Sofar Google has not informed us what you can do now, but most likely your phone hardly has working space anymore due to shooting fat 4K videos which easily can take 1000x more space then 1 photo. 

So you need to start with deleting all from 2020 and before manually in your Files-app, but it may be more comfortable to do this in the simple Google Files app which has no trash. 

However: then you need to check photos.google.com in the Chrome-app if these older photos really are stored at Google.

Not clear if you also have 3 phones, because the Photos-app can be connected to one account only for backupping. And the app only shows what you have on that phone and normally you may assume that this is the same in Google cloud for that account only. 

You may log-in with another account just for viewing, but that is confusing because then you see a mix between the content on that phone and the content of that other account. 

So your situation is unclear to me, but if the old photos are a limited amount, you can create a shared album towards your main account and then you can download its contents in your main library. 

Thereafter you can delete the shared album and start to cleanup photos.google.com in the Chrome-app gradually if you need more space for Gmailing and Drive.

I'd like to know how to delete only the synced photos and am hoping to not do it all manually. Another option is that I download all of my photos back onto my computer and just delete everything and start over? Is there a way to know if a photo is added to an album without having to go into the album and check ? If I am able to do that then deleting the double ups manually will be easier. Preferably there is some sort of folder where synced items are separated from the rest so I can just delete that folder? Thanks in advance !

The Google Photos app always shows what you have on phone but also what you have added to Google cloud via your computer. And if a part of these photos come from the same phone but edited on computer, you will see many look-alikes. So in fact the Google Photos app is not suitable for your workflow because it can't show the cloud photos on a separate page. 

So you need to delete almost all photos in the Apple cameraroll, but that can be unhandy for using other Apple apps. Thereby my proposal is not using the Photos-app anymore (can be removed later), but restrict to viewing photos.google.com via the Safari-browser like you are doing on your computer.

Sorry Cordelia, it is very hard to understand what you are doing exactly on phone as well as on computer. I only can say that on photos.google.com in Safari you can open the infopanel of an individual photo to see where it comes from like shown below on the forumsite: 

 

 

This one shows that it was uploaded via the browser on my computer, but that does not indicate from which folder on my computer. 

Not clear if you are syncing to Google Drive also, but then you can see the exact folders choosen in your settings under https://drive.google.com/drive/computers But if you start to remove folders there, they also will get removed from your computer and in order to prevent that, you need to change your settings in the Google Drive for desktop app (formerly named Backup & Sync from Google). 

Maybe this helps a bit. 

 

PS: just discovered that pictures synced by the new Google Drive for desktops app don't indicate that they were uploaded by this app - so that is a brandnew bug which I will report to Google.

I suggest you follow these steps to remove the person from the current grouping & add that to another grouping

• Tap to open the photo.
• Tap the three dots at the top right corner.
• Now, you will see a thumbnail of all the identified persons and also a pencil icon .Tap that icon.
• Now, all the identified faces will display a minus sign at the top left corner of the thumbnail. Tap that.
• The thumbnail will now move down to the row of faces below with the tag "Available to add" and the minus sign will now change to plus.
• Tap that plus. Now, the app will show the entire gallery of the persons identified to date. Tap on the right one & now the photo will get added to the correct grouping.

Hello, my name is Shyama. I've been a long time user of Google Photos on both the app and desktop version. Things were going so well until I ran into a terrible issue with the app version. When I checked my photos on the app version yesterday, all the dates were out of order. I proceeded to do the most reasonable solution which was clearing the app data and cache. But still no fix after I waited for Google to get my photos and videos. Then I logged out of my account and logged back in but STILL no fix. Since then I have tried 20 times to get the app version back in order with my photos with no success at all so far. I was wondering what can I do from here? I always like to look back at my pictures on the app version but it's a damn shame it's out of order. For some odd reason, the archived pictures are still in order. Good to hear because that means that Google has build a searchable database of your backupped pictures. But then the question remains: why can't be done the same in the app anymore? 

And I simply have no answer to that because it is so abnormal. 

Unless your phone is at its limits because having space at Google does not mean that you still have enough space on your phone - look in its general settings if you can find information about that. 

If that looks okay (at least 5 GB free), I only can advise to use the feedback option in the app under your profile to report this problem straight to Google - then you may hope that the problem is solved at Christmas. But at least you have a workaround now.
