Question: How do you access picture from the cloud

Access pictures on the cloud

Hi, Rita Embry

Welcome to Google Photos Community Support Forum & thanks for your query.

To access pictures from the cloud, ease enter the link https://photos.google.com in any of the web browsers available on your phone. Log into your account & then scan through your pics.
Nevertheless, the Google Photos app also shows pictures from the cloud only once we delete the corresponding originals from our device.

Please please help. My phone smashed last week. All photos at this point were on Goggle photos. But when I got a new phone and installed goggle photos app i lost 2 years of photos. My old phone is disabled. Please please help as it is all my pic from my baby girl thank you for your time !

Answer:

Hello ,

Are you sure you have uploaded photos on google photos?

Please see to it that you're on the same google account which was used to upload the photos?

Look at the archive and trash folder in google photos.

Thanks.

Answer:

@leanne
Sorry to hear, but phones always get smashed or sinked or stolen and apparently you never have checked straight at Google if your picture really were stored there. Just because the app only does show what you have on phone and not what you have at Google unless by additional checking.

So open photos.google.com in the Safari-browser and log-in with the Gmail-account used on the old phone - if you are lucky, they still are there. And then they also should become visible in the Google Photos app on your new phone if you log-in with the same account.

But if almost nothing is there, they never have been backupped correctly due to unknown causes and then it is hopeless unless some repair station is able to pick them from the memory chip and transfer them to your new phone.
We can do no more then telling this, sorry.

Question: How can I do to write a text on top of the image I have

I want to write a name of the company on top of the picture

Hi, Richard Molebatsi

Welcome to Google Photos Community Support Forum & thanks for your query.

The text entry features through the editor in the Google Photos app are rudimentary.
  • Nevertheless, you can add text near the top edge of the pc through these steps.
  • Tap to open the picture.
  • Tap edit
  • Scroll the Suggestions row horizontally to reach the option Mark-up.
  • Tap on Text
  • The cursor will get placed in the middle of the picture.
  • Enter the desired text.
  • Now to position the text near the left edge, add spaces after the text.
  • To position, the text near the right edge, add spaces before the text.
  • To bring the text near the top edge, add series of enter.
Save the pic once done.

Starting June 7 it will roll out in few weeks now. For pixel devices only for now.

For other Android devices we don't have official statement.

I recently went 2,000 photos over my 15gb limit, since then I've deleted well over 2,000 photos yet Google photos is still telling I need to delete a further 1,500 photos and that my 15gb storage is still full.

Answer:

Hello Christopher,

please take a look at the below link

Check All trash
Drive/Trash
Email/Trash
Photos/Trash

Thanks.

Answer:

@Christopher
Your very basic mistake is that you have chosen to upload in original quality in the past and then you always will run out of your free space at Google some day.
Deleting bulks never helps for reasons unkown to us - even after emptying the trash in the Google app.
Besides: then you also are deleting your originals in the Apple Photos app, but these can be restored.
So go to photos.google.com/settings and log-in with your Gmail-account and then press the recover storage button - then Google will compress your collection to high quality which uses much less storage.
That process may take a day.
Therafter change your backupsetting to high quality (maybe named storagesaver now) to prevent problems in near future. But it maybe better to stop using Google at all and restrict to iCloud which is not for free either. Good luck.

PS: that Google is telling you that you may delete 1500 pictures only refers to free-up local space on your phone, but not in your account.

Answer:

I tried sending photos . But the phone only allowed me to send by creating a link. I'm sending to a business. They said to send as an attachment. They couldn't open in the link. Thanks

Answer:

@Janisse
There is nothing wrong with sending a link, but that business is antique.
But in general you can't send many pictures per mail as normal attachments, so you always are restricted to 2 or 3 per mail. So you may need to send several mails depencing on the amount needed.
The normal way is:
  1. Select 2 or 3 images in the Google Photos app
  2. Hit the Share-icon (lying).
  3. Select your mail-app at the bottom, normally the M for Gmail or another mail-app under the 3 dots.
  4. Add the adress and type some text and then send the mail.
If you select much more pictures, you will see the proposal to downsize (which ruïnes their original data) or to send them as a link (which may problems for some receivers).
Good luck

Need to restore the permanently deleted pics and videos

Hi, sathvik kashyap

Welcome to Google Photos Community Support Forum & thanks for your query.

Nevertheless, when you tap the delete icon in the Google Photos app, a warning appears telling you what will happen if you proceed. On your phone, that message asks, "Remove from Google account & synced devices?"

