When you use two or more search terms, the default operator is AND.  In order to search in a large album you should give it an unique name which finds only the photos in the album. You can search with that title and another term.  You can also use part of the album title, but the less specific, the more chance to get hits.

Haha just dumped a bunch of issues that have been bothering me for a while.

That worked, thanks! It's good that this is possible, I guess the issue then is it's not intuitive. The search bar can display filters such as Albums and other arguments, like GMail does it for example. They could also include the search bar right in the albums.

Thanks for confirming that it does work. I agree that it should be more intuitive. Google does suggest album titles when you start typing, but you cannot click on it and add a search term. You have to type it again. Good but not great.

Yes, a big problem, as you mentioned, is that albums would have to have very unique names for this to be useful. Otherwise, the results returned will not be from the album only. There should be an option to search exclusively in an album, and even in multiple select albums. Google is a search company, yet they seem to lack any kind of advance search options in their Photos service. They already have the ingredients for it, that just need to be made available for indexing/searching/filtering, so that searches like this could be possible: Find "Person1" with "Person2" and "Object1" in "Album1" and/or "Album2" between "Date" and "Date" in "Location" type "Video".

Most of my albums start with YYYY-MM (like 2021-10) followed by some keywords, which makes them unique indeed. Consistent use of keywords also allows to search in groups of albums. 

Having the option to search in selected albums only would be fine, but I very much doubt that there are enough requests to consider this: they still refuse to implement sorting by file name in spite of it being very easy to implement and asked by thousands.

Needless to say, hope this can be solved as I can imagine how frustrated you must be. An initial question for you is whether you ever recall seeing your images anywhere but on the phone that you used to take the pictures. More specifically, did you ever see your images at Google Photos (photos.google.com) on a browser of your laptop or tablet or other device? If not, though this is no comfort, I know, it is possible that the images were never actually backed up but perhaps merely queued to back up (a distinction that is sadly confusing on many phones and tablets). If the answer is that you have viewed the photos at the Google Photos site, there is an excellent chance that they are there and that you will be able to recover them.

In any case, in searching Google for missing images you should check the following sites (being sure to sign in with the same Google Account you used on the phone or device with which you took the pictures):

• photos.google.com
• photos.google.com/trash
• get.google.com/albumarchive
• drive.google.com (in the Google Photos Folder, if one exists)
• https://photos.google.com/search/_tra_  (Recently Added)
• https://photos.google.com/albums (People, Places, Things, etc.)

If you still can't find the images,  I'm afraid that there is nothing that can be done.

Things to keep in mind about this setting:

• Changing backup settings will affect all apps that use Back up & sync, such as Google Drive.
• If you have Back up & sync on, deleting the Google Photos app from your device will not turn it off. To turn off Back up & sync, follow the instructions above.

However, the modified date will remain on the cloud only. If you download the picture, that will show the original date or no date.

One photo shows stroked cloud while other one does not. The photo is NOT duplicated on web photos app, it is also not duplicated on the native ios phots app. This happens to random photos. Hi Łukasz,

Thanks for writing back.

Google Photos has identical duplicate detection, where if you have uploaded photos to Google Photos already, it will not re-upload the same photo (each photo file has a unique "Hash" that allows us to determine this).

Hence, Google Photos avoids uploading duplicates, when different upload methods or devices are used, as long as the photos aren't edited. There is no easy way to remove duplicates, but some of the following may help:

 

1. You can delete duplicates manually, for example in https://photos.google.com/ where they should be next to each other.
2. The problem is however which one to delete:
• one photo may be edited, the other not,
• one photo may be in an album, the other not.
3. When the upload dates are different (for example when you uploaded long ago via Picasa, and now again using the Desktop uploader). It may be easier to delete the duplicates in https://photos.google.com/search/_tra_ where they are sorted by upload date.
4. There are more ways to get a useful search result, for example the device from which they are uploaded.
5. See https://sites.google.com/site/picasaresources/Home/Picasa-FAQ/google-photos-1/how-to/how-to-search-for-photos
6. Since very recently it is possible to delete photos directly from an album. Go to "More options" (3-dots icon), and use "Move to trash"
7. When you uploaded in the free "High Quality" and have your photos in albums, it may be wiser to simply ignore the duplicates in the library.

Unfortunately, a feature to sort and delete duplicates of photos with Google Photos that are already backed up doesn't exist. You may have to manually select the duplicates and delete them.

Meanwhile, also try uninstalling and reinstalling the Google Photos app on your iOS device to check if it resolves the issue.

Thank you for the prompt reply. Unfortunately  it does not answer my question. I don't see any duplicates on the web https://photos.google.com/. I see duplicates only in the photos up in the iphone for some photos. Sometimes it creates a duplicate while backing up, sometimes not. I do not see any pattern. I can not delete duplicates If i delete a backed up copy it deletes it from google photos. If I delete the non backed up copy then it deletes it from my native IOS app and i cloud.

This is still happening, exactly as original poster mentioned. Any hope of seeing this bug fixed?

(As stated photos are not really duplicated, just it seems Google Photos on iOS thinks the original photo from iOS Photos and the Google Photos uploaded copy are *not* the same photo and thus shows them as separate photos)

• The pop-up screen will show the following options "My music" "Theme Music" or "No music".
• My music allows replacing the current music with your recording in MP3 format.
