can photos be stored in an album only without existing in the default photos page
Hi Frank,
Welcome to the Google Photos Product Support Forum!
>>>> can photos be stored in an album only without existing in the default photos page
No.
You can ~hide~ them in the "Photos" stream with the Archive function, but in general it's probably better to just ignore them (unless they are personal or embarrassing images).

What did you change?
Or was your phone upgraded to Android-11?
Or whatever.
But check on photos.google.com in the Chrome-app if you are seeing duplicates there - maybe the app is just checking only for some reaosn unknown to us.
Good luck

I've noticed over the past few months that random photos suddenly become corrupted with rainbow pattern swatches blocking out portion of the image. When I download the image, the rainbow shows up so it isn't just a display problem.
I found this thread with this exact same problem from January 2021, but there were no solutions for that original poster.
Here's an example of the problem.

Answer:
We can't answer such weird questions, because you don't even tell where this weird image is coming from. Maybe the sd-card in your camera is corrupted.
The Google Photos app shows the images on your phone - not the images at Google. Did you check on photos.google.com in the Chrome-app if the same images are corrupted, because when backupped shortly after shooting they may have been okay and therefor also okay at Google unless edited recently.
PS: when downloaded to my computer, I can see that the image comes from a Pixel 5, so I would consult the Pixel-community also.
Answer:
This image was uploaded to Photos months ago and was perfectly fine until recently. I haven't edited or changed the image since it was synced with Photos. The image displayed fine for months until yesterday it didn't. The attached image was what it looks like now at photos.google.com.
Like I said, another user reported the exact same issue. When I look at it on the Photos app on my phone, it displays correctly without all the rainbow stuff all over it.
Dave
Answer:
Then the clear conclusion is that the images were corrupted by Google on some unknown date after uploading. Because there is no reasonable explanation (not even for Google), you should try to open photos.google.com in the incognito window of some other browser to avoid the influence of strange extensions. You also can send us a link to a few typical pictures in order to discover technical problems.
For the moment it makes no sense for us to escalate such very rare incidents.
Goodnight
Answer:
"When I look at it on the Photos app on my phone, it displays correctly"
I think that in the photos app you see the device copy, and on the web app the (corrupt) cloud copy. You could upload it again, but Google's duplicate prevention may prevent this, and deleting the cloud copy may also delete the device copy. See Delete from Google Photos but not from mobile device how to prevent this.
Although it's exceptional, corrupt images does happen. That's why we should always have more than one (not synced) copy of our photos. I thus strongly recommend to make a copy of all photos on the device, and at least of the photos you need to replace.
Answer:
That's too bad. I had hoped that photos.google.com could be my backup strategy. But I guess I'll need to implement offline backup instead.
Thanks for the replies.
Dave
Answer:
Not instead - just additional and for a better reason then just having extra copies: on pc you have large screen for editing and organising in a much more comfortable way then on phone and then you are able to build a valuable collection for life like Jan and I have done for years since Google-Picasa in 2005.
The Photos-app in Windows-10 is a good help for doing that and it also has a handy importer when you connect the Pixel with your computer via its usb-cable.
But apart from that: I am awaiting a link to a few corrupted images because I remember me now a comparable case from a few years agoo in which finally turned-out to be a weird browserproblem in Firefox. You also can view photos.google.com in the Chrome-app on your Pixel.

Question: How to delete Google photos
You can't delete the app, but you can make it passive by removing your account from it under the small circle right-up. Then you can select: Use without account under Manage accounts.
Nevertheless the app always will show what you have on phone like any gallery would do.
So just neglect.
PS: be aware that you are responsible yourself for managing your backup every week.

If that "different device" also is an Android, you can select "Use without account" under the profile circle of the Photos-app or remove your own account only. Under Manage accounts.
Not automatically clear which account is used in the backupsettings however, so you should check that too via Settings > Backup.

The Google Photos collage feature is quite simple, so it's unfortunately not possible to rotate the photo sinside or change the sizes of the boxes. As a workaround you may edit the photos to rotate them before creating the collage.

You can remove your screenshot from your thread becayse it contains personal information.
But most likely your friend "Ruby" also has logged-in to the Gmail-app on your phone.
PS
This does not have anything to do with Google Photos unless there are several log-ins there also.

Answer:
@Karole
Because nobody understands how the Photos-app works and do not test that by deleting a few less good images everyone has. What you see are the photos on your phone, so if you start deleting, you are deleting your originals primarily and with backup ON, you also are deleting their copies at Google.
So cleaning-up your phone should be done in an independant gallery-app or in the files-app or by using the free-up space option in the app which deletes all.
The blank spaces will disappear gradually if the app is logged-in to the same account as used in its backup settings.
But hopefully you can find them in trash on the Library-page and then they can be restored.
However: if you have emptied the trash also for no need, all are lost forever.
Sorry to tell this because there is no Google here who learns from these daily disasters.
Answer:
That depends Karole: if you would have build a neatly edited and valueable collection of thematic albums during years which can be viewed on various devices and on TV, you also may use the highly sophisticated image intelligence of Google for grouping faces and searching pictures etc.
But then we also need a less confusing and dangerous design and that is the problem for people who merely are on Whatsapp the whole day.

Question: Hi how are you
Hi Malik,
Please review the following information in case there are any options you haven't yet tried.
1. Check your online account - photos.google.com
If your photos were successfully uploaded to your online Google Photos account they may be available there. Try visiting photos.google.com and searching for them. If you have more than one Google account, check all of them.
2. Check the trash - photos.google.com/trash
Once you delete photos from your Google Photos account, they're moved to Trash for the next 60 days. If you deleted them by mistake you can always restore them from the Trash folder within those 60 days. Here's the link explaining how to recover them from Trash. If you have more than one Google account, check the trash for all of them.
If you accessed the Trash and manually sent the photos for permanent deletion, or if the 60 days expired, there is no way to recover them from Google Photos.
3. Review other options
- visit picasaweb.google.com and search for your photos.
- have you made any backups of the photos on your phone, camera, computer, or elsewhere?
- there is a small chance that you can restore the photos using a recover deleted photos app.
- you can contact the Google Drive support team to see if any deleted files may be recovered. Use the Google Drive contact form, click Missing or deleted files, select a contact option, and be sure to tell them you permanently deleted files in Google Drive.
- If you ever shared the photos with anyone else, it's possible they may have a copy they could share back or send to you.
