Hello, is it true that if I speak to a Google representative, they can recover perm. deleted photos?

Question: Hello, is it true that if I speak to a Google representative, they can recover perm. deleted photos?

I have tried to recover them through the trash and also downloading disk digger.

Hi,
If you have a question about recovering deleted photos/videos on Google Photos :

Please check in the Google Photos trash, maybe there are the photos/videos you are looking for. (Open Google Photos --> Trash)
If the photos/videos are permanently deleted, I think you cannot restore them.

Regards,

I thought I'd posted this earlier, but now, I can't find it. Apologies if this is a duplicate post.

I've got Backup and Synch set to ignore Photoshop ".psd" files.

my ignore settings

But under the menu icon for B&S, there's a persistent complaint that some files cannot be converted to "high quality"  - that's ok, I don't want my photoshop or .SRW files synched or converted.

Menu bar message

And the list of files under "View Items

Lists all the .psd's that it's supposed to be ignoring.

Finally, it looks like I'm NOT using 7.5 GB for those files, as my Drive shows only 3.2 GB used

Maybe in fact, there is no problem here, but I would like to clear that message.

Thanks all, and hi Pete! I bet it will be you responding!
Best,
Lance

Answer:

I'm fairly sure you can clear those by de-selecting the chosen folder, search for the psd files in Drive and delete, then choose the folder again.

Answer:

Hi Peter,

Yeah, that error message is just sort of stuck there from before I made the .psd exclusion setting. As indicated by the low storage usage on my account, those 7.5GB of .psds are not actually being uploaded. But good idea to search for them, screenshot below shows the results (none pretty much). There's also no mirror of my Google Photos library in Drive, and that's correct. I know I made that setting somewhere.

I think now that this is just another software re-start situation. I'll quit B&S, relaunch, and report back.

Best
Lance

(I guess there are .psds inside that .zip file. Impressive searching!)

Answer:

Quitting and restarting B&S did not clear the message. Rats.

As an aside - each time I use my camera, I transfer the images to one of these two image folders on my hard drive. Once in a while, I'll do some photoshop work on an image, and I'll save the .psd to the same location. B&S is correct in seeing that there are .psds in the folder, but it's not responding to my "ignore" setting, and it's erroneously reporting that the files have been uploaded to Drive.

I guess I'll have to ignore the message. I know Google irons these things out over time. Ain't no thang!

Thanks Peter!
Lance

Answer:

I don't understand that, not sure if quitting and restarting is the same as disconnecting the folder, then reconnecting it.  There is also the possibility that the old psd files are in the trash, I tried the scenario and had to empty the trash before the message disappeared..

Answer:

Peter - working through the disconnect / reconnect process. Allowing a little time for B&S to catch up between actions. Seems promising - will report back.  - Lance

Question: How do I Delete All of my Google Photo's?

The Shift, Select All, and similar options.

There is no "Select all". You can only delete by selecting batches of max. 500.

Answer:

This is the worst thing about Photos.. Even when taking the crappy desktop "Backup & Sync" app, the slow ass uploads, the insane hoops you have to jump through to get your images on here, this is the worst by far!

Answer:

In fact, this is such a bullshit feature, even the Google Photos API documentation says NOTHING about deleting images, all you can do is create and share.. What kind of an API deliberately omits a delete function. I've uploaded 250GB of images and now I have to go through and delete them all manually. Just what I wanted to spend the next 12 months doing!

Answer:

I'm with Rabbie on this one. Very shortsighted or deliberately done? Either way, a massiev waste of time. I didnt even realise my photos were uploading to the cloud..

Answer:

This is a shockingly bad UI. Add to this that by default the "Backup and Sync" application just syncs everything from photos -- including thumbnails! -- and there's really no good way to deal with this garbage.

@User 13...
If you would have removed your account from the old app before deleting all, you would see back these photos in the new app if logged-in with the same account as used in the past.
So hopefully you did not empty the trash in the Google Photos app, because then a lot can be recovered.
If they ever have been stored at Google - probably you never have checked that on photos.google.com
We can do no more then telling this.

Question: My photoi deletdon february 2018

Please help me get my photo back in Alabama

Hi Laurie,

Thank you for stopping by the Google Photos Help Forum.

