Are you trying to remove pics from the "places" collection?
Regrettably, there is no such option as the photos are grouped based on the geolocation data.
If you want to remove the picture of some offending person through the "places" collection, the only option would be to delete the picture completely.

Nevertheless, if your query is for the "peoples" collection, then, it's possible to hide the person.

If the video was uploaded and then local storage cleared, you may not find the video in the Camera app.

If the video was backed up to Google Photos:

Open Google Photos
Select the Search option
Swipe down to Videos and/or Creations:Movies to see if the file is located there; OR,
After selecting Search, enter the date of the video in the search field to see if Photos can locate it by date

If you don't see the video, try going to Photos > Library > Trash to see if the file was accidentally deleted. Select the file and then RESTORE to return the file to the main stream.

Please go to https://photos.google.com/settings and use the Recover storage button to reduce the storage used to zero.

Also see the help article @Choose the upload size of your photos & videos to make sure that the upload size is set to high quality for all the options of computer and mobile,

Up until the 31st May you can Recover storage at https://photos.google.com/settings to reduce the storage used by Google Photos to zero.

The only change on June 1st that HQ uploads will use storage at a reduced size.

I did not follow everything in the document as I have more than 30,000 photos in the Google Photo folder under My Drive because it has been created many years ago when I started to use Picasa (I would say probably the week that this feature appeared).

Basically in Backup and Sync I unchecked the "Google Photos" folder under "Google Drive" so this copy (the high quality but compressed Google Photos version of my original photos) have been removed completely from my local computer. I also have been in Google Drive parameters and unchecked the "Create Google Photos folder" option. I created a new folder on my computer and I added it in Backup and Sync to synchronize photos and videos and ensured it synchronized sucessfully (without anything to sync).

Then to do a test, I removed only one month from the Google Photos folder under My Drive (using the Web interface) which contained only a few pictures and I emptied the trash, to ensure no copies are left at all in Google Drive. I moved the local folder on my computer that contained those pictures from the location synchronized by Google Photos Backup to the new folder just created and configured in Backup and Sync. I verified that the album in Google Photo that contained those pictures did not change and that the folder and the pictures have been added under "Computers" in Google Drive.

I continued with some recent pictures that were previously synchronized with Backup and Sync but deleted before to do this test. For those files that have been synchronized already with Backup and Sync, I had to remove them completely from Google Drive and Google Photos, empty the trash in both tools, and resync them by moving them to the new folder (maybe I fiddled a bit too much with the files, the folders and the settings so it created that mess). It concerned only a thousand pictures that I did not much worked on in Google Photo so I did not loose any important thing doing that.

But thanks for the document, it helped a lot to sort out what caused the problem (aka the Google Photos folder automatically created in Drive).

So the next step will be to try to do the same operation with all the folder, on by one, and the very old Picasa syncronized folders (that are still showing in sync in Picasa, even if I can't add new pictures to those albums). I guess it will take months because it seems to reprocess and resync everything, even if it was synced previously with Google Photo Backup and it is more than 30,000 pictures in 1,000 folders.

I would say that if at least some people from the Google Drive or the Google Photos teams are reading this, please do more real user experience testing when migrating from a tool to another one. The tools are wonderful, but the path from Picasa to Google Photos Backup to Backup and Sync is not friendly at all, to say the least.

Go to the sharing tab in the destination account and activate Auto add, all photos will be saved to the library. Can be done both ways so the two accounts have the same photos.

The app backs up everything from the device folders which you include in the backup option.
The folders that you exclude from the backup show a cloud symbol with a slash.

If backup & sync is on & also the app doesn't show something is pending for the backup, that means, the entire content in the selected folders is backed up.
To test, you can tap any picture & slide up. Then, the pic should show an option "Delete from device". That's the indication of the pic is already uploaded.

To include photos and videos from your other phone into your current Photos account, you can either:

1. Turn on Partner Sharing and share the images from the other phone (and possible other Google Account?) to the new phone. More details here https://support.google.com/photos/answer/7378858?co=GENIE.Platform%3DAndroid&hl=en

After clicking that, some pictures on my device disappeared and are only on my google photos account now. Is there a way to switch it back? You should convert all the pics stored on the cloud to high-quality. That should make the space occupied by Google photos zero.

And that can be done at https://photos.google.com/settings by choosing High Quality and then agree. That process may take a day when videos are involved, so have some patience before Gmail start operating again (hopefully you do read this via the community site).

Also check for any unsupported videos in that menu first, because they also can take a lot of storage.

PS: high quality can't be reverted to original quality, so you may feel the to copy your contents to computer via usb. Windows-10 has a nice import-facility in its basic Photos-app.

The randomly selected pics in ambient viewing via Chromecast (say 100 out of 1000) can't be done with a regular slideshow which always is in order the pictures are.

But if you assign randomly selected pics in your stream to create an album via the + then you can run a slideshow which looks fairly equivalent to "chaotic".

It am not aware of any slideshow-app which can images in random order and why???

Videos should be horizontal in order to be viewed corrected in a browser on a computer or via Chromecast on TV. So you have shooted them correctly and it is a wrong idea to want them vertical and there has been a lot of critics that the video-editor in Google Photos cropped them to vertical.

Apparently Google has listened to these critics and did improve the editor back to normal, but I have not checked this yet.