When you attempt to manually empty the trash/bin in Google Photos, another warning appears that explains the consequences of permanently deleting those pictures and videos.
If you choose to proceed anyway, there is nothing that any of the volunteers in this forum can do to help you recover your pictures.

Question: I've permanently deleted photos and I need them back. Please i need help

Hello Firoz,

Please review the following information in case there are any options you haven't yet tried.

1. Check your online account - photos.google.com
If your photos were successfully uploaded to your online Google Photos account they may be available there. Try visiting photos.google.com and searching for them. If you have more than on
2. Check the trash - photos.google.com/trash
Once you delete photos from your Google Photos account, they're moved to Trash for the next 60 days. If you deleted them by mistake you can always restore them from the Trash folder within those 60 days. Here's the link explaining how to recover them from Trash. If you have more than one Google account, check the trash for all of them.

If you accessed the Trash and manually sent the photos for permanent deletion, or if the 60 days expired, there is no way to recover them from Google Photos

3. Review other options
  • if you previously used Picasa, visit picasaweb.google.com and search for your photos.
  • have you made any backups of the photos on your phone, camera, computer, or elsewhere?
  • there is a small chance that you can restore the photos using a recover deleted photos app (Android). I haven't used them myself so have no specific recommendations. There may well be more app options if you visit the appropriate app store and try other search terms. I don't see any similar apps on the iOS store, but you could check yourself.
  • you can contact the Google Drive support team to see if any deleted files may be recovered. Use the Google Drive contact form, click Missing or deleted files, select a contact option, and be sure to tell them you permanently deleted files in Google Drive.
  • If you ever shared the photos with anyone else, it's possible they may have a copy they could share back or send to you.
 Thanks.

BUT if I send it with someone with a Google account,. THEY CAN'T VIEW IT!  It keep asking them for their password which (a) isn't working, (despite it working elsewhere) (b) it shouldn't matter!!   The ENTIRE POINT is to avoid this hassle.

And before you ask, YES the toggle in on for "Let anyone with the link see photos and people in this album" is on.

Any chance Google Photos will offer an unlimited upload plan in the future? I get the need to start charging for their service, however, $9.99/month for only 2TB of storage is steep considering there are other platforms like Flickr who charge a monthly fee for unlimited photo uploads (in original quality) and others like Amazon who offer unlimited photo uploads to their subscribers. It would be nice as I really love Google Photos. I'm willing to pay but not with that huge cap. It's no better than saving photos on an external hard drive.

Answer:

@avu
Sorry, but they also offer 100 GB for 20 dollars per year.
That never has been changed for original quality uploads.
Better to test if Google Photos can fullfill your needs in long term compaired to Amazon or Flickr (or others). My 45K was stored at high quality for free since 2007, so I have no problem to start paying a bit next year for all comfort and safety enjoyed so many years.

Hi There,

The problem about Xiaomi Device is that, If you explore File Manager (internal storage), you'll find a folder called DCIM. And that folder contains various other folders called "Camera, Screenshots, restored etc."

So the screenshot you take lands into the DCIM, which is backed up by Google Photos considering it is a photo taken using the camera app.

I'm afraid there is no solution about that.

How do I delete photots from google photos without deleting them off of my actual phone. I do not wish to use google photos anymore because I have used all my storage up and am unable to send or recieve emails. I would like to get the photos off of google photos, keep them on my actual phone, and get my storage back. Thank you!

Answer:

Hi, Ciara Davis

Welcome to Google Photos Community Support Forum & thanks for your query.

To delete the pictures backed up to Google Photos, please follow these steps.
  • If corresponding originals exist on your device, please identify those & then move all these to a new folder. Please ensure the new folder is excluded from backup & sync. Additionally, switch off backup & sync also.
  • Now delete the pics through Google Photos. Your previous action will ensure that the delete action doesn't sync & remove your originals.
  • Visit the bin or trash & delete the pictures permanently.
Nevertheless, if you uninstall the Google Photos app on your phone & then delete the pics in Google Photos through the web link https://photos.google.com. That will make sure no photo on your device gets deleted because of your purging action. Also, that will avoid the need to move the pics.

Answer:

Better then bulk deletion which never works-out very well for reasons unknown to us:
Log-in to photos.google.com/settings and press the Recover storage button.
Then all will get compressed to save storage and your mail will get unblocked within a day or two.
Thereafter you can start to delete in small quantities per day (a few hundred) followed by emtyin the trash at Google.
Good luck

I have an album. I added these some photos.
But when I open it to see them, and scrolling to the end - the last photo i see was uploaded on Jul 9.
I can see the same bug over Android and Web browser versions.
In information below album's name all written correctly. I had 198 photos, today added these 3, it shows me 201 available photos.
The same with date range - second date that represent the date of the oldest photos shows up Aug 5 (today).

