To assist you better, please let me know how exactly are you trying to upload the photos? Directly or via the Backup and Sync tool? Also, check if you're facing the same issue while uploading/backing up via the Google Photos App?

Meanwhile, as your photos aren't being saved/uploaded to your Google Photos account, try checking your backup status:

Open the Google Photos app on your mobile device .
At the top left, touch the menu icon > Assistant.
Read the first card. If it says:

"Waiting for connection" or "Waiting for Wi-Fi": You need to either change your settings or connect to a Wi-Fi or mobile network. Touch the card to change your settings.
"Back up & sync is off": Touch "TURN ON" on the card to back up your device's photos and videos, including ones you capture in the future.
"A photo or video was skipped": A photo or video on your mobile device doesn't meet our upload requirements:
- Photos can't exceed 75MB or 100 megapixels
- Videos can't exceed 10GB
"Backing up photos" or "Backup complete": This means your photos and videos should be saved.

Just a heads up: Photos and videos that aren't backed up will have this cloud icon

or circular-arrow icon based on the version of Google Photos App on your phone.

If you're still facing the issue, try the steps from this "My photos aren't being backed up" help center article.

Also, I'd recommend you try restart your computer first. It might sound simple, but sometimes that's all it takes to fix the issue. Incase if you've uploaded through the Backup and Sync tool, I'd suggest you try uninstalling and reinstalling the Backup and Sync tool.

I do understand the inconvenience as you're unable to play the video and the audio together in the Google Photos. Therefore, I recommend trying the steps below in sequence, this may help in fixing the issue:

Make sure your device is up-to-date.
Make sure the App is up-to-date.
Try restarting the App through the following steps:

Go to your App Settings.
Click stop on the afflicted App with the Force Stop button.
Wait a few seconds to make sure the App has stopped processing, and then attempt to re-start it.

Close the background running apps through the following steps:

Go to your App Settings.
Display the Active Apps on your device.
Select the App you wish to close and Force Stop it.
Repeat this step with all active Apps.

Try clearing your App cache through the following steps:

Tap the system Settings tab on the main screen of your device.
Tap the General section of settings that is on the far right.
Tap Storage in the General tab.
Clear the cache data once storage calculates the data.
Back out of the storage section.
Tap Applications and find the application in question.
Tap the application and clear the cache (if available).
Clear the data for the application if there is no cache to clear.

Usually, I do not delete any photos.
Backup and sync are permanently on & every photo I click would be there on the cloud instantly through a 4G LTE connection.
I use the free up space option regularly & do not accumulate that to become unmanageable.
Before using the free up space option, I connect my phone to a desktop PC & copy the content on the hard disk.

With that due diligence, I have never faced any problem to date.

(However, there are some exceptions. The social media apps tend to hide the folders in library view.)

Unfortunately, images that are deleted from Trash (or left there more than 60 days) are not recoverable. So check Trash if you have not already done so, but otherwise, I'm sorry that there is no solution within Google Photos. So you still maybe able to download all to your computer via Take-out.

Since Google started charging for newly stored images it offers a service of identifying poor images that you might want to delete. My guess is that you are viewing images that this service highlights for you and that there are good versions of these images still in your Photos Library.

To test this, close out of Google Photos, then go back in and select the Photos tab. Then look for images taken around the time of some of the damaged images and see if good versions appear there.

To assist you better, could you please confirm if the photos were deleted from the phone gallery or Google Photos? Are you trying to restore them? Also, please confirm if the photos were backed up to the Google Photos.

If you've deleted them from your device and if the photos and videos aren't backed up to your Google Photos account, unfortunately, there isn't a way to retrieve them.

Incase if the photos are backed to Google Photos and if you've deleted them accidentally from the Google Photos then it will deleted from your phone also. If you have back up & sync on, photos and videos you delete will stay in your trash for 60 days. You can recover deleted items by following the below steps:

On your Android phone or tablet, open the Google Photos app .
At the top left, tap Menu , then Trash.
Touch and hold the photo or video you want to recover.
At the top right, tap Restore . That photo or video will be restored to your Google Photos library and added back into any albums it was in.

Incase, if you're unable to restore from the Google Photos, the following things could be the reasons:

Photos and Videos moved to trash more than 60 days ago.
Photos and Videos moved to trash, then emptied your trash.
Photos and Videos moved to trash permanently deleted from your trash.

Also, I'd recommend you look for your photos here, signing in with all your Google accounts if you have more than one:

Actually, you can do this, though you may have to look through a lot of images to accomplish your task. Here is what to do:

Open Google Photos App on your phone.
Select Search.
Select View All at the right hand side of the screen near the row of People at the top.
As faces appear, select Same, Different, or Not Sure, as appropriate for each image (which will prompt the next image).

Odds are that your new phone is not set to automatically backup images. To correct this:

Open the Google Photos App on your phone.
Select circular icon of your profile picture (or letter) in upper-right corner of screen.

It's possible that resetting your Account in the App will fix this problem. You can try the following:

Open Google Photos App on your phone.
Tap the icon with your image (or initial) in upper right of screen.
Tap on your email address.
Select Use Without an Account
Power off your phone and power it back on.
Repeat Steps 1 - 3 above but now choose to Add an account and sign back into your original account.
Go back to Settings and be sure Backup & Sync is toggled on, then wait an hour or so and see if the backup starts to work in the background.
