You don't tell why you were deleting, but I assume because of too less free space on your (old?) phone. 

Or just because it was rubbish merely????
With backup-on you would have not seen any change in the Google-app because the deleted pictures are replaced by their copies at Google. That is done for safety, just to be able to make space without ruïning your backup. 

But for some strange reason you don't explain you also would have your backup deleted: then you should have done your deletions on the Photos-page in the Google app with back-up on. 

Can't help that you did not test that before starting with some "bad pictures".

No, you can't select individually - just check what you see at Google via photos.google.com in the Chromebrowser, because these 1447 items should be there. 

The function only removes the pictures from your phone which are stored at Google ("back-upped"). 

After that action your standard Apple Photos app will be empty, but the Google Photos will show your copies at Google when you have wifi or a data-connection. 

So be warned. 

 

PS: in the general phone settings you can find how much free space you still have on phone. But if less then 5 GB, you really need to free-up space - especially when shooting movies very often.

But most people are not acquainted to use Google Photos because they are on Whatsapp the whole day and I have no insight in your type of usage of the Google Photos app. 

Be aware that all "albums" you may have created in the Apple gallery also will disappear.

I am just warning - so don't shoot the messenger. 

And if you still have enough space on phone, there is no acute reason to use free-up space now.

The photos should remain in Google Photos, but will be deleted from the phone, and (if I understand it correctly), also from iCloud.

Anyway, when you delete photos from the phone via Google Photos, you may be left with a single copy, which is NEVER safe. See Google Photos "Free Up Space" command is scary

Could you please elaborate the issue or your query for me to assist you better? Are you referring to backing upyour photos/videos from your Android device to Google Photos? If yes, to Backup your photos/video, before you start, make sure you're signed in. 

1. On your Android phone or tablet, open the Google Photos app .
2. Sign in to your Google Account.
3. At the top, tap Menu .
4. Select Settings  Back up & sync.
5. Tap "Back up & sync" on or off.

Things to keep in mind about this setting:

• Changing backup settings will affect all apps that use Back up & sync, such as Google Drive.
• If you have Back up & sync on, deleting the Google Photos app from your device will not turn it off. To turn off Back up & sync, follow the instructions above.

If you've lost your photos and they don't show up in Google Photos. Maybe the videos weren't uploaded successfully at the first place to Google Photos (cloud). Photos/videos that are not synced or backed up, will still appear in Google Photos and will have this icon  (which means not synced/backed up) or some photos/videoswill also show up with the two arrows in a circle mean backup is in progress.

Once the upload is complete there will be no icon on any photos/videos. Often, many of us misinterpret that they are all backed up because the photos/videos show up in Google Photos and we over see the icons on each photo/video. If the photos/videos weren't backed up they cannot be deleted from the Google Photos library nor Trash.

If a photo/s is deleted from Google Photos, it would go to Trash/Bin for the next 60 days (after deletion). Unfortunately, if the photos aren't found in Trash or deleted from Trash, I'm afraid, you might not find them else where to recover them because Trash is the last resort to retrieve your lost/deleted photos.

The editor in the Google Photos app allows corrections in the orientation of pictures.

To do so, please follow these steps through the phone app.

• Tap to open the picture
• Tap on the edit icon below the picture
• Tap on menu option Crop.
• Tap on the rotation symbol for achieving a turn through ninety degrees. Each successive tap will add ninety degrees going through 90 -> 180 -> 270 -> and again back to 360 degrees.
• That will help you correcting sideways or upside-down orientations.
• If you wish to fine-tune, move the slider above the rotation symbol. That helps in correcting slight misorientations at an increment of one degree.

However, if the pics captured through your camera need rotation correction, I suggest you either reinstall the camera app or seek the help of some repair technician.

Open the Google Photos app, click on your profile > photos settings> Backup & Sync and disable the backup toggle

 

Then go to www.photos.google.com and delete the images and even delete those images from trash to permanently delete it.