When I open information about older photos that are in album, but i can't see them there - it said that this photo is added to album.

Photos somehow exist and not exist in album at the same time.
I have a Beta Android on my pixel, that gives me some difficulties to use Photos app (it crashes every time I open any photo), I've already created a ticket to Android Beta Feedback.

Question: Why are photos uploaded from my pixel in saver quality counting against my 15GB Google quota?

Why are photos uploaded from my pixel in saver quality counting against my 15GB Google quota?

Hello Shubham,

You may have uploaded Original size photos which do count.  Only High Quality uploads qualify for free storage.

Storage may be reduced by going to https://photos.google.com/settings and using the Recover storage option.

To help find out where storage is being used, head over to https://photos.google.com/quotamanagement

If you need to subscribe to Google One you can Create a family group then share the storage between members and it can be used in addition to their own 15GB

Review backup settings on Mobile
  1. Open Google Photos .
  2. At the top right, tap your account profile photo or initial  Photos settings .
  3. Tap Back up & sync.
  4. Check your settings:
    • Back up & sync: Make sure "Back up & sync" is turned on.
Review your upload size to the web
  1. On your computer, open photos.google.com/settings.
  2. Select High quality or Original quality for future uploads.
Review backup settings for the Backup and Sync computer app
  1. On your computer, download and install Backup and Sync.
  2. Sign in to the Google Account that you use for Google Photos.
  3. Select to back up only photos or videos, or all files.
  4. Select any folders you want to back up.
  5. Under “Photo & video upload size,” select your upload size
Regards,

Answer:

How's that possible? Because while backing up I choose express only.

Also, if I go for recover storage option, will my pixel 2 pics in original quality be also compressed?

Answer:

As volunteers we don't have access to user accounts so are unable to answer why, the best we can do is to help you by suggesting how to try and work out what happened.

First tap the account icon in Google Photos and select Account storage to see if there are any large photos and videos to review. Note that Pixel 2 photos and videos uploaded in Original quality after 16th January 2021 will count against storage as the unlimited originals expired then.

Pixel 2 photos and videos uploaded before that date will not be compressed by Recover storage.

Answer:

We can never be certain, but according to all the experts it has never happened before. Only photos using storage will be affected and the pre 16 Jan should not be using any.

Answer:

Sorry, only the size as a clue. When you open a photo at photos.google.com there is an (i)nfo field which gives the size etc.under the filename.  My photos for example are between 8 and 10 MB in Original and between 1 and 4 MB after I convert them to High Quality

See screenshot online as an example (ignore the text it was an example of searching by camera name)

Answer:

Is that the only way to find out? How can I be 100% sure?

Are you a Google employee?

If I move out of pixel, will all the pics start counting against my google 15gb?

Also, is this communication available/searchable on google with my name?

Answer:

There is currently no way to be 100% sure.

The Community is made up of volunteers and everything you see is also publicly visible.

On all devices except Pixel 1 to 5 every upload will use a portion of the 15GB allowance, photos already uploaded from a Pixel will not start using storage.

Question: Can I upload mp4 video with the DESCRIPTION pre-filled?

On Google Photos. Can I upload mp4 video with the DESCRIPTION pre-filled?

Hi Francisco,

It's not possible to pre-fill the description field when uploading videos or photos.

I recommend that you send your feedback and suggestions to the Google Photos team as these instructions explain under "Send feedback to the Google Photos team" https://support.google.com/photos/answer/6156065

I'm an astronomy and space popularizer, a Google enthusiast, and a co-host of the first Italian space podcast since 2007.Having been fully in the Google ecosystem since the start I have extensive experience with its products. Answer:

When you add for example a "Caption (description)" to a photo in Picasa, it will appear in the "Description" field in Google Photos. Google copies the text in their own database, thus you can edit the text in Google Photos , but the original text in the photo remains unchanged. When someone downloads the photo, the original caption will still be there.

I tried with a video but that did not work (I am less familiar with videos)

Answer:

Addition to Jan:

As usual OP's don't tell what they are doing exactly, but if you type a "title" in the Windows-properties of a moviefile (straight under Details), this text is not seen after uploading that file to Google Photos indeed.

And if you type a text under the video in Picasa, this does not arrive in the Title-field in the fileproperties.
So a minefield of confusion and technical mysteries.

Main reason: videofiles have no standard exif-header like jpg-files, so Google does not expect any additional user-information at all. So you have to type (or to copy) your text into the information panel on the site.

