Answer:

Hi, Raj kamal

Welcome to Google Photos Community Support Forum & thanks for your query.

Can you try to do so through another route? Please enter the link https://photos.google.com in any of the web browsers available on your phone. Log into your account & then see whether the albums become visible.
If yes, then please revert.

Answer:

Hi,  Raj kamal

Thanks for your reply

There is nothing in those two albums.
Did you delete something through your phone?
Can you please see if there is something in the bin or trash?

Answer:

Hi, Liri Rudnik

Welcome to Google Photos Community Support Forum & thanks for your query.

To allow the Google Photos app to continue to back up the pics even in the background, you need to permit the app to use internet data in the background.
You will find that option in the main settings of your phone.

Photos app showing most photos and videos twice after the latest update. Also, photos and videos which were already backed up are being backed up again by the app.

Answer:

@Ankur
Did you have changed your quality setting just before June 1?
Did you have checked on photos.google.com in the Chromebrowser if you see duplicates there?
Do many pictures come from Whatsapp or alike?

Answer:

No change in photo resolution settings since June 01 but I disabled back-up enabled it back today on the same resolution (Storage Saver) today. Edit1: Just noticed that the naming convention has changed and High Quality has been re-labelled as Storage Saver. The app itself says "Your photo backup quality hasn't changed.

Apart from camera photos, no other folder is selected to be backed-up.

Earlier it was backing-up only last 40 pictures, now it has increased to 300 and seems to be ever increasing. Looks like the app has lost track of pictures which were already backed-up. Edit3: Just noticed it has not selected all the photos & videos (around 400 of them) from the Camera folder from the day the phone was purchased till date and the number of duplicates in the photos app is steadily increasing.

Not sure if this is relevant but the device is Samsung S21 Ultra which also received the June security update last week.

Edit2: Online on photos.google.com, it is not showing duplicates.

Answer:

Thanks for fast reply
My guess is that the app got confused due to the Samsung-update. Best to reset the app:
  1. Choose use without account under your profile circle.

  2. Close all apps and restart the phone.

  3. Start the app when you have good wifi for at least an hour.

  4. Do log-in again, but don't start backupping.

  5. Give the app enough time to rebuild its database.

  6. When ready, switch-on backup again with the right settings and see what happens.

  7. Check on the site if no dupicates are appearing - if not, your backup is okay and hopefully up-to-date.
Good luck

PS: we can't help that Google changed the quality-naming, but the amount of compression at Google is the same as before June 1. But new MB's are counted now (they are compressed about a factor 2).

PS: the app always shows what you have on phone, but if you are logged-in with the same account as used in the backupsettings, it should show no duplicates on the Photos-page.

Answer:

Thank you for the detailed steps. Followed steps 1 to 5 and waited patiently till the photos already backed-up started reflecting in the app (there was a slider on top which got filled completely once done). Post that, it collated all the pictures from the phone memory as well and again started showing double pics.

I haven't executed step 6 and 7 yet still I am back to square one. Let me know if I should proceed or perform anything else.

Answer:

As said: the app always shows the pictures still present on phone, but the cloud copies should disappear now gradually because they only can be viewed on the site. So have "some patience", but I have the impression that the newest 5.47 version of the app did become extremely slow.
Nevertheless you can switched on the backup now to give the app the opportunity to compare you local content with the webcontent in its rebuild database.
Good luck

Answer:

Went ahead and turned-on the Back-up feature. All duplicates immediately disappeared while the 'Getting ready to back up' message is now listing in a few thousands items left (probably counted all the photos already backed-up from the time I started using the Photos app). Checked online and it is not showing any duplicates. Hopefully the app should settle at 0 once it is done creating a new database. Thanks again for help.

Edit: finally the backup count reached 0 and there are no more duplicates on phone. Thanks for help.

Regrettably, you can't upload photos to any website through the  Google Photos app.
If the required photo is not on your device, then, you need to download that first to the phone's memory & then upload to the website.

I am having black screen and pink screen issue in photos app on my pixel 2 running on Android P Developer preview.

