The camera on your phone is encoding wrong EXIF data.
You can correct the orientation through the following steps.
 
The editor in the Google Photos app allows corrections in the orientation of pictures.
To do so, please follow these steps through the phone app.
  • Tap to open the picture
  • Tap on the edit icon below the picture
  • Tap on menu option Crop. See the screenshot at the bottom "Rotate".
  • Tap on the rotation symbol for achieving a turn through ninety degrees. Each successive tap will add ninety degrees going through 90 -> 180 -> 270 -> and again back to 360 degrees.
  • That will help you correcting sideways or upside-down orientations.
  • If you wish to fine-tune then move the slider above the rotation symbol. That helps in correcting slight misorientations at an increment of one degree.
However, as a permanent solution, you may have to reinstall the camera app or take help of some repair technician.

Welcome to the Google Photos Help Forum.

I do understand the inconvenience as all of your photos are not getting re-uploaded to Google Photos using Backup & Sync. Therefore, I recommend disconnecting and reconnecting your Backup and Sync by following the below steps to see if that helps:
  • On your computer, click Backup and Sync.
  • Click More.
  • Select Preferences.
  • Click Settings.
  • Click Disconnect account.
  • Click Disconnect.
  • Sign in with the account you use with Google Drive.
If that doesn't help, please try the below steps as well:
  • Click the Backup and Sync icon.
  • Click on More.
  • Select Quit Backup and Sync.
  • Reopen Backup and Sync.
If nothing helps, please write back to me with a screenshot so that I can take it forward. Also, redact any personal information while sharing the screenshot.

My apologies for mentioning the fact that your photos are not getting re-uploaded to Google Photos. 

Therefore, I recommend trying the above steps to see if that helps in stop re-uploading your photos to Google Photos through Backup and Sync.

Hi, I simply want all my photos to be auto uploaded to Google photos from my pc , the same way as they are from my phone, ( as it was before I updated the software on my pc a few days ago) when I try to do this it always starts uploading them all to Google drive. Which is where the problems start. I don't want them to go to Google drive.

Geolocation setting is turned on for all the devices sharing the photos, yet not available when seen in shared albums from other devices. Its a important data for memories, hope some fix is available soon..

I found the answer I was looking for. If you go to Google Takeout you can download anything you've uploaded onto any google owned site (Youtube, Drive, Gmail, etc) in original quality. They are big files, but I'm just so happy I can download my videos as they were taken.

Downloading from Google Takeout to a Desktop was a much better option because it does look like you can only download up to 720p from the youtube app.

I was just checking my google drive and I noticed that my photos are using soace although I have set "Backup and Sync" to high-quality ulimited storage , and when I further investigated , I found that the "Google photos " file in drive isn't taking any space .
That's really weird and i don't get what is the problem

Hi Mohamad

At first glance, I'm not sure what is causing the discrepancy.

If you are sure you only want images stored at High Quality, you can see if you can recover any remaining storage from other images that might be causing this symptom.

From a web browser (not mobile)
1. Go to Photos.Google.com
2. Go to Left Menu > Settings
3. Select Recover Storage

Read the message alert and decide if you want to compress any remaining full size images.  This should change any full size images to compressed quality.

Once that is done, give Drive 24-48 hours to fully recognize the change. (And maybe refresh the browser window to trigger any display update.)

You may want to double check your trash in both Photos and Drive to see if any full size images remain. Review the contents of trash first and then once you decide you can delete them (and not have the ability to recovery them), then empty trash.  Remember, once trash is deleted your items are gone, so make sure you want to delete them.
