I literally tried al the suggestions in this forum and google photos is now working, but every time I open the app to synchronise photos it really takes upto 2 hours "getting ready to back up" 2 photos?
Surely there's something amiss but I did everything on my side to reset, clean, update etc.
So can someone have a look? Is there a place I can send a log report or something? Is it too much to expect someone to take this serious? I really am a fan, not a bitcher, I love google photos but it's now really frustrating to use if uploading doesn't work

Sorry, the Google Photos team do not provide individual user support.

You can try the following, even though you have tried everything please go through each step.

Check the app trash to make sure there are no photos and videos mistakenly deleted
- Empty the trash
tap the account icon at the top right
tap your email address and select Use without an account
Power down/up or restart the device
sign in again making sure you are using the correct email
Do not turn on Backup & sync
Wait until Getting photos has finished

Go to the Photos tab and tap to open the latest photo and look at the top right to see if there is a cloud icon indicating the photo or video is not backed up. If the cloud icon is present tap it to Backup the photo or video.

If that works, stroke from the right to check all other photos and hopefully the culprits will be found. Large videos are the worst offenders.

You can also pinch the screen to show and then select a month of photos and use the 3 dot option to Backup now. This will not upload already backed up photos. Selecting the month and the absence of the 3 dot option to Backup indicates there are no candidates in that month. Photos will skipped if they already exist online.

Once all months are clear, tap the account icon; Photos settings; Backup & sync; turn on, checking the settings are correct and using the correct email account.

Do you have any idea how long this takes? I have all my photos since 2003 in google photos, about 80GB. I am now at the step 7 after logging into my account and wait till "getting your photos" is finished. I started at 19:53. It's now 20:42 and it's still running.

It sounds like a very long time, and it is dependant on the number of photos you have and not the GB value.

If I do the same with about 20,000 photos it takes 3 or 4 minutes, so you either have a very lot or there is something wrong with the quality of the connection, or some bad files on the device which are slowing things down.

The procedure is centred around finding the 2 photos which could be causing a problem and there is no option but to be patient.

While that is going on, how many photos do you have on the device, do you have very large videos, and how much space internal memory do you have.

I think I didn't describe my problem well. Is not about 2 photos that cause an issue. My photos were 100 percent synched. But every time I make new photos, it again takes this enormous amount of time before "getting ready to backup" is finished and the photos finally are uploaded. I don't have much photos on my device at all, but my cloud has many photos. I have one large video 45 minute in my cloud, the rest is all just normal high quality photos.

Then I took a new photo with my phone. It didn't show up in Photos app .So I rebooted my phone.

I just took another photo and that also doesn't show up in the Photos app. So I think I've broken something else.

I did press the help send feedback function in the app and found the event log, I sent it, hope someone looks at it. It has a lot of criticial info, "relax Scan_REQUIRE_KNOWN" for package MUIUI player.

I don't know.... I'm a bit fed up again.

Hi Macey

Sorry to hear about the update pains. You can use the Feedback menu option under the profile icon in Photos to make a request regarding editing photos and saving a new copy vs simply having an edited version.

You could turn off automatic updates in the Play Store, uninstall Photos, reinstall it and see if it only restores the factory version before updates, if you want to try. I don't recommend this as the Play Store installs important updates including security, so why break something that works best in the background?

I don't have inside knowledge, but I wonder if the save copy of edited image was put in place to address user interest in having an original and an edited copy to compare. It sounds like it's not a good workflow for you, so do share your feedback via the app so the team can keep track of responses to changes.

As for the screenshots, I'm not having the symptom you describe. When I create a screenshot (using gesture navigation by swiping up from the bottom of the screen and selecting screenshot, or by using the power button/volume button combo), I am provided with an edit option immediately.

If this is not the case, please make sure you have installed all system updates and perhaps even restart the phone to see if symptoms improve.

Video take ugly amount of space nowadays, but if you are sure that they are backupped (=copied to Google), you can use the free-up space option under your profile in the Google app while having good wifi.

That also will delete normal pictures, so you also can restrict to deleting the oldest videos: install Google Files to do that with more ease then usual.

Always check at Google via photos.google.com before permanent actions.

Not clear what you mean with personal documents, but if they are stored on Google Drive, they always will use storage. But if these documents are picture-files (scans) and they are stored at original quality on Photos, they also will take storage like they always did.

Only uploads in high quality are not counted until June 1.

So you should change the setting under Backup and you can have the uploads compressed to high quality by pressing the Recover storage button at photos.google.com/settings for the account used in the app.

That may take a day before the counter is down to zero - check on one.google.com/storage for the same account.

I purchased cloud storage from google because I had large quantities of Word, PDF, and PowerPoint files that exceeded the basic 15gig allocation google provides. I think about 25-30 gigs worth, which is why I bought the 100 gig storage option.

Now, I'd like to back up photos that exist on my computer to google photos, in particular before the June 1st deadline. I started the process last night, uploading photos, and noticed they were eating into my 100 gig allocation. I thought this wasn't supposed to be the case before June 1st. I've not adjusted any image settings on my computer, meaning the images are whatever quality they were taken in, and the Google photos settings are at default settings.

To get these document files + pictures uploaded to Google, you need to have installed the Backup & Sync app from Google on your computer. The documentfiles will be stored on Google Drive and will take their original storage, but for the pictures you can choose between high quality (not counted if uploaded before June 1 and on a lower rate later) or original quality (fully counted always).

To do this seems highly unlikely, as it would require over a dozen or more taps on your screen in various specific places, making specific selections, and depending on how you have purchase security set up, entering your password or fingerprint to authorize. In addition, you would have received a confirmation email of the order and had two hours to cancel order.

If you live in a multiperson household, I would check to see if someone ordered without your knowledge. If you have a family group set up for approved purchases (e.g. for games, movies) that could be one source.

You can check order status

1. Open Photos

2. Select order icon in upper left

3. Scroll down to past orders and if you still have time to cancel, do so.

Finally, if you believe someone had made a purchase without your consent, you can visit this help page for further steps

If you have backed up your images, and then removed them from your phone's local storage, there is not a simple way to restore the images back to local storage.

If you only have a few images, you can open the image, swipe up to reveal menu options and choose Download option.

Otherwise, if there are a lot of images, you can use Takeout to make a ZIP file of images, download them to your computer, unzip the images, connect your phone via USB and use the file browser on your computer to manually copy images from the Takeout to your phone's local storage.

You can use the Feedback menu option under the profile icon in Google Photos to make a feature request about a reverse sync option so the team can track user interest.

You perfectly can view your images in the Photos-app in monthview or in dayview just by pinching two fingers on the screen to zoom in or out and you perfectly can share in much better quality then Whatsapp complete with comments.

But you can install the Google One app for free to get 200 recent pictures back and you will have a large amount of fresh shoots soon enough.
