A few days ago, I started using Backup & sync on my imac.  Yesterday I looked at some old photos on Google Photos and found that most of my pics had been duplicated. I looked at the log from back up and sync, and it looks like its uploading my Apple photos, which had already been upload by google photo uploaded once before.

I am thinking about using the (https://photos.google.com/search/_tra_) and deleting the last few weeks of pics, BUT I uploaded and filed 3000 new pics last Friday. 

Is there any other way to delete the duplicates or roll back the IMAC sync?

Welcome to the Google Photos Help Community.

Just wanted to let you know that Google Photos should detect duplicates regardless of upload device, unless the files have been modified during transfer between devices. Even if a single bit is different in two images, then Google Photos won't see them as duplicates and it will consider them as two different photos. If you see the duplicate photos, you may need to delete them manually as there isn't any other way to delete them.

The free up option removes the originals of backed up pics from the phone.

That creates space to capture new photos.

Restoring the backed up pictures would be defeating the whole purpose of the free up space exercise.

 

To bring back the pics to your phone's gallery either, you can download photos one by one.

Regrettably, there is no option to do so on a batch of photos.

 

Alternatively, you can install the Google One app. There is a one time option to restore up to two hundred most recent photos to the device.

However, that will not restore the local folder structure.

There is no requirement to join Google One. The option is available to everyone. 

However, the method may not be helpful to recover something when the count is more than two hundred.

 

Or, you can arrange for a bulk download by visiting the link https://takeout.google.com/.

Select the Google Photos app for data download.

Once the file is ready, you will get an email. Access that & unzip all the attachments into your phone's gallery.

 

That will bring everything to your phone.

Thanks for posting in the Google Photos Help Community.

I'll be happy to help you. Maybe the photos that aren't showing up in your wife's account weren't uploaded successfully at the first place to Google Photos (cloud) on your account. Photos/videos that are not synced or backed up, will still appear in Google Photos and will have this icon  (which means not synced/backed up) or some photos/videos will also show up with the two arrows in a circle mean backup is in progress.

Once the upload is complete there will be no icon on any photos/videos. Often, many of us misinterpret that they are all backed up because the photos/videos show up in Google Photos and we over see the icons on each photo/video.

To check is the content is backed up, login in to photos.google.com to checked for your backed up photos and videos.

The face detection feature is still evoving & may err sometimes.

I suggest you follow these steps to remove the person from the current grouping & add that to another grouping

• Tap to open the photo.
• Tap the three dots at the top right corner.
• Now, you will see a thumbnail of all the identified persons and also a pencil icon .Tap that icon.
• Now, all the identified faces will display a minus sign at the top left corner of the thumbnail. Tap that.
• The thumbnail will now move down to the row of faces below with the tag "Available to add" and the minus sign will now change to plus.
• Tap that plus. Now, the app will show the entire gallery of the persons identified to date. Tap on the right one & now the photo will get added to the correct grouping.

All my pictures are "synced" to the cloud. Using this features for some time now. i did an "archive pictures" from my computer, with several pictures. They disappeared from my android gallery, and from google photo app (kind of normal). I decided same day the "unarchive" them. They reappeared on google photo (both pc and android), but not in the gallery. Where are they ? plus i'm using the "advised" unlimited space from google, and pictures stored on the cloud are much smaller ! So I can't even use them (Download and use) for HD Printing. How can google remove pictures from my phone (hide is ok but delete, definitely) ... sometime i feel like google and apple are not that far.
