I just noticed that all my photos from mid-2013 through mid-2016 are all gone. I have looked in all the suggested places and attempted recovery through google drive. Is there any way to find out what happened? I've lost all faith in google.

Thanks for posting in the Google Photos Help Forum.

I understand and I'll be happy to help. It can be possible that the photos weren't uploaded successfully to Google Photos (cloud) and also make sure you're logged in to Google Photos with the same Google Account that you used during the backup. Photos/videos that are not synced or backed up, will still appear in Google Photos and will have this icon  (which means not synced/backed up) or some photos/videos will also show up with the two arrows in a circle mean backup is in progress.

Once the upload is complete there will be no icon on any photos/videos. Often, many of us misinterpret that they are all backed up because the photos/videos show up in Google Photos and we over see the icons on each photo/video. If the photos/videos weren't backed up they cannot be deleted from the Google Photos library nor Trash.

In case, you are uploading a large amount of data (photos/videos), please know that it might take 24-48 hours for the photos and videos to sync across all devices. Please ensure to have 'Backup & sync' enabled on the Google Photos settings while you're backing up your photos and videos. To check is the content is backed up, login in to photos.google.com to checked for your backed up photos and videos. 

However, if you're sure they were backed up, I recommend you looking for your video here:

If a photo/s is deleted from Google Photos, it would go to Trash/Bin for the next 60 days (after deletion). Unfortunately, if the photos aren't found in Trash or deleted from Trash, I'm afraid, you might not find them else where to recover them because Trash is the last resort to retrieve your lost/deleted photos.

Meanwhile, also try giving the below steps a try once again in a sequence to help resolve the issue:

Steps to turn back up and sync on or off:
  1. On your Android phone or tablet, open the Google Photos app.

  3. At the top right, tap your account profile photo or initial.

If you have a standard Windows-10 computer, you can open its Photos-app and then choose Import right-up and then your phone will ask for permission for data-transfer and your computer start to recognise your phone before importing starts. 
Best to choose a new folder within the main Pictures-folder and don't decide to delete the pictures on phone after the transfer because that can be very uncomfortable for you. 
This action will contain all normall pictures and movies in various folders on your phone. 
It is up to you to organise these thousands in yearfolders primarily and to improve the pictures by using the editor in the Photos-app (quite comfortable).

To combine albums, please follow these steps on your phone.
  • Open the source album.
  • Select all the pics in that. You can do so by a long press on the first picture & then stroking down the finger while still in pressed condition.
  • Once done, tap the + sign at the top.
  • Scroll the list below to locate the destination album & tap on that.
All the photos will get added to the destination album.
Once done, you can delete the source album.

Open a picture and press the 3 dots to see the Download option. 
Be aware that Insta and Facebook are low quality compaired to sharing via Google Photos directly. 
Google can't help that these third party apps still can't connect to Google Photos directly.

Because Pro does not reply, I will try to reply you. 
But your question does not seem to have anything to do with Instagram and/or Facebook. 

If you have emptied the trash on the Library-page of the Google Photos, you have made it it impossible to recover any pictures deleted - unless you have deleted them in another app and then you need to check if that app has its own trash. 
There is no Google here which may be able to help you out - so we can't give a better answer without knowing much more about your behavior.

If I come out of the picture and go back it's restored back to the original full picture, but then it will go back to the compressed picture and It happens often. Is there something wrong with my app?

The app shows the pictures you have shooted, but you can change the presentation by moving two fingers to gether to get dayview or monthview (best overview). 
You always need to open a picture to see its original size when you hold your phone in the same direction as when shooted. Then you can swipe through a series very fast, but you always will have a conflict between horizontal and vertical just because phones are not square. 
So I don't think there is something wrong. 

PS: you can see how these pictures are stored at Google when viewing photos.google.com in the Chrome-app or in the browser on a computer.

No problem, I should have asked in a better way. The warning is telling you that Backup and Sync can't sync any files in the Google Drive section because your computer does not have enough storage available.
Is it possible you have Google Drive enabled and it is trying to download files to your computer.

I don't think so, things have changed since then.

I suggest you disconnect Documents and Pallavi1 from preferences and then delete My Laptop from https://drive.google.com/drive/computers  and empty the trash.

Now go to Windows explorer This PC and see how the drive space is looking as per <Screenshot online>

You can hold the Windows key and Print Screen to dump a screenshot  to your Pictures/Screenshots folder. A full screenshot will help see any other clues.
