I need to recover permanently deleted pictures

Deleted Photos are stored in Trash for up to 60 days, if you delete Photos again from trash, that's two times deletion.

Unfortunately, once Photos are deleted from trash there is no way to retrieve them back :(

Question: How do I add shared photos to my library?

My friend shared an album with me and I want to add those photos onto my library. How do I do this.

Hi, jp

Welcome to Google Photos Community Support Forum & thanks for your query.

Open the album through the sharing tab. There, you will find a "Save" option. Tap on that.
However, once done, the pics will occupy space in your account.

Answer:

Hi, jp

Welcome to Google Photos Community Support Forum & thanks for your query.

However, did you archive te pics?
Or put into locked folder?
Or deleted those inadvertently?

Answer:

jp
Saved photos should be in the "Photos" tab, but may be hard to find when they are not recent and thus not on top. Newly saved photos are on top in "Recently added", now found under "Explore" in the web app (on mobile it's under Search).
You can also save selected photos directly to a new or existing album, which has the advantage that they are more easily found.

I'm unable to open photo book drafts I've been editing earlier (drafts that 3 people have spent about 7 hours editing).

When clicking on them I get the error (in Swedish): "Fel när utkastet skulle öppnas". (Error when opening draft).  Trying in the Google Photos App for iOS I get a similar message.

Creating a new photo book works, and I can open drafts of newly created books, but not ones I've edited last week or earlier.

Question: Change date

How could I change the date of the image?

Hi, Gleb Philin

Welcome to Google Photos Community Support Forum & thanks for your query.

The below is the text appearing on the official help page.

You can change the date and time stamps for photos and videos using a computer.
When you change the date and time of your photo, the edited date and time will appear in Google Photos. But if you share it with other apps or download it, it may show the original date and time saved by your camera.
  1. On your computer, go to photos.google.com.
  2. Place your cursor over a photo or video. To select the items you want to update, click Select.
  3. At the top right, click More.
  4. Click Edit date & time. For multiple selections, you will see two options:-
    • To specify a date and time for the first item and automatically adjust the dates and times for the other pics relative to that, click Shift dates & times.
    • To set the date and time for all the selected items, click Set one date & time.
  1. Follow the instructions to finish.
However, the modified date will remain on the cloud only. If you download the picture, that will show the original date or no date.

Hi, Megha Raghuwanshi

Regretfully, Google Photos app doesn't support captions.

However, if you turn on "Live captions" through the accessibility menu on your phone, you will start seeing captions.

Answer:

If you mean text added to and shown with an image: Google calls that "Description".  You can add a "Description" to a photo in the info panel. That "Description" is only saved in Google's database, not added to the photo, and lost when the photo is downloaded.

@Varun
This problem already was escalated months agoo already, but apparently not solved for everyone.
The app on my Samsung with Android-11 just got upgraded to version 5.61 and I checked the saving-problem again.
  1. With backup off you only can save a copy in the camerafolder, but that can be expected.

  2. With backup on you can save and then you have to give permission for some change, but that permission is rejected, so nothing happens.

  3. With backup on, but the original removed from the camerafolder, you can save as usual and then only the cloud-version is changed and that change can be undone.
Can you verify these finding before I re-escalate the problem again, assuming the normal situation that your (recent) originals are still in local memory (not on some sd).

what happened is that a friend signed out of his google account and lost all pictures on his phone. Google Photos showed "back up complete" before the account was signed out.

When we signed back into his google account, nothing was there. We suspect there was an old account logged into this phone but he cannot remember what it was as it could be from years ago.

Any ideas how we find these missing photos?? Are the gone??

Hello Douglas,

Regretfully, Google Photos app doesn't control any safe mode feature.

Possibly, you activated that through some combination of the power & volume key.
The safe mode become useful when you suspect of some malware in your phone.

However, to come out of the safe mode, you will have to look into the documentation provided by your phone's manufacturer.

When i delete any photo in google photos app, that photo is automatically deleted in gallery.

Answer:

Hi, Chinmayi Viswanatha

Welcome to Google Photos Community Support Forum & thanks for your query.

When you delete a photo either through the gallery of Google Photos or on the cloud, the sync function will replicate that action everywhere.

Nevertheless, to remove pics from the phone gallery but retain the copies in Google Photos is relatively simple.

To do so, tap on the photo you want to remove & then slide up.
Below the photo, if you find the text "Delete from device", then tap on that.
If not, the photo is not there on the cloud & you need to upload that first.

If you want to take the same action in bulk, use the option "Free up space".
Then, the app backs up everything first & removes the originals from the device.

However, once the backup & sync is on, never delete the pics directly. Else, because of the sync action, you will lose both the one on the phone and the cloud simultaneously.

Answer:

I selected a photo and clicked delete from this device but again it is even getting deleted in gallery

Welcome to Google Photos Community Support Forum & thanks for your query.

Can you try to do so through another route? Please enter the link https://photos.google.com in any of the web browsers available on your phone. Log into your account & then see whether the photo you deleted from the device is still visible there?

Answer:

I opened the link and deleted a photo, when I opened gallery that same picture was deleted automatically because I deleted in Google photos.

Please suggest any other method

Answer:

Hi,  Chinmayi Viswanatha

Thanks for your reply

When you are deleting a picture through the web link, you are directly accessing the cloud storage.
Then, the Sync function will delete the content from your phone also.

When you open the picture through the Google Photos app, slide that up & then tap on the option
"Delete from device", which will remove the pic from your phone, including your galley. However, the backed up copy will continue to be there on the cloud.

Nevertheless, I suggest you go through the entire following content to understand the implications of deleting a picture when the backup & sync is on.

  1. Delete your phone but not from the cloud.
To do so, tap on the photo you want to remove & then slide up.
Below the photo, if you find the text "Delete from device", then tap on that.
If not, the photo is not there on the cloud & you need to upload that first.

However, once the backup & sync is on, never delete the pics directly. Else, because of the sync action, you will lose both the one on the phone and the cloud simultaneously.

2. To understand the nuances of deleting pics on the cloud but retaining the one on the phone, I suggest you go through this article.

By the way, the phone storage includes the gallery also.