Answer:

Hello Rishabh,

Thanks for stopping by the Google Photos Help Community.

I see that you're having black and pink screen issue in your Google Photos app on your Pixel. Could you please confirm if the issue persists only on the Google Photos app or with other apps as well?

Meanwhile, I'd recommend you try clearing your app's storage:
  1. Open your device's Settings app .
  2. Tap Apps & notifications.
  3. Tap See all apps  Photos App  Storage
  4. Tap Clear data or Clear cache. (If you don't see "Clear data," tap Manage space.)
  5. Just a heads up:
    • Clear cache: Deletes temporary data. Some apps can open slower the next time you use them.
    • Clear data: Permanently deletes all app data. We recommend trying to delete from inside the app first.
If the issue still continues, please ensure Google photos app is updated to the latest version.

Let me know if this helps.

Best,
Sonya

If you have subscribed to have additional space on the cloud, then only you need to make periodic payments. Otherwise, the Google Photos app doesn't need any subscription.

Question: i cant find my pictures i took with my iphone.

i checked on my google photos.

Hello Marten,

Thanks for posting in the Google Photos Help Forum.

Could you please elaborate the issue or your query for me to assist you better? Are you referring to the backed up copy of the photo in Google Photos? It can be possible that the photos weren't uploaded successfully to Google Photos (cloud) and also make sure you're logged in to Google Photos with the same Google Account that you used during the backup. Photos/videos that are not synced or backed up, will still appear in Google Photos and will have this icon  (which means not synced/backed up) or some photos/videos will also show up with the two arrows in a circle mean backup is in progress.
Once the upload is complete there will be no icon on any photos/videos. Often, many of us misinterpret that they are all backed up because the photos/videos show up in Google Photos and we over see the icons on each photo/video. If the photos/videos weren't backed up they cannot be deleted from the Google Photos library nor Trash.

In case, you are uploading a large amount of data (photos/videos), please know that it might take 24-48 hours for the photos and videos to sync across all devices. Please ensure to have 'Backup & sync' enabled on the Google Photos settings while you're backing up your photos and videos. To check is the content is backed up, login in to photos.google.com to checked for your backed up photos and videos.

However, if you're sure they were backed up, I recommend you looking for your video here:
If a photo/s is deleted from Google Photos, it would go to Trash/Bin for the next 60 days (after deletion). Unfortunately, if the photos aren't found in Trash or deleted from Trash, I'm afraid, you might not find them else where to recover them because Trash is the last resort to retrieve your lost/deleted photos.

Meanwhile, also try giving the below steps a try once again in a sequence to help resolve the issue:
  • Close the Google Photos app and re-launch it.
  • Sign out and sign back in to Google Photos with the same Google Account.
  • Clear App data:
    • Open your device's Settings app (not the Google Settings app).
    • Touch Apps.
    • Select Google Photos in the list.
    • Touch Clear data.
  • Update the Google Photos app on your Android phone:
    • Visit the Google Play Store.
    • Open Google Photos.

If the photos captured through other devices leave a stamp of the device name, then you can try searching with text such as "Pixel", "Apple" etc. However, there is no guarantee that the search will show all the related pics.

I am trying to upgrade the Google Photos app on my Google Pixel 2. My operating software is up to date. I am already signed into my Google account. When I independently open the Google play app, it all works fine. But when I open the Google Photos app, it prompts me to update the app. When I follow the link to Google Play to update I get an error screen which says "Something went wrong. You need to sign into your Google account". There is no error code. Just this message repeatedly when I click Retry. The same happens when I open Google Play independently and search for the Google Photos app. Even though I'm already signed into my Google account, and can search for and update any of the other apps in my library, it gives me an error for Google Photos only. I have cleared the cache and data for Google Play and this hasn't helped. Can anyone assist with this please?

Answer:

Hi there,

Thanks for writing back.

Could you please try using the Google Photos app by switching the phone to Safe Mode? In Android 4.1 or later versions, to reboot into safe mode you have to long press the power button until you get the options menu which has the following options –  Power off, Airplane mode, and Silent mode. After getting these options on your screen, long press the Power off button, you will be getting a message that prompts you to reboot your device to safe mode. By tapping the OK button, your device will reboot into safe mode, which will disable all third party applications you have installed. You can be sure that your device started in safe mode by seeing a safe mode indicator on the bottom left side corner of your device screen.

