Question: I created some albums on Samsung gallery, now i am switching to Google photos and i can't find them

I had albums created samsung gallery, after switching to Google photos, i can't find these albums.

I do not think albums transfer,
You would have to download the photos and then add them to the Google Photos album.
You can download all the photos first they choose a search by recent and then select all and move them into a new Google Album.

Thank you Samah Al Jurdi for reaching out to us in the Google Photos Forum
If this is not what you are asking, I may have misinterpreted, be sure to write back.

Question: I have accidentally deleted photo albums in google photos which were not back-up.

Kindly assist me. I really needed to retrieve the photo albums deleted in trash of my google photos …

You could not have built albums in Google Photos from pictures not backupped.
And deleting such albums would not have deleted anything already backupped.
So you probably are talking about some other type of albums - maybe device folders.
You always should check on https://photos.google.com what you really have stored at Google.
If nothing is there and not in https://photos.google.com/trash then you can't recover anything anymore.
Sorry - no Google here to blame.

You will have to look for some proprietary video player to do so.

My Drive storage breakdown shows that I am currently using 1.66 GB for google photos storage. But when I go through my folder in Drive, all of the photos and Videos are listed as taking up Zero storage space because they have been backed up from a Pixel phone. I'm wondering how i can find what is taking up that space so I can reclaim it?

Answer:

Hello Ryan,

Thanks for posting in the Google Photos Help Forum.

I'll be happy to help you. Could you please click this link and check which Google Product is consuming more storage quota and share your results?

If you're Google Storage (cloud) is full, then it might be possible that you've uploaded/backed up your photos on "Original" setting as this will actually consume storage space or quota on Drive Storage when compared to the photos uploaded/backed up in "High Quality" which has no limit on storage.

Also, please note that drive storage segregated to other Google products such as Google DriveGmail and Google Photos. May be the storage space shows full, as this might be occupied by other two Google products.

Keep me posted.

Regards,
Amanda

Answer:

Hi Amanda, It is google photos that is shown as taking up space
But all of the photos have been uploaded from a Pixel phone and their quality should not affect my drive quota. I even went through and checked the google photos folder in Drive, and they are not marked as taking up any space.

The ability to attach photos to this fourm seems to be broken too, so I can't show you screenshots.

Answer:

Hi Ryan, you can't see which photos are taking up storage in Google Photo as unfortunately the developers omitted to include that option.

Free storage is for the primary account holder and only on the Pixel, sometimes a user's previous device is still registered, if you go to https://myaccount.google.com/device-activity to see if you have any old devices registered, if so remove them.

You might need to take some test photos before to see if they add to the quota total, then again after to see if they no longer add to the quota.

Let me know how you get on,

Regards,
Peter

Answer:

Hi PeteranDi,

Thanks for the reply! I ended up having to download a bunch of my pictures and reupload them from my pixel in order to clear 1.65 of the used data. So right now google photos is using .01 GB of my drive storage, which is acceptable, its probably just a very small file that somehow slipped through the screening on Google's end, since everything is now certainly uploaded from a pixel.

Trying to create an initial copy to Google One of files that reside on an SD card.  The total size is 40GB with 15K+ files, organized in ~1000 folders. Using Google Drive app won't allow selection of the root folder so it and all sub-folders/files are selected simultaneously.  So, I'm attempting to use ES File Manager.  It has copied ~10GB but stopped along the way (needing restart where it left off) three times.  No error message with an indication of why it stopped.  Anyone have an idea why it keeps stopping given the known upload issues?  File managers OK to use?

Answer:

Hi Dennis, slightly out of scope for a Photos question, but I would guess that the size is too much for Android to manage. The best option would be to plug the card into a computer and upload direct to Drive using the Drive upload function. Might even be able to drag and drop, best, Peter

Hi Avinash,

If the deleted photos are still in the Google Photos Trash you might be able to restore them as explained in these instructions https://support.google.com/photos/answer/6128867?co=GENIE.Platform%3DAndroid&oco=1

Otherwise it’s not possible to recover photos permanently deleted from the Trash. However, you may install to your Android device a deleted photo recovery app (be sure to pick one that doesn't require rooting) https://play.google.com/store/search?q=recover%20deleted%20photos&c=apps and run a scan for anything to recover.

Answer:

Hello Lindsay,

Google have not currently provided the tools to see exactly what is using storage, the only method is to open the photos in the main photos page and look at the info panel <see screenshot online>

Any photo added from another source or without your Pixel camera ID will use storage if uploaded or added after June the 1st.

I also assume you have no https://photos.google.com/unsupportedvideos and the number was also zero on the 31st of May

Why are photos and videos uploaded *before* June 1, 2021 counting towards my Google quota?  When I click on the Storage button in the bottom of the menu

It takes me to a page that claims "Only photos & videos that count towards your Google Account storage will appear here" and then it proceeds to list *many* photos and videos that were uploaded before June 1, 2021 which are being counted.

It doesn't seem to make any sense to me, other than a cash grab by burning off my quota in the first few months.

I accidently clicked on free-up space which I stopped in middle. But I want to find out which photos have been deleted from my device and how can I restore it in my dedvice.

Answer:

Hi, Rimple Dedhia

Welcome to Google Photos Community Support Forum & thanks for your query.

The "Free up space" option will remove everything through the synced folders.
Nevertheless, if you have stopped the action in-between, you can restart that again without worrying about what's backed up or not. The app will take care of everything.

Nevertheless, please copy the entire content to some local storage before going for free sup space. That ensures the continued availability of the media in case of some malfunction.

Answer:

Hi,  Rimple Dedhia

Thanks for your reply

There is no easy way to find which pictures the app has removed while freeing up the space.

Nevertheless, you can follow these steps.
Every photo contains the device name through which you have snapped the picture.
Tap the first one starting from the date you commenced use of the phone.
Slide up & see whether that contains two pieces of information.
  • Download
  • Name of the device.
That means the app has removed the picture from the current device.
You have to go on checking like so through every picture.

Google Photos doesn't unfortunately support changing or controlling the playback speed of animations. As a workaround you may use a different animation or video editing app.
