
And I have this problem with all my previously tagged persons

I think you maybe have a database issue somewhere that keep some information but not linked to all the needed information, preventing me to use the Google Photos correctly.
