Could you please elaborate the issue or your query for me to assist you better? Are your photos/videos of 2017 missing? If yes, it can be possible that the photos weren't uploaded successfully to Google Photos (cloud) and also make sure you're logged in to Google Photos with the same Google Account that you used during the backup. Photos/videos that are not synced or backed up, will still appear in Google Photos and will have this icon  (which means not synced/backed up) or some photos/videos will also show up with the two arrows in a circle mean backup is in progress.

Once the upload is complete there will be no icon on any photos/videos. Often, many of us misinterpret that they are all backed up because the photos/videos show up in Google Photos and we over see the icons on each photo/video. If the photos/videos weren't backed up they cannot be deleted from the Google Photos library nor Trash.

In case, you are uploading a large amount of data (photos/videos), please know that it might take 24-48 hours for the photos and videos to sync across all devices. Please ensure to have 'Backup & sync' enabled on the Google Photos settings while you're backing up your photos and videos. To check is the content is backed up, login in to photos.google.com to checked for your backed up photos and videos. 

However, if you're sure they were backed up, I recommend you looking for your video here:
If a photo/s is deleted from Google Photos, it would go to Trash/Bin for the next 60 days (after deletion). Unfortunately, if the photos aren't found in Trash or deleted from Trash, I'm afraid, you might not find them else where to recover them because Trash is the last resort to retrieve your lost/deleted photos.

Meanwhile, also try giving the below steps a try once again in a sequence to help resolve the issue:
  • Close the Google Photos app and re-launch it.
  • Sign out and sign back in to Google Photos with the same Google Account.
  • Clear App data:
    • Open your device's Settings app (not the Google Settings app).
    • Touch Apps.
    • Select Google Photos in the list.
    • Touch Clear data.
  • Update the Google Photos app on your Android phone:
    • Visit the Google Play Store.
    • Open Google Photos.
    • Touch on Update.

Not clear about which update you are talking: the Android-system to version 11 or just the Photos-app only? 
Close all apps and restart your phone and then start the Photos-app when having good wifi and check under your profile circle right-up if backup is ready. Then shoot a random picture and check if that appears left-up on the Photos-page under all memories on top. 
Alse check in the general phone setting how much internal storage is free.

Didn't the changes recently specifically mention any photos and videos uploaded before June won't count towards usage as long as it's on high/savers quality? You may have uploaded Original size photos which do count.  Only High Quality uploads qualified for free storage.
 
Storage may be reduced by going to https://photos.google.com/settings and using the Recover storage option.
 
To help find out where storage is being used, head over to https://photos.google.com/quotamanagement
 
If you need to subscribe to Google One you can Create a family group then share the storage between members and it can be used in addition to their own 15GB
 
Review backup settings on Mobile
  1. Open Google Photos .
  2. At the top right, tap your account profile photo or initial  Photos settings .

  4. Check your settings:
    • Back up & sync: Make sure "Back up & sync" is turned on.

Do I really read 1.5 TB (terabyte, so about 1500 Gigabyte) on  one.google.com/storage ????
How did you manage that before you have switched to high quality without paying Google for 2 TB. 
That must be an ugly amount of photos & movies. 
If you just have changed your setting to high quality, nothing is changed of course. 
And high quality only refers to Photos - not to what you may have on Drive. 
Completely unclear and no Google here.

Edit: huh funny enough it now says 2gb used on photos from previous 1tb after attempting to reduce it again. Doesn't it say after June reducing photos counts towards usage? In this case I did reduce it before June but for some reason it didn't show it did til I reduced it again? I'm unsure but either way usage down to about 450gb.. still could reduce it more, just gotta declutter

You are confused about Drive files. The announcement said that created document etc will not count before June 1st and if edited after June 1st they will begin to count.
 
All uploads to My Drive count and always have, there is no change.
 
The rollout must be still under way as I can also still reduce new photo uploads to  zero by using Recover storage.

The safest way to delete from Google Photos is to delete the Google Photos app and delete the photos at photos.google.com

The camera roll will not be affected and Google Photos can be reinstalled after deleting the photos. 
 
Backup should be left switched off otherwise it will re-upload the contents of the camera roll.

Hi. I like seeing photos displayed in date order with the date clearly displayed, which is the default mode when I view all of the content in the main Photos tab. But I don't have that functionality when I view photos in an album. In my albums, the date isn't visible unless I go into each individual shot and check the metadata under 'Information'. Not ideal if I'm browsing thousands of photos taken over the years. But I'm new to cloud storage so maybe I'm missing something. Any thoughts? And if Google simply doesn't  offer this, any ideas on a rival service that provides this basic functionality?

