When an interesting picture comes up in memories, the first thing I want to do is zoom in and examine the details of the picture, but that most basic feature of a smartphone doesn't work. Maybe I want to edit the picture and share it, but that isn't possible either. 

Sliding up gives some info about the picture but doesn't put me in a position to zoom in on it or edit it. Choosing View Day often just takes me to Photos but not the day. When it works, I have to fumble around looking for the picture.

If you've deleted them from Google Photos and want to restore them, please know that photos/videos deleted from the Google Photos library, goes to the Trash for the next 60 days. So, in case, you deleted it by mistake you can always restore it from Trash folder within those 60 days (post deletion). But, if you don't find it in Trash, probably it must have been deleted more that 60 days ago. Unfortunately, restoring your lost/deleted photos and videos from Trash is the last resort.

When the quantum of photos awaiting the free up action is too large & also the phone has very little space, the "free up space" command fails to do anything. 
Also, the app may crash.
 
To mitigate the problem, please start deleting manually. 
To do so, tap to open the photo. If you find an option "Delete from device" below the pic, tap that.
 
Once a sizable space is free, you can try using the "Free up space" option again.
 
However, before deleting any picture, it's always prudent to copy those on some external HDD. That eliminates the chance of any accidental loss of the media from the phone or cloud.

Alternatively, open the album of that person. Tap the three dots & then "Remove results".
Select the entire collection & finish.
 
However, once you remove the results, you can't undo that action. Hiding a person allows you unhide that when you change your mind.

3. Uploading to Photos via Drive
Details: I successfully uploaded all .png files into google drive folder. Then I went to photos.google.com > upload from > google drive... Error Can't upload

Unfortunately Google don't share any information about 'why' we can only guess it is hard limit based on a handling limit in the software they use to store the uploaded photos. What we can see is that the file is uploaded in it's original size and converted online.

  3. If available, open your device folders to find your missing item.
If you want your device folder items to appear in your Photos tab, you can back them up automatically.

Unfortunately, it is not possible to change the playback speed of an auto animation. An alternative would be to use the video editing tool to create a video from your photos and set the speed that way.

And I'd recommend sending the team feedback:
In the Google Photos Android app, touch the Menu  > Send feedback.

I agree with all comments here. Very disappointing that I can't edit the animation speed! I created it for my 93 yr-old Mother, but won't be sending it to her--way TOO fast. Will have to delete and start over. 😔

So disappointing - both animation and movies created from still images should be able to be played at a rate that allows actual viewing of the images. What a waste of time. I agree with the previous post - whoever set that speed rate was not thinking of the user experience.

Label your face group
When you label your face group as "me", you:
  • Get more personalized creations. For example, a movie that has photos of you.
  • Get personalized search. You can search "me" to easily find photos of yourself.
  • Make it easier for contacts to get suggestions to share with you. When your contacts take photos of you, they may get a suggestion to share photos they have of you with you. 
Note: This feature is not available in all countries. 
Confirm your face group and help your contacts get suggestions to share photos with you
If you select your "me" face label, you help the Google Photos app on your contacts' devices group images of you. Then, Google Photos can send them suggestions to share photos they have of you with you.
  1. On your Android phone or tablet, open the Google Photos app .
  2. At the top right, tap your account profile photo or initial.
  3. Tap Photos settings  Group similar faces.
  4. Turn on Face grouping if it isn't on already.
  5. Under "No face labeled as Me," tap Choose.
  6. Select your face. Tap Ok. This will automatically turn on Help contacts recognize your face. 
Who can get suggestions to share photos with you
  • Contacts that you've interacted with in Google Photos or Gmail may get a suggestion to share photos they have of you with you.