Could you please confirm if you're trying to restore some photos? If yes, please check if the photos are present in the Trash of Google Photos? If yes, please restore them through the below steps:
  • On your Android phone or tablet, open the Google Photos app .
  • At the top left, tap Menu.
  • Click on Trash.
  • Touch and hold the photo or video you want to recover.
  • At the bottom, tap Restore. The photo or video will be back:
    • In your phone.
    • Into the "Photos" section of the app.
    • Into any albums it was in.
But if you've already deleted the photos from the Trash from your Google Photos, there is no other way to restorethem.

That being said, if you would like to see this feature implemented in the future, I recommend leaving feedback about it through the following steps:
  • Open Google Photos.
  • Click on Menu.
  • Select Send feedback.
  • Click on Send.
The product team reviews the feedback regularly and uses it to better improve the product overtime.

Let me know if you have any other questions.

Best,
Emma

You may have wrong ideas about resolution.
So came back with more details - else we can't help.

Question: How to reduce byte size for upload to another site

Trying to upload to airbnb . byte size too big

Hi, Bruce Nelson 9330

Welcome to Google Photos Community Support Forum & thanks for your query.

To reduce the photo size, you can do so through these two options in Google Photos.
  • Upload the picture in high quality. That will produce some size reduction.
  • Crop the pic to remove unwanted portions from the borders. That will give further sizer reduction.
Still, if you wish to have some more reduction, then please use another app "Snap seed" by Google.
Once installed, the editor in Google Photos shows that option through "More".

In the settings of Snap seed, you can do image resizing within a range from 4000 px to 800 px. Additionally, you can choose JPEG compression ranging from 95% to 85%
A combination of both options would resize the file to the desired number.

Plzz help me someone has deleted some pictures and videos from my Google photo on 13 or 14 june plzz…

Hello Shraddha ,

If you have uploaded photos on google photos and deleted it please take a look at the below info.

Following is text from the official Google Photos Help page about deleting and restoring photos and videos:

Restore photos & videos
If you deleted an item and want it back, check your trash to see if it’s there.
  1. On your Android phone or tablet, open the Google Photos app .
  2. At the bottom, tap Library  Trash .
  3. Touch and hold the photo or video you want to restore.
  4. At the bottom, tap Restore. The photo or video will be back:
    • In your phone’s gallery app
    • In your Google Photos library
    • In any albums it was in
If the item is not in your trash, it may be permanently deleted.
    Important:
    • If you delete a photo or video that’s backed up in Google Photos, it will stay in your trash for 60 days.
    • If you delete an item from your Android device without it being backed up, it will stay in your trash for 60 days.
    • If you see a photo or video in Google Photos that you think you deleted, it might be on a removable memory card. To delete it, use your device’s gallery app.
    Empty your trash
If you see a request to "Delete permanently" when you try to move an item to trash, your trash is full. Your trash can hold 1.5GB.

Important: If you empty your trash, you permanently delete any items in your trash.

Don't see the photo or video?
If a deleted photo or video isn't in trash, you can’t restore it. You won't be able to restore a photo if:
    • You moved it to trash more than 60 days ago.
    • You moved it to trash, then emptied your trash.
    • You permanently deleted it from your trash.
    • You permanently deleted it from your device’s Gallery app, without backing it up first.
When you attempt to manually empty the trash bin in Google Photos, a warning message box appears that explains you are about to permanently delete those pictures and videos. If you choose to proceed anyway, there is nothing that any of the volunteers in this forum can do to help you recover your pictures.

The information on the following Google Photos Help pages will help you become more familiar with finding, deleting, and restoring your pictures:

If you deleted pictures or videos that were not previously backed up to your account through the Google Photos app, then unfortunately there's nothing that Google or any of the volunteers in this Help Community can do to recover them.

Files that existed only on your phone, ones that were never uploaded to the cloud, cannot be recovered or restored by a cloud storage service. Simply put, Google can't help you recover files it never had in the first place.

    Thanks.

I am trying to backup my phone's data in my Google account as I have purchased Google one subscription. The backup of photos and videos stops as soon as I put the Google photos app in the background and use another app.
What do I do to keep the photos and videos uploading and keep the Google photos app in the background?