In album view, you get option to view the content in following three orders
  • Oldest first
  • Newest first
  • Recently added
To reach that option, tap the three dots, next edit album & then tap on the up-down arrows at the top right corner.
In this way, even though you can't see any dates upfront. The Newest first will show the pics in the desired order.
 
Nevertheless, you can suggest that feature through the help & feedback route.

  • When you give your albums unique names, you can type the complete album title in the search bar, and hit "Enter" instead of clicking on the suggested album name. That will give you a search result with all the photos grouped by date. You always get the newest on top. 

  • Sending Feedback is an option but not likely to succeed. Thousands of users want the option to sort by file name in an album, but I got the answer that "most users do not need this".

It seems that each folder has a random selection of all my WhatsApp images but I have no idea why it has created two folders. Additionally, it seems that each folder is random in what it contains - with both having very recent and some older photos. It is becoming problematic when I am trying to find an image and don't know which of the WhatsApp folders is going to be in!

 Does anyone know why Google Photos has done this?

 I have tried copying the photos from one folder into another but it simply says there was a problem in copying these files.

I understand that google is a greedy company that has to monetize everything but they make millions off my personal data and searches so they could allow printing again. Google Photos never has had a printing option - probably you are in error with old Picasa, but that was computersoftware specialised for editing & printing photos on your connected printer at home. 

But GP is a website on your computer or an app on your phone and that is a very bad starting point. 
You can print from the website (photos.google.com) like you can print any website, but then you can't make nice prints on 4x6" photopaper precisely. 
And the app is even more poor: maybe you can send a picture on pdf via the cloud to your printer, but that also will be not in the sizes wanted. But you will have the same problem with Facebook etc. etc. unless you start creating albums at printservices like Shutterfield or Snapfish. 

However: a homeprinter is not handy to make hundreds of standard prints, so in general you will need a few only and not everyday either. And then you simply can select these on photos.google.com and download them individually to your computer to avoid zipping and then you have all software available to make good photoprints like in the good old days. What a strange icons you have at the bottom - they look totally abnormal too. 
Please close all apps and restart your phone. 
Then check in the general settings how much free storage you have: if much lower then 5 GB, you are in trouble and your phone will become unusable soon. And certainly no space for downloading old stuff. 
Also check on photos.google.com that your pictures still are safely stored at Google. 
Please come back to report then.

Perhaps you have missed a warning on Gmail that your account was near to get closed because of long term inactivity. Although 13 MB at Photos can be normal because of having stored at high quality for years or a reduced size via Picasa, your usage for Gmail and Drive is much too low. 
 
Please try the following: shoot some random non-private pictures in your neighboor and a one minute video. Back home with wifi start the Photos-app and check if they got uploaded - if not, look undre your profile-circle right-up if backup is switched-off - then switch-on and don't bother about any quality setting. 
If succeeded, go back to one.google.com/storage and log-in with the same account as used in the backupsetting, because that can be different from your log-in account for viewing.

The face recognition feature is still evolving & is likely to err particularly when faces are either near about or blurry. Further, the app may fail to relate the childhood photos with a grown up person.
 
Nevertheless, you can correct that manually through the following steps.
  • Tap to open the photo which contains incorrectly identified faces & then slide up or tap the three dots.
  • Tap the edit icon at the extreme right edge. (An icon of a pencil circled in the screenshot above). That will show identified faces in square boxes & their thumbnails at the bottom. 
  • The ones with a - sign are the identified faces. Tap on that & the face will get transferred to the collection of thumbnails with + sign.
  • Now tap the + sign. Then the app will show you all the identified faces till that time. You can select the right one. Then the photo will get transferred to the right collection.
PS. The edit feature may not be available in some regions. If you happen to be from that, then regretfully nothing can be done.

The editor in the Google Photos app allows corrections in the orientation of pictures.
To do so, please follow these steps through the phone app.
  • Tap to open the picture
  • Tap on the edit icon below the picture
  • Tap on menu option Crop. See the screenshot at the bottom "Rotate".
  • Tap on the rotation symbol for achieving a turn through ninety degrees. Each successive tap will add ninety degrees going through 90 -> 180 -> 270 -> and again back to 360 degrees.
  • That will help you correcting sideways or upside-down orientations.
  • If you wish to fine-tune then move the slider above the rotation symbol. That helps in correcting slight misorientations at an increment of one degree.

Still I don't have access to manual tagging, i.e. selecting a photo with tagged faces and seeing the edit button in the detail page. The FAQ states that this functionality isn't available in some countries, but it should work in the US. I thought I might just have to wait some time for the changes to propagate, but after a week it's still the same.

Okay, face grouping is great. So great, in fact, that each person has multiple different groups: some of their pictures are in one group, some in another, etc.  How can I combine these groups??? Looked everywhere, Google Photos sometimes asks me, "Are these the same person? ✅🚫" and they are but it isn't asking me lol
