First, the options for "save" disappeared when editing most photos, so you could no longer make non-destructive edits without "saving a copy." That was annoying, but I could live with it because saving a copy of the edited photo would retain the original date and time metadata, and I could just delete the duplicate original. In the latest version of Photos, "save copy" now deletes the date and time metadata in the edited copy and sets the date and time to the time of editing. This is extremely frustrating. Has anyone found a solution to these issues (besides avoiding the android app)?

I have noticed that majority of my camera roll photos have unfortunately been duplicated on Google photos however, the worst part of my Google photos is that the dates do not match the date when the photo was taken.

Example, a photo taken on my childs birthday (27th) would show up as a Google photos as a photo taken on 29th/30th

Ultimately my whole back up/sync is a complete mess since 2019.

1) Duplicate photo and videos 

2) Dates are wrong

Sorry to say this. There is no way to recover the permanently deleted photos.

However please give a try for following methods to recover deleted items,

• visit picasaweb.google.com and search for your photos
  
• there is a small chance that you can restore the photos using a recover deleted photos app.
• you can contact the Google Drive support team to see if any deleted files may be recovered. Use the Google Drive contact form, click Missing or deleted files, select a contact option, and be sure to tell them you permanently deleted files in Google Drive.