Keep me posted.

Best,

Answer:

I have the same issue going on. I believe it is from an app that is built in my phone. The app is called smart select and I have a galaxy s8 phone. I have to delete device folders called cache and files every time I open my Google photos app.  All of the pictures in those folders are junk pictures that I did not take. But when I go back and check the details of those pictures the date and time all seem to be exactly when I use smart select. So I guess all of the pictures in the cache and files folders seem to be from the smart select app. I still want to be able to use smart select but it is very annoying that I keep having to delete these folders all the time. Please help. Thanks.

Answer:

i also do face this problem  whenever  i open google photos app. i am currently using samsung galaxy s7  please suggest  me how to solve  this bug ?

Answer:

Hi - I think its to do with thumbnails displaying that should be hidden - in most cases facebook/messenger.
To hide them you need to create a .nomedia file (explained below) and paste it in the offending location.
If its facebook - internal/android/data/com.facebook.orca/files/stickers
if its not - to find out the problem location - go to info on the image and it will give you the file path.

Plugging it into a computer will make it easier to add the .nomedia file.

To create a .nomedia file:

Open notepad and save a blank text file named .nomedia

Important: be sure to change the "Save as type" option to All files.

BUT  while I was navigating to the folder I saw another .nomedia file and just copied and pasted it and presto. problem solved. BUT if you don't find one, just paste the .nomedia file you created.

Today my Google Photos suddenly started backing up 4000+ old media footages in my phone. This old media footages were already backed up previously before June 2021. I don't understand why Goofle photos is "Getting ready to back up" 4000 over photos and videos again when they were supposedly backed up previously. As Google Photos now charges for every photo uploaded, I am afraid that Google Photos might unnecessarily take up storage space on my Drive - Unfairly eating into my storage space for files that were supposedly already backed up. (it started backing up folders from almost a year back suddenly)

I have already paid for the annual 100 GB files and I am ready to increase my file storage in the future when necessary. However, I feel that it should be done so in a way that is fair for me, not bevause of a glitch of photos reuploading old footages that were supposedly already backed up before Jun 2021.

Will Google Photos double count those files??? How can I ensure that this issue isn't happening to me??

Hello Chong Tee Lim,

Welcome to the Google Photos Community.

Sorry we can't answer your question, please check at https://photos.google.com/search/_tra_ or Recently added in the search tab to see if any photos have actually been re-uploaded.

Perhaps you have previously deleted photos only from the web and a re-check has been made.

Answer:

Hi,
Have you moved the photos to another folder?
Something similar happened to me and it was because I duplicated some photos accidentaly from one to another folder on my phone.

Answer:

Hey Peter and Mike1,

Thanks for replying. To ans your qns, I didnt move my folders - so technically it shouldn't have caused that reupload. After checking through I noticed that it might just be "rechecking" or "resyncing" the 4000+ files- which was odd and a bit misleading/confusing because it never really happened before.

Thank goodness, it didn't reupload the old files in the end. After checking recently uploaded, the old files were "recently uploaded" but were uploaded at an older time.

Thanks for addressing and helping out you both.

B&S keeps alerting me that it cannot convert files to high quality (and will store them in Google Drive as is).  The list of files shows mostly photoshop .psd files. I have listed .psd to be ignored (see settings screenshot)

In fact, there is no problem here, I don't expect the psds to be converted, and, I do not see the files in Google Drive. But the error message is always there under the B&S Menu icon.

I have my google account and storage space that I share with my wife (family sharing), so both our photo's are saved to the same location.
When i take a photo and it's backed up daily, i can delete that photo off my phone and it stays on Google Photo's. Which is great. it does what i want it to do.

However, my wife does the same and as she deletes a photo, it automatically deletes from google photos which defeats the purpose of backing up photo's

Why does this happen, why is google photo's behaving differently across 2 devices saving to the same account.
Similarly, when i look to "Delete from Device" from google, i can't find it anywhere.
Something is wrong and i need assistance please.

