I was receiving storage space full warnings and wanted to delete the photos from Google Photos. My understanding was that on deletion the photos will be removed from Google Photos and will remain in my Android phone's Gallery. But after deletion from Google Photos (and clearing trash on Google Photos), the photos got deleted from my Gallery too. I tried searching these photos in my gallery's recently deleted folder but found nothing. Before starting the process, I had turned off Backup and Sync for Google Photos.
Is there a way to recover these photos?

The same holds for casting via the Chromebrowser on a laptop, but if it has a HD screen, the situation is not that bad.
But in the Home-app you can select an album on Google Photos and that will stream - but probably also until 1080p vertical. If you don't have albums created yourself, you at least can select a Google selection like Recent Highlights.
Just try because I have a normal TV and a normal Chromecast. But even these look good.

A complete reset of the Google Photos app may be required,
- tap the 3 bar menu at the top left of the photos page
- tap your email address and select Remove active account
- Power down/up or restart the device
- sign in again making sure you are using the same email
- check that the Backup & sync settings are correct
- wait until getting photos finishes, could take a while, please wait until it completes

You can make a new screenshot and check in a File manager or Gallery the newest photos. Most file managers have an option to show them all chronologically, or have an album "New files". The info of these photos should tell you where they are.
