Check your internet connection (mobile data).
Close the Google Photos app and re-launch it.
Sign out and sign back in to Google Photos with the same Google Account.
Clear App data:

Open your device's Settings app (not the Google Settings app).
Touch Apps.
Select Google Photos in the list.
Touch Clear data.

Update the Google Photos app on your Android phone:

Switching off the auto backupping is not enough. Your mail got blocked because you have eaten-up all free space in your account by choosing original quality. And that is why your Gmail got blocked because that service shares the same free space in your account, including Google Drive (if used).

See one.google.com/storage

So you have to recover space via photos.google.com/settings in the Safari-browser by logging-in with your Gmail-account and then press the button and wait a day. Also check there if any unsupported videos can be deleted, because these also use space. Thereafter your mail will start working again.

Then come back to hear what should be done furtheron.

You see your local files in the Photos-app, so that is why they get deleted. So stop to make space by doing this and follow my advise to 3W.

I assume from the Tag "Web" on the post that you are talking about your account on your computer (and we are not talking about space on a mobile device).

If you were talking to Google One Support, I am sure they must have told you this, but double check.. Empty the Trash (in the upper right corner). If you emptied the trash you should see no photos here: https://photos.google.com/u/0/trash

Confirm that you your space issue is really with photos. Maybe all of the photos that you deleted were not consuming space (e.g., where "High Quality" images uploaded before June 1).

On the first picture the persons are under-exposed causing the blueish teint.

The second picture is edited, but not good either because under-exposed images can't be improved very much. I am not aware that this editing is done automatically any human interaction.

Google photos does not create or change WhatsApp folders, they are created by WhatsApp and Google Photos just shows them in the app.

If you can take a screenshot of the photo details from one photo from each of the folders I will see if there is any clue in the path name. Tap the 3 dots or stroke up to see the details.

Now understand your requirement correctly.

There are two ways to do so.

The first is somewhat cumbersome but manageable on most of the makes of Android phones.

To do so, first, you will have to create one more Gmail account for your workplace-related activities.
Add that account to Google Photos.
Now, you will have to keep the backup & sync off.
Once you click some pics while at work, move them to some distinct folder labelled work.
Exclude this folder from backup & sync.
Next, whenever you shoot pics for your memories, move these to another folder named "Home".
Once done, switch on the backup & sync & allow the folder named "Home" to get backed up completely & then switch off the backup & sync once again.

The second method is slightly easier. However, that's possible only on some makes of devices (Including Pixel)

Here too, you need a separate account for all work-related activities.

But, instead of adding that to Google Photos, create a new profile on your phone with the new account.

That option becomes visible when you pull down the notification panel. A profile icon

will be visible near the gear

icon. Tap on that and add a new profile.

Here is how the screen looks.

Once done, the profile will have a separately allocated space in the memory without interfering with your home profile. This works something like setting up multiple profiles on a Windows Desktop. Every user gets a separate space on the hard disk without any interference with others.

The photos will never appear in your home profile.

Nevertheless, you will have to remember switching to your work profile before capturing any pics.

Just to confirm I don't mind google photos backing up the whole camera roll displayed in google photos. What I don't want is if someone sends me a picture in whatsapp, for example, I don't want this to be picked up by google photos, displayed in the google photos camera roll and also backed up. I want it to be completely ignored. There seems to be an option for android that handles this situation by choosing what device folders to be included, however iOS doesn't have this functionality. Or at least I can't find it. I would love to just switch back to android but my work enforces iOS for security reasons apparently.

Before I made the replacement, I checked that my photos from my iPhone's gallery were in my Google Photos. From Nov. 2017 - Present they were all there. However, when I finished the startup process on my new iPhone X, the photos weren't there. I only had my photos from Oct. 2017 and before, which was when I used a Samsung Note 5. Is there anyway to recover these photos?

I did not use iCloud Backup or any iPhone Backup simply because it maxed out at 5GB and I had way more than that saved in photos so I primarily used Google Photos to manage that.

Interestingly enough, my Google Timelines all appear, but the photos taken on those timeline dates/locations are not there.

Before you replaced your phone, did you check the Google Photos website? That is the easiest way to verify that your phone pictures were actually uploaded to your account. If your pictures are not visible on the website, then they were not actually backed up.

It's important to keep in mind that just because your pictures may be visible in the Google Photos app, that does not mean they have all been backed up to your account in the cloud. The app is capable of displaying all pictures on your phone as well as those from the cloud. This is why it's best to verify they have been uploaded by using a computer to view the website.

If this is what happened and you replaced your phone without actually backing up your pictures, then unfortunately there is nothing that Google or any of the volunteers in this forum can do to help you get them back. Google can't help you recover files it never had in the first place.

If you have deleted through Google Photos, then you may still find those in the bin.

Did you make some changes through the Settings -> Chats -> Media visibility in WhatsApp recently?

Nevertheless, WhatsApp hides the media folder from visibility to other apps, usually.

To share your photo via email, please follow these steps.

Tap to open the photo.
Tap the share symbol at the bottom
Under “Share to apps,” select another app to share. Swipe left to find more apps.
Scroll through the apps list & tap on the required email app (Gmail, yahoo etc.)
That will create a draft email with the picture as an attachment.
Add the email ID of the recipient. Add subject & content to the email & then tap send.
