I don't think that there is a perfect solution for you (other than editing screenshots or not letting people watch over your shoulder). However, the following might help if you want to eliminated specific contacts from being displayed.

Change who's saved & suggested as contacts

Sign in to Google Contacts.
On the left, select Other contacts.
Click or tap a contact.
From here you can:
- Change info: On the top right, select Add to contacts . Make the changes you want. At the bottom, select Save.
- Remove a contact: On the top right, select More Delete. To stop them from getting added back, follow the steps to stop saving automatically.

Had you backed up the pics to Google Photos?

Can you please verify that by visiting the link https://photos.google.com ?

Enter the link in any browser on your phone & then log into your Google account to view the photos backed up on Cloud.

If you do not find anything, then there are two possibilities.

Either, the items have moved to the bin.

The Bin icon

becomes visible through the library view in the phone app.

Tap on the icon & then restore everything visible there.

Or, your backup was incomplete, so nothing got uploaded to the cloud.

The Google Photos app acts like a portal viewer showing everything from our phone and also the content backed up to the cloud,

Then, that creates a impression of everything getting backed up perfectly.

However, we need to check the status of backup periodically and look for the messages on "Backup and Sync" menu.

Further, we have to ensure every folder on our device is included in the backup & none shows a cloud symbol with slash.

If nothing was backed up to the cloud in the first place, regretfully, there is no way to recover those pics through Google Photos.

First of you should check the Trash; any photos that were previously backed up and deleted less than 60 days ago will be in there.

Once you delete them from the trash they are permanently deleted; they are only recoverable in 60 days if they are still in the trash.

You could try using a third party photo recovery app at this point to try to recover some of what was lost from your phone - just type photo recovery into the play store and see what options are available.

I see the same issue. I created a movie on my Samsung Galaxy S8 using Google Photos. I was able to edit which images and how long they would appear in the animation. I then modified the theme music and hit save. It then spun for a couple of seconds then disappeared. I waited for 10 minutes and I couldn't find it. After an hour I went back and created another movie (following the same steps) and had the same result. I can't find either movie I created in Google Photos or anywhere in my storage on my phone. Are there any workarounds? It appears this same issue is happening to other people as well.

Not sure if this will help or not. I created a movie using the Google photos Android app. After making the edits and pressing save, I saw the looping arrow, which I figured it was saving. On my phone I couldn't find the movie.

I went to photos.google.com and looked at the different albums (people, places, etc) and noticed it had movies folder. I went in to that and saw my newly created movie was in there, but being rendered. Later, I was able to download the video file

I just stumbled upon the exact same issue and found the solution... Apparently the video is created under Videos, BUT its date is according to the *latest photo in the video's date*, and not when you created the video.

So for example if you created a video out of photos where rhe latest one was created on November 2015, that's where and when you will find it

I assume that you used Google Takeout to download photos/videos from Google Photos. There are some limitations on how many you can ask or download. Let us know when anything changes. We can only learn from each other.

I am trying to explain the steps as below.

Still, I suggest, please take help of someone who uses the computer routinely.

On a computer, go to photos.google.com.
Open the photo you want to edit.
At the top right, click Edit . Tip: While you edit, click and hold the photo to compare your edits to the original.
To crop , click on . To crop the photo, drag the edges with the mouse.
Once you achieve the desired size reduction, click done. The menu Done will appear once again. Click on that once again. Then, the modified picture will save automatically.

Are you trying to recover some space on Google drive?

Otherwise, once we delete something, the content stays in the bin for sixty days, which gives us a chance to review our decision during that period.

That looks like a corrupt photo, one of the risks with digital photos. I have had some (not many) in my own master collection on a computer, but I had backups.

I would say: of course. Not necessarily a disk, it can be anything which is not synced with or on the same device as the original collection, like another cloud collection.

Seriously, I did not uploaded 17.06 whithin June. The calculation is obviously WRONG. How to fix it?

Storage may be reduced by going to https://photos.google.com/settings and using the Recover storage option.

Head over to https://photos.google.com/quotamanagement This should give a clue on where the storage is being used. Large photos and videos >5MB are listed and can be reviewed by tapping on the thumbnail to open then select the (i)nfo icon to see more detail about files.

If you need to subscribe to Google One you can Create a family group then share the storage between members and it can be used in addition to their own 15GB

Thank you very much for your quick and detailed reply. It's really appreciated.

However, this will be a rather bug than a real problem with the used capacity.

The setting on the phone has been always: "Storage Saver: Store more at a slightly reduced quality"
Yesterday, I tried to "compress" photos & videos to be absolutely sure that everything is in "reduced quality". It is that there was a small gain. Today, the used capacity shows 16.8 GB (yesterday it was 17.6 GB)
Quota management shows:

16.3 GB in Google Photos
536 MB in Disk + Gmail
Large photos & videos shows 8.1 GB - there are only videos ranging from 5 MB to 184 MB (only 5 videos uploaded after June 1st, in total 176 MB)

Checking for unsupported videos - no such videos
Mobile phone backup - the only information is that I've run out of capacity (16 GB of 16GB used)
Backup & Sync on the computer was used a coupe times in the past to upload family photos ("reduced" quality)

Special things about the account which might have some influence:

Partner account is set to my sister's account. My sister's acocunt and my acccount have a lot of the same photos. My sister's account shows 30 000+ photos however her capacity shows ONLY 78 MB! My sister set as a partner account my other sister's account
My daddy created a dynamic album with my photos and the album is included in my albums

Thank you for the tip to create a family group. It is very helpful and we plan to use it.

However, until I find the reason for such a huge consumption of capacity or a bug is acknowledge, I do not plan to purchase additional storage. It feels very WRONG and UNFAIR that with only dozens of photos and videos uploaded in June, I'm told that I used all the free capacity.

When you attempt to manually empty the trash/bin in Google Photos, another warning appears that explains the consequences of permanently deleting those pictures and videos.
