I android's photo sync for Photos for years now and I would like to add my DSLR photos to my Google Photos now. I tried web upload which allow me to upload one folder then after upload finished add all uploaded photo to an album which is good because I would like to keep my desktops folder structure.
But slow for hudreds of thousand photo. I installed backup and sync. I added a test folder. The photos uploaded to Photos and to my Drive as well. I can see the photos in folder with the original folder name in Drive but I cant add them to an album in Photos.
1. If lately google finished Photos and Drive sync why this is apear in two place?
2. Is there any way I can transfer the folder structure to the Photos albums?
3. I realized if I crop a photo in windows than will sync to Drive but not to Photos. Looks like now I have my photos separetly in two different place. Is that correct?
4. Why is this so complicated in 2019 for the world biggest IT company. Every time I would like to use one of goolgle's service feels like they outsourced to some newbie software company without any planning. :(

Answer:

1. If lately google finished Photos and Drive sync why this is apear in two place?
This is the way Backup and Sync was designed and can be used in a similar way to OneDrive where you select your computer libraries. The option to upload to Google Photos is an added function which doesn't use double storage.
2. Is there any way I can transfer the folder structure to the Photos albums?
No, manual only at this time. No plans known but is technically possible
3. I realized if I crop a photo in windows than will sync to Drive but not to Photos. Looks like now I have my photos separetly in two different place. Is that correct?
Yes, consider it Backup only for photos and videos after curation is complete on the computer
4. Why is this so complicated in 2019 for the world biggest IT company. Every time I would like to use one of Google's service feels like they outsourced to some newbie software company without any planning. :(
Couldn't be simpler, no comment on Google's planning or lack of.

Answer:

Thank you
Something I cant understand "doesn't use double storage." and  "I have my photos separetly in two different place. Is that correct? Yes,..." sounds like opposite.
I just tested and edited a Photos's photo which doesnt synced to drive. So they are two separete copy now.
I just would like to upload all my photos and dont use any storage. This works with high quality upload to Photos through web browser but what about Backup and sync which uploads the photos to my drive as well?

Answer:

If you check the details in Drive you should see that 0Bytes which indicates that no storage is used.
<>
Think of it as the photo being uploaded to Google Photos leaving behind a stub file with zero storage. The 'edited photo is simply a shortcut back to your original copy.

Question: How to transfer photos and contact to a new phone

Trying to transfer photos and contacts to a new phone

You don't need to transfer anything.
If your new phone is logged-in to the same Gmail-account as your old one, your contacts sored at Google are automatically available - you only need to log-in to the Gmail-app and the Photos-app to be able to see your old mails and old photos.
Then you can go on with mailing, but in the Photos-app you also need to adjust the backupsetting to you Gmail-account and to choose the same quality setting as in your old phone in order to get new pictures backupped into the same account.
That's all

Question: Syncing apps on a Samsung S20

Trying to sync my app's on my Samsung s20

Which app's?
To sync with what?
If you former phone(s) was (were) set-up with Gmail-account A, your new S20 also should be setup with Gmail-account A - not with a new account B or C or D.
That makes life more comfortable.

Answer:

The only usual Google-apps that need syncing are the Gmail-app and the Photos-app.
So it is like I said: these apps need to get logged-in with the same Gmail-account as used on your foregoing phone(s).
Hard to say more if you stay so unclear.

I have three albums with my boyfriend on them because each album has different pictures but some of the same I would like to combine all the albums and then delete the duplicates

Answer:

Hi, Sandra DePugh

Welcome to Google Photos Community Support Forum & thanks for your query.

To combine albums, please follow these steps on your phone.
  • Open the source album.
  • Select all the pics in that. You can do so by a long press on the first picture & then stroking down the finger while still in pressed condition.
  • Once done, tap the + sign at the top.
  • Scroll the list below to locate the destination album & tap on that.
All the photos will get added to the destination album.
Once done, you can delete the source album.

Further, when we add a pic to an album, we are creating a tag only.
Thus, one hoto can be a member of multiple albums. There is no duplication.

Took 57 photos while hiking and had no service. Exiting park tried looking at them and none were there. Restarted phone, nothing. When got back to house opened photos and it said 57 items to back up. So connected to WiFi and said backing up items(while showing mini thumbnails of the photos)  Once completed still unable to locate any of them on any platform/drive/album/folder...please help

Answer:

Strange, because even when you have no wifi, the Google app always should show what is in your camera-folder like any gallery-app.
And I hardly can imagine that Android is attaching such wrong dates to your actual pictures.
But if so, they can be found at recently added in your desktopbrowser at https://photos.google.com/search/_tra_
And then you can select that bunch and choose Edit dates & times and shift all to the correct date.
Thereafter they will be visible on top of the normal library.
But still a mystery.

Answer:

Mine showed up in January 200 also BUT do not show up on my phone memory just on Google Photos. I am dumbfounded how pictures taken with the phone which should be saved on the phone are not on the phone?!?! Cellular service should be 10000% irrelevant. The album Google created had 40/57 photos...

Answer:

Google does not create albums, unless done by you.
But fresh pictures taken should be in the section Device folders shown on the Album page and normally they should be shown in the Camera-folder -assuming it were normal pictures - no tric-pictures.
You also can view these folders under the 3 small lines.
And these pictures should the actual date of shooting - and that will not be in the year 2000.
So your story is a mystery.
No Google here - just other users - so you have to wait on a more brilliant expert.

Most likely that app only can work with pictures which are still present on your phone and most pictures that you see in the Google Photos app are still present on your phone merely.
But if you have some older pictures from a former phone which are in Google-cloud only, but also shown in the Photos-app, you need to open a single image and then tap the 3 dots right-up and then choose Download under the photo. Repeat that action for some other old pictures.
This method is not suitable if you need hundreds of old photos back on phone, but then you must be more clear about your needs and if these photos are present on photos.google.com in the Chrome-app.
Best

Hi Sanjeev,

The folder where your phone stores screenshots is set by the device's manufacturer and Google Photos has unfortunately no control over where it's placed.

Answer:

Hi, Geovany Kelly

Welcome to Google Photos Community Support Forum & thanks for your query.

However, regretfully, your query is not related to some feature in the Google Photos app.

Did you make some changes through the Settings -> Chats -> Media visibility in WhatsApp recently?
Nevertheless, WhatsApp hides the media folder from visibility to other apps, usually.
But, you will find directions on how to unhide that on WhatsApp FAQ pages.
