Viewing "captions" is still not possible - even in 2019, so you should your voice via the feedback option in the main menu of https://photos.google.com

But in normal viewing, the captions perfectly are visible like shown below - also for the shared viewers:

On the web when a start picture is opened and one moves to the next one with the arrow or the mouse.

And on mobile in the Google Photos app when a picture is moved-up a bit with your fingertip.

However: captions typed on GP are not saved in the metadata of individual files, thus get lost when viewer download to computer - but almost nobody is doing that nowadays - too much work :-)

No, if you really have a terabyte of photos, I would expect it to take many days (I have not shared a large partner account in more than 2 years so maybe this has changed).

If the photos are "Added to Library" in the personal account and visible at https://photos.google.com/u/0/ and all videos are visible are correct resolution, you should be okay. However, wait for awhile when you think it is complete for an extra margin of safety.

Really, you should never keep important images and videos in a single format / tool. My important images are in Google Photos, on my computer, and on multiple USB drives.

Quite possible if you have accepted the Google compression to high quality in your backupsettings, because up to June 1such uploads are not counted. So you may have used 1 GB for Gmails.

You should do nothing - high quality = high quality and nothing will get deleted by Google.

But after June 1 new uploads in high quality also will get counted, but slowly.

So you may need to start paying for more space somewhere in 2022/2023.

PS: deleting in Google-app also will delete your originals on phone - so better to copy these to pc via usb if you want to keep an additional backup in original quality.

I have 2TB of space and it is not a problem for me that photos in Drive and Photos will count twice.

That simply is impossible, also because of selecting bulks on Drive is hopeless and you can't select multiple folders either - not even one - so a stupid system.

I would suggest to check what you can do with a cloudtransferservice called Multcloud.

I have no personal experience with it, but if you are lucky it also creates albums on Photos with the same names as your folders.

Don't know if the service is for free with your amount of GB's.

When you say brightness do you mean the pop up that asks if you want to brighten up your photos? If so that doesn't apply that filter until you choose it.

If you mean when you view your photos in Google Photos, the app makes your photos darker, then that's a different issue.

Hi, I have a recurring issue with Google Photos on my Galaxy S9+. I use a 256GB SD Card.

When running photos for the first time, it would always get stuck on 'Getting Photos' seemingly forever. If I eject the SD card from my s9+, downloading photos works fine. Then I put the SD card back in, take some pics, and now it gets stuck on 'Backing Up'. I then formatted my SD card and left it empty. The same photos now started to back up fine. I started copying all my files back the SD card, and then the problem reoccurred with Photos getting stuck on 'Backing Up'. So I emptied the SD card again, and the issue was resolved again. This time, I copied one 6GB mp4 file to the SD card, and the problem occurred again! So now, we've tracked it down to the presence of a large video file on the SD card. What irks me, is that this video file lives in a folder on the SD card which Google Photos is told to ignore (i.e. 'not sync') and yet this issue occurs. It seems that this file is being scanned despite the settings in the app. This process could perhaps complete (eventually) as I note that during this process, the battery on my phone begins to drop more rapidly than usual. But that is also perhaps subjective.

What is ironclad though, is that there is some kind of issue relating to having large files on the SD card in folders that should be being ignored by the backup/sync process as per the settings in the Google Photos application but instead they are impacting the situation and breaking the backup/sync process.

I would be grateful for a fix!

Update: The recent Google Photos Update (3.19.0) did not resolve this issue.

I've noticed that when dropping smaller files on the SD card, one by one, that the Photos app does 'scan' these files even though they are in folders that Photos should be ignoring.

In this scenario, dropping a 1GB file saw the Photos app 'lock up' for some time. Here's what I did. I took a photo, then opened the Photos app and then watched the upload the photo immediately and saw that status 'Backup Complete', all in about 15 seconds. Then, I dropped a 1GB video file on the SD card. I then took another photo, and then quickly opened the Photos app. This time, the app sat there spinning the wheels saying '1 Photo left to backup' and remained on that status for a long time. During this time, my phone's CPU usage went up considerably, my battery started draining more quickly, and my phone become pretty unresponsive. Eventually, after 10 minutes or so, Photos finished 'scanning' the 1GB file it should have been ignoring, and then finally backed up the last photo I took. Dropping several GB of video files on the SD card would cause this process to literally take HOURS, and will absolutely bring the device to a crawl while doing so. It's not like it uses all the CPU, but it uses enough to introduce a 1 second delay in pretty much everything I want to do with the phone.
