I am a teacher. After a field trip, chaperones have shared photos in a shared Google album. 5 of my students are on a "Do Not Share" photos list. I want to efficiently remove pictures of these 5 students from this shared Google album.

When I searched help, I could only find how to remove people from a shared album, not pictures of specific people from a shared album.

Ideally, I would be able to remove them from the album without deleting them entirely.

Thanks!

Answer:

When you are the owner of a shared (collaborative) album you can delete the photos you want, but then the photos added by others are lost. You can only avoid that by
  • adding all photos to your own library
  • add them to a new album
Now you can remove the photos from the album and they will remain in the library. But then they will be difficult to find. I would rather
  • Keep the album as it is
  • Select all photos that can be shared
  • Click the "Share" icon > Get link
That creates a new shared album which only appears in https://photos.google.com/sharing
Unfortunately the implementation is very poor: unlike other albums you are not prompted to give it a title: it gets dates as title, which makes it hard to find. You can however open the album, click 3-dots > Edit album to add a title.
  • Alternative is to create a second "normal" album, which you can hide from https://photos.google.com/albums if wanted.

Answer:

This helps some. I was hoping there might be a facial recognition function that was 2 step:
1. Select all pictures with xyz face.
2. Do something with all of those pictures (like remove them from shared albums)

Is there any way to do that? I'm hoping not to scroll through thousands of pictures in a dozen different albums scanning for faces.
Thanks!

You can move them to the trash, which will remove them from all albums. Then you can recover them from trash. The people album will probably also be empty or deleted, but should be automatically created again after a while. That is guessing: I never did the above.

And of course I would not do it without having a back-up of these photos.

Question: I did free up space and photos were be in my Google photos and now i don't find it in photos

I wanna recover my photos please

Hello Nesma,

Free up space deletes the device copy and hopefully that is the only why you can't find them on the device.

If you go to https://photos.google.com/ the photos should be safely backed up.

If you have changed your mind and now want to download them again (your device will get full again) you have to do it one at a time by opening the photo and tapping the 3 dot menu; Save to Device. Unfortunately there is no current method of bulk download,

Regards,
Peter

Question: How to recover deleted photos

If your photos were deleted, they first got to the bin. They could have been restored from there within 60 days. If the photos are permanently deleted, they are gone. Like really gone. Permanently deleted. And you cannot recover them.

I want to be able to add comments to photos in albums that are only for myself. Currently it appears that an album has to be shared before a photo comment can be added.
Can this feature be added?

Answer:

"An album has to be shared before a photo comment can be added."
It is sufficient that you tap "Share" > "Create link" to get a "Shared album" where you can add comments. You do not have to send the link to anyone.

Why can't people just answer a question correctly. I found three questions in these forums all asking how to import photos from a camera into Google Photos. The answer is you can't. Unlike Picasa, Google Photos does not have an import feature.
You have to use another method to copy the photos to your computer. then you can add the photos to Google Photos.
I use Windows Explorer to copy the photos from my camera to Google Photos folder in Google Drive. Be sure Google Backup and Synch is running. After the next synch, my photos appear in Google Photos. You have to refresh the Google Photos page to see the new photos.

Answer:

Sure you can upload directly from a camera (card) to Google Photos
See this link about uploading in general, and this link especially for Picasa3 users. I still use Picasa3 to select and do some editing before uploading.

Answer:

I used to be able to do it with my Lumix camera but when I recently tried it would no longer work. The transferred photos now go into my Gallery.

Answer:

@Peter
Which Gallery are you talking about?

Foto's from a normal camera connected to computer always land in some folder and that folder can be viewed via the filemanager and for instance in the Photos-app of your Windows-10 computer.
So to get them on Google Photos you can use one of the upload methods described in this link

There is no separate dark theme in Google Photos.
However, if you set your device to dark theme, the app will emulate that.

Question: "X Photos to Delete From This Device" - But Which Ones Get Deleted?

Hi guys! As the title sort of explains, I back up my iPhone photos to Google Photos. I recently got a new kitten, so suddenly my iPhone storage is, uh, full of photos, so I need to delete some off of my phone. I'm fully backed up to Google Photos with no problems there, but I'm afraid to click that "delete photos off of my device" button as I do want to keep certain photos on my phone.

How does Google Photos determine which photos it deletes? Is there a rhyme or reason to it, or is it random?

Any info is appreciated :) thanks!

Answer:

The free up space function deletes all kittens from your phone, but they still can be viewed in the Google app because they were backupped.
Be aware that they also will get removed from iCloud and not synced to your Macbook anymore if you have one.

Answer:

Thank you! My only worry is - not ALL my photos are of the kitten (...okay, a lot of them are) but I also have a ton of photos of my old kitty who died in 2018, photos of my German Shepherd (died in 2010), photos of my disabled dad who died in May of this year, etc., so while I'm fine with the recent kitten photos getting deleted off my device, I don't want all the other photos to get removed as well. Is there any function to see/choose/somehow control which photos are deleted off of my iPhone, or is it kind of just an "ALL WILL BE SACRIFICED TO THE DELETE GOD" kind of thing?

Thank you for the info!

Answer:

Sorry for the deleay, but there was a night in between.
The purpose of having an automatic backup at Google is to offer you the freedom to keep space on your phone for new stuff. But because most people are too lazy to delete the oldest month at the start of a new month, they always run into problems.
So first check what you have at Google on photos.google.com in the Safari-app and log-in with your Gmail-account - maybe you nearly are out of space there too.
Come back to report and it also is not clear if you have a computer and uses iCloud (maybe without notice).

Answer:

You can (at least on Android, thus I think also on iOS) select a number of photos, then tap "Remove from device". That option should only appear when all photos are backed up to Google Photos.

I used to be able to see all of the albums on Google Photos web page using the iOS app.  Now I can only see some of them (maybe 25%).  What do I need to do so that I can see all of my albums?

Answer:

Hello Mark,

Thanks for posting in the Google Photos Support Community.

I understand how important Google Photos is for you and I'll be happy to help. Ensure you're logged in with the same Google Account.

If yes, then could you please uninstall and reinstall the Google Photos app on your iOS device and login with the same Google Account to check if this sorts the issue?

Let me know how it goes.

Cheers,
Amanda

i had a goofle account that i was signed in to youtube with as well as my photo backup. i created a gmail account and all of my info switched to the gmail account that i created. I dis nit want that to happen. i was just creating a gmail account to email purposes only. how do i get my google items to switch back over to my original account?

Answer:

"How do i get my google items to switch back over to my original account?"
  • When you created a new account and signed in to it in the Google Photos app on your phone, it will show you at least all photos in the DCIM (Camera) folder on the device. That does NOT mean that the photos are uploaded to the new account. To check whether the photos are uploaded you must go to https://photos.google.com/ (when signed in to the same account).

  • If however you change in the Google Photos app on your phone the account to which "Backup and sync" should upload the photos/videos, they will ALSO be uploaded to the new account. The items should however also still be on the original account.

Question: Someone is hike my private photo in google photo and hi is blackmail me

Hello Neha,

Thanks for posting in the Google Photos Help Forum.

Google Photos is already private because it is secured with your Google Account credentials. It shouldn't be a case where some one else has the access to your Google Photos and Google Account, until you haven't shared your login credentials with anyone or if hacked.

I'd recommend changing your Google Account password to secure your account. To access your backed up photos log on to photos.google.com on your desktop computer (web) or Google Photos app on any other compatible device.

Let me know if you have any questions.

Regards,
Amanda
