Nevertheless, when you tap the delete icon in the Google Photos app, a warning appears telling you what will happen if you proceed. On your phone, that message asks, "Remove from Google account & synced devices?"

When you attempt to manually empty the trash/bin in Google Photos, another warning appears that explains the consequences of permanently deleting those pictures and videos.
If you choose to proceed anyway, there is nothing that any of the volunteers in this forum can do to help you recover your pictures.

However, you may install to your Android device a deleted photo recovery app (be sure to not pick one that requires rooting) https://play.google.com/store/search?q=recover%20deleted%20photos&c=apps;

and run a scan for anything to recover.

IF there is a way to to identify the images not in your personal account, then put them in an album (or Albums if you hit a limit or want to group them) in your school account. Then share that album with your personal account, then "Add to library" in your personal account - this does NOT add them to you device but does add them to your Google Photos in the cloud.

You MAY be able to use Partner Sharing from your school account to your personal account, but you also may not be able to depending on the settings controlled by the school's ~Google Administrator~.. This also could take multiple days or more than a week to complete (depending on the number of photos) - also I don't know what impact this might have on your Google storage quota for previously uploaded images (High quality images backed up prior to June 1, 2021 did not count against the storage quota).

Whatever you are going to do, don't delay.. If your account is deleted before you get everything, you might experience some serious pain.

It is always a good idea to store important images in more than one place / tool. My photos are in Google Photos, on my laptop, and on multiple external disk drives (not connected to any computer or network).

The above implication of the storage changes was not clear to me. If it had been I would have converted to 'high quality' and worked within the new 15GB limit for other photos. Now my account is of no use for future back-up, and I need to consider other options.

If you are sure that you want to compress your photos and have not already done so, try going to the following and "Recover storage". Preferably after backing up your original images someplace else.

There have been some reports of this working successfully for old images by some people since June 1. However, I have no way of testing this, and if it does work it might not be immediately obvious.

I did try it and it took the best part of a day (to reduce from around 448GB to 117GB - but it seems that I will not get to the position I would have been if I had done this before 2 June (and will have to move away from Google).

(Fully agree on alternative back-ups - laptop, external hard drive, CDRs; do they make laptops with CD drives now?)

If you only did "Recover storage" once, it might be worth trying it one more time - the chances are probably small, but it might find some additional files..

There are, but honestly I personally would rank internal optical storage on a laptop fairly low (but everybody is different).. I am trying to hold off for 6 months and see what new laptops come out which natively support Windows 11.

You might consider a NAS, but honestly, once you buy the enclosure and and drives (and capabilities for offsite storage - for fire, theft, explosion, etc.) you could pay for many years of Google One Storage.

Changing the backup quality does not delete anything at Google, but the app starts checking if everything is there. So look on photos.google.com in the Chromebrowser to see what you have at Google now and then come back to report.

Albums in the Samsung Gallery are not seen outside that Gallery and they get lost when you need to change to an new phone or wehn you need to make space.

So it is more wise to make webalbums in the Library-page of the Google Photos app, because these will survive and can be shared and viewed via Chromecast. They don't take additional space in your account because they only contain references to the mainstream on the Photos-page.

It is not clear if the crashing is caused by some safety setting in the S20 to prevent accidental deletions.

So it is hard to give a solution.

But in fact you don't need the free-up solution because you can use the Google Files app for deleting the oldest pictures every new month. Just to have your recent pictures at hand in your Samsung Gallery for all social media activities.

Step 1 - Get into the old account.

Step 2 - ~Copy~ the photos from the old account to the new account. There are several ways to do this, but don't worry about it until you finish Step 1.

We are volunteers here and don't have access to personal information such as email addresses, etc.

Step 1

The only real solution, is to try harder to reset the account password on the old account. Try multiple times, try various possible recovery emails.

Might you have saved the password for that account on the computer?

Note: Some of the password recovery options are more lenient if you perform them from an IP address (location) where you have recently (or in the past) accessed the internet from the account whose password you forgot.

This seems to be the most comprehensive source of data on recovery of Gmail addresses.

Many users are disgruntled about photos being copied to albums rather than moved from the photo view to the album. Fortunately, the archive function does hide photos from the photo view page, which helps somewhat to organize the photo library. However, one largely stated complaint I keep running across is that you can't see which photos have been already been moved to album, unless you open each picture individually to see the notes, which is basically a totally useless fix (this should be a hover function, or some type of icon or marking viewable from the photo view page).

However, if there was an auto-archive option, which could be set in settings, or even a pop up question when you create a album: would you like to move these photos to archive? That would eliminate both problems of pictures remaining duplicated and visible in photos view, AND trying to weed back through the library to find each of the pictures again to manually archive them.

Those photos (like all others) are private till you share them.

Had you backed up the pics to Google Photos?

Can you please verify that by visiting the link https://photos.google.com ?

Enter the link in any browser on your phone & then log into your Google account to view the photos backed up on Cloud.

If you do not find anything, then there are two possibilities.

Either, the items have moved to the bin.

The Bin icon

becomes visible through the library view in the phone app.

Tap on the icon & then restore everything visible there.

Or, your backup was incomplete, so nothing got uploaded to the cloud.

The Google Photos app acts like a portal viewer showing everything from our phone and also the content backed up to the cloud,

Then, that creates a impression of everything getting backed up perfectly.

However, we need to check the status of backup periodically and look for the messages on "Backup and Sync" menu.

Further, we have to ensure every folder on our device is included in the backup & none shows a cloud symbol with slash.

If nothing was backed up to the cloud in the first place, regretfully, there is no way to recover those pics through Google Photos.

You still may have too less free space on your phone, maybe because it is an old one or due to shooting movies without be aware that these take enormous amounts of bytes.