Thank you very much Paolo Amoroso for your attention.
I can upload jpg photo, with the DESCRIPTION field pre-populated.
See the example I'm sending you in the attachment.

Upload the photo to your Google-Photos and check it out.

Thank you so much janvb, for your attention.
Yes, the jpg photo, with the DESCRIPTION pre-filled, is uploaded perfectly by Google Photos.
Yes, Google Photos DOES NOT make any changes to the photo's exif.

The problem occurs in mp4 video.
Looks like there's a bug in Google Photos.

Thank you very much Rinus Alewijnse for your attention.
Yes, video has its own exif.
But, Google Photos doesn't process the DESCRIPTION header, in mp4.
Looks like there's a bug in Google Photos.

Upload the video to your Google-Photos and check it out.

THIS IS THE DOUBT I AM FACING!

Answer:

Makes no sense Francisco - of course you are free to send a feedback straight to Google via the app or the site, but thereafter there will be deep silence forever because you maybe the first and only person in the asking for. Besides: jpg is a world standard, but there simply are too much video-formats to expect any standard.
You simply can add a description on Google Photos itself and this description can be read by shared people. And that is good enough.

Hi, darshan kumar 1509

Welcome to Google Photos Community Support Forum & thanks for your query.

Had you backed up the pics to Google Photos?
Are you not finding the deleted pictures there?

If so, did you delete the pics through Google Photos? or using some Gallery app on your phone?
If you have deleted through Google Photos, then you may still find those in the bin.
The Bin icon becomes visible through the library view.

Answer:

Hi,  darshan kumar 1509

Thanks for your reply

Did you look into the bin as suggested?
Could you find something there?

Question: "Couldn't delete" pops up when trying to delete movie created on google photos. How do I delete?

A few movies were created on google photos using an album, but I am now unable to delete the movies. They are not saved on my phone or included in any album (private or shared). I am able to delete the files on my google photos app and empty the trash, but when I log onto the google photos on my desktop the movies are still present even though the trash is empty. When trying to delete the movies on the desktop, "couldn't delete" pops up. What is interesting is that when I click on the movie there are different versions that have been bundled together like I would see with burst photos.

I have tried:
- to delete each movie individually
- cleared cache on photos app
- cleared data on photos app
- uninstalled updates on the photos app
- reinstalled the newest photos app update

Nothing seems to work. Eventually the movie reappears on my google photos app. Nothing seems to be working. Any help is appreciated. Thank you!

Answer:

Hello there,

Thanks for posting in the Google Photos Help Forum.

Please confirm if you're having the same issue on a Google Photos app (if possible).

Meanwhile, also try giving the below steps a try once again in a sequence to help resolve the issue:

Let me know how it goes.

Best,
Amanda

Answer:

Thank you for suggestions, however there was no change. I still see "couldn't delete" message when trying to delete the movies.  I tried signing out and signing back in, I cleared the cookies and cache on my browser, I tried logging on via the incognito window, I tried using internet explorer and chrome, and I tried doing this on a different laptop.

When using the photos app, it allows me to delete the movies and the movies show up in my trash on the app, and I can empty the trash, but when I log onto photos.google.com on my desktop the files are still present and they eventually appear again in my google photos app. I am open to any other suggestions. Thanks again for your help.

Answer:

Hello there,

Thanks for writing back.

Could you please try the same with a different Google Account?

Regard,
Amanda

Answer:

Hello all,

Thanks for responding.

@Author - I'll be happy to help you further. Thanks you for trying all the above steps that you've mentioned, could you please try the same on a different device (computer, if possible) to check what happens next and to know if this is a device specific issue or account related issue.

@Aliphus - Please confirm which device are you on. Are you on Google Photos web (browser), Android device or iOS?

Keep me posted.

Regards,
Amanda

Answer:

Same issue here. I started to create a video from my sons football practice and it had a video clip and some pictures combined. When I went to create the video on my phone it wouldn't create it and said the file couldn't be edited. Then I closed it, but 2 video clips that are 24 seconds showed up which won't let me delete them now. One has the icon goofed up too it appears. Like its a photo and video icon overlapped perhaps. I just archived the videos so I don't see them, but even when I tried to delete them on mobile, they would delete then reappear on their own.

Answer:

It seems to only happen with portrait mode photos. I take portrait mode photos using Camera NX on my OG Pixel. Not sure whether it only happens with Camera NX or it is an issue with portrait mode photos in general...
A workaround seems to be to create a movie using normal photos and then add each portrait mode photo seperately using the add photos or videos to movie function.
