Maybe the most simple explanation is that an empty folder is not shown. So you need to copy or move a picture in the Camera-folder to your mystery folder first and that is simple: select a picture, select copy or move under the 3 dots, select the new folder in the list.

But what are your plans with that folder? - maybe creating and filling an album is more wise.

Although there are multiple ways to transfer the content from the internal memory of the phone to an SD card, doing so through Google Photos allows retaining the backup and sync aspect.

Please follow the steps below to achieve the transfer.

Open Google Photos.
Tab Library.
Tap the desired folder under Photos on the device like Camera, Screenshots etc.
Select photos by long pressing then tap others after the tick confirms the first selection
You can also long-press and stroke down while still in a pressed condition, to select a batch.
Next, tap the 3 dot menu top right.
Tap Move to folder.
Tap New SD folder, type a folder name then tap Create.

Note that if the photos are backed up to Google Photos this will not remove them from the Photos, and even if the new folder is not selected for Backup & sync any contents will still be deleted if you delete that using the Google Photos app.

Nevertheless, when you tap the delete icon in the Google Photos app, a warning appears telling you what will happen if you proceed. On your phone, that message asks, "Remove from Google account & synced devices?"

When you attempt to manually empty the trash/bin in Google Photos, another warning appears that explains the consequences of permanently deleting those pictures and videos.
If you choose to proceed anyway, there is nothing that any of the volunteers in this forum can do to help you recover your pictures.

However, the local folder structure can not be restored.

To do so, there is no requirement to join Google One, the option is available to everyone.

However, the method may not be effective to recover something when the count is more than two hundred.

Change date & time stamps

You can change the date and time stamps for photos and videos using a computer. When you change the date and time of your photo, the edited date and time will appear in Google Photos. But if you share it to other apps or download it, it may show the original date and time saved by your camera.

On your computer, or in a browser, go to photos.google.com.
Place your cursor over a photo or video. To select the items you want to update, click Select .

This would not have happened if it were original camera-images, but images from social media have all original dates stripped and then you always will run in such hopeless date problems.

So this problem is not caused by Google, but by using wrong media.

Hopefully the tip given works for you, but in the iOS-version of the Google Photos app you can adjust dates under individual photos. Just tap the date to see that option.

Problem solved. I downloaded all the photos from Google Drive onto my computer and upload them into Google Photos again and problem solved. It's so weird uploading the photos from Google Drive directly into Google Photos causes problem but not when we upload from the computer.

I did a few small test and could not verify your finding, so my question is: why do you have pictures on Google Drive (a few or thousands?), because that is quite abnormal also.

I can imagine the following scenario: you are receiving pictures send via Gmail and you don't save these attachments on computer, but on Drive instead (which is a standard option).

But if these people have done something wrong without notice, these files have all exif stripped due to a nasty bug at Google after skipping G+. Then you have the same problem as with pictures downloaded from social media like popular Whatsapp and then uploading from Drive via photos.google.com always will result in date-problems.

Apart from this: we can't start a bugreport from such a single user experience, so I would suggest to fill the feedbackform under the question mark right-up on photos.google.com

You will yourself know what you have done to upload that much videos (or any other person who uses your account perhaps). The only thing you can do now is pressing the Recover storage button on photos.google.com/settings and log-in with your account. That process may take a day or longer.

Also delete any unsupported video in the same menu.

Thereafter review your backup settings and change to Storage saver. And if there is another phone in the house with your accountsettings: that one should be changed also or you account should be removed from the Google Photos app to prevent this happening again.

The creation of an album is a cloud-based activity.

Even if you select to keep backup & sync off, the moment you put some photo from your local storage into an album, the app uploads that to the cloud the moment internet connectivity becomes available.

That I have tested & experienced myself. I added some pics from my local storage to an album while in flight mode. The moment I came out of the fight mode, the photo got uploaded to Google Photos.

The creation of an album is a cloud-based activity.

That I have tested & experienced myself. I added some pics from my local storage to an album while in flight mode. The moment I came out of the fight mode, the photo got uploaded to Google Photos.

Welcome to Google Photos Community Support Forum & thanks for your query.

You should not delete photos through your gallery in s straightforward manner.

If done, the sync action will remove the pics from the cloud storage also.

Instead of that, I suggest you use the "Free up space" option in the Google Photos app.

That will remove the originals from your device which have a corresponding backup on the cloud.

Addition to the above reply:

"Free up space" in the Google Photos app will delete ALL photos which are uploaded to Google Photos from your device.
If you want to delete more selectively you can
- delete them in the "Gallery"
  (thus NOT in the Google Photos app - that will also delete the cloud copy)
- select a number of photos, tap 3-dots > Delete from device

Note that this will leave you with a single copy of these photos. You better keep a backup somewhere.