Answer:

Hello Novica,

Welcome to the Google Photos Community.

Just a couple of observations, but you should be able to compare Google Photos settings on both devices to work out why they are behaving differently, but we can't access your devices so it's difficult to advise.

You can share storage allocation with family sharing, but your photos are not saved to the same destination unless you are using the same Gmail account in the Backup & sync settings of the app. If you each have your own account then all photos are saved in that account.

Happy to try to go into more detail if you can clarify your backup account settings.

Regards,

Peter

Hi..In anticipation that Google Photos had backed up my mobile photos, I uploaded all Galary to Google Photos. I had also ensured that photos were synched with my Photo Galary ( basically my Camera photos). Now to free up space, I deleted fotos from my mobile memory space. But shockingly those fotos ( despite back up option selected) are not seen in Google Photos library anywhere. What the horrible experience to find that fotos you paid for back up also expected the fotos on Camera Galary all the time? I de-selected the Auto Sync option, but still not sure why Photos app from Google trying do exacttly same thing ( like delete photos) that I am doing my mobile phone galarry?

Any contacts where I can report this and recover my deleted photos?

Just started with google photo's before only using photo's from ios. After installing google photo's a lot of my photo's are put into  the year 2018 or 2017 but does not belong there. I can't find the place to change the date. Photo by photo I can do it no problem, but that's a monkwork and most of the time I don'tremeber if the photo was taken 5, 6, 7, 8 or more years ago.
Any ideas ?

Answer:

Hello Marc,

Welcome to the Google Photos Help Forum.

Photos will have the same date when uploaded on the same day as captured. Images added to Google Photos from  third-party software do not reliably appear in the proper chronological order within Google Photos.  You can try changing the date and time of the photos from within the Google Photos app, even just shifting by one minute, in the hope of convincing Google Photos to display in the order indicated by the Information Pane; not sure this will work, but it's worth a try.  Below are instructions on how to select images and edit Date and Time.

Change date & time stamps:

You can change the date and time stamps for photos and videos using a computer only:
  1. On your computer, go to photos.google.com.
  2. Place your cursor over a photo or video. To select the items you want to update, click Select .
  3. At the top right, click More .
  4. Click Edit date & time. If you selected more than one item, you'll see two options.
    • To specify a date and time for the first item and automatically adjust the dates and times for the other items as relative to that, click Shift dates & times.
    • To set the same date and time for all the items you selected, click Set one date & time.
  5. Follow the instructions to finish.
Keep me posted.

Amanda

Question: How do you fix red eye in google photo

I have looked through editing tools and can't find fix red eye

Hi, Lu Ann Fricchione 9827

Welcome to Google Photos Community Support Forum & thanks for your query.

Regrettably, the editor in Google Photos doesn't provide any utility to remove the red eye phenomenon.
I suggest, you please go for some proprietary image editor.

Im confused about the photos storage space. I know June 1st, Google ended unlimited storage, but I was under impression all photos taken before that date wouldn't count.  Im almost full and when looking to free up space, photos from 2012 as an example are showing up. Please help, i thought I read id have close to 3 years to get to the 15mb included before having to buy a subscription.

Answer:

Hello Lisa ,

Photos uploaded at high quality before June 1 2021, Will not count towards your Google account storage.

If you have uploaded photos at original quality it will count towards your storage even if it's before June 1 2021,

Google account storage is not just photos storage it can be of Google drive, Google photos , Gmail etc they all count in 15gb storage.

To get a detailed info please take a look at the below link.

And click on See how you're using your storage.

Hope this helps.
Thanks.

Answer:

Im still confused, all my photos are saved not in original format as I was told that would save space. As far as what I'm seeing when I click on manage account, im only showing 2.8gb used. Nothing in documents, or email, I really only use Google for the photos.

Answer:

After June 1 2021,
Now if you upload photos in High quality too. It will count against the Google account storage.

Then it might be some your photos&  vedios would have uploaded on original quality.

Thanks.