    Answer:

In the general settings for apps choose Photos and look at Battery - there you can switch-on background operation. Perhaps your problem is solved then.
But if your foreground operations also require a lot of data traffic then it becomes like dogs fighting on the same bone.

    Question: Photo into email

Hoe do I get my photos from google photos into an email?

    @Joan
Quit simple: select a few, hit the upload icon, then select Share with and select your Mail-app (Gmail or Apple mail).
But via both mailers the exif-data get lost like with Whatsapp - so I need to find out a better method.

    Answer:

    @Joan
The only good way is by downloading the selected pictures to your phone and then attach them at full size via the paperclip in Apple Mail - then all data and quality is retained, but Apple creates stupid filenames like image0.jpg etc. Like Google they never learn.
When sending via Gmail all data is lost, but not the original filenames.
Best to share via Google Photos directly, but that can be too uncomfortable for old receivers.

If you deleted them by mistake you can always restore them from the Trash folder within those 60 days. Here's the link explaining how to recover them from Trash. If you have more than one Google account, check the trash for all of them.

If you accessed the Trash and manually sent the photos for permanent deletion, or if the 60 days expired, there is no way to recover them from Google Photos

Be aware that for viewing pictures which are not on phone anymore, you need to have wifi or access to your mobile data network to view Google Photos correctly.

    Answer:

If the original picture is deleted, you are fully dependant on the quality at Google and then you should look to the technical data about the resolution below the picture.
Normally the quality on Google Photos is very good, so you may have done something wrong, like too much cropping, or you are looking to a face-picture which is fact a very small part of complete picture.

If you have the phone in your possession, go into the Google Photos app, tap the profile icon in the upper right hand corner, then tap the ~caret~ to the right of your name to expose "Manage accounts on this device" and tap it.. Then tap "Remove from this device".

If you don't have the phone in your possession, see info at:

It is always a good idea to store important images in more than one place / tool.
Using ~iCloud Photos~ and Google Photos at the same time is dangerous (they use different architectural approaches).   Don't delete any important images in Google Photos until you have confirmed that changes are not synching to your phone. Remember, you can always copy images from an iPhone (or Android) to a computer using the appropriate USB cable.
My photos are in Google Photos, on my laptop, and on multiple external disk drives (not connected to any computer or network).

Best regards,   Dougsap (volunteer Google Photos user)

I just saw that I have 11 photos to public 1 untitled and 30 to sign in .What does it mean I haven't shared anything yet just uploaded some photos to google photos and some in Places in Gmaps

    Answer:

Hi, public photos are typically Profile photos or photo shared with another app like Blogger or Google+ etc.  You will see if any of there are involved at  https://get.google.com/albumarchive

To see exactly which photos they are more easily, copy the URL then open an incognito or new private window on your browser, don't log in, just paste the URL into the address bar and you will see only the Public photos.

    Regards,

    Peter

Question: Download my photos to a computer, windows not chrome. Need directions please, not paying for storage

Want to download my photos to my computer to transfer to flash drive.

    Hello T G 2504,

Go to Google Dashboard and expand the Photos tab then left click on the 3 dots and select Download data. If you wait a minute until 'All photos albums included' pops up then click on it and deselect all.
    See screenshots online.
Then scroll down and select all the year albums Photos from 2020 etc, or any Albums you have created

You will now get a single copy of each photo, one json file per photo, and one filename-edited.jpg for each edited photo.

Unfortunately there is no easy way to use the json files without specialist software so they can be safely deleted.

    Regards,

    Answer:

What exactly do you mean by "Unfortunately there is no easy way to use the json files without specialist software so they can be safely deleted.
After I download them I will have to download additional software to view them? Could you explain this further?

    Answer:

My download created exports. I started to download this exports and now they are stating messages that I need authorization in my download bracket. I am using windows 10 and followed the exact directions so far.

    Answer:

Do you have a screenshot of the message, you can use the paperclip to select a screenshot from the computer. To create one hold the Windows key down on your keyboard and press the Print Screen key. They are normally saved in your Pictures library under Screenshots
