Now they are gone. Is there any way to restore these photos. If I'm understanding you right, you downloaded pictures through More > Download, but after you download them, you want to delete them from your device. Now, when you go to More (the three dots), there is no "delete from device" option. Is that correct?

 

Could you please try this:

1. Open the Google Photos app
2. Select the photo you want to delete by tapping & holding it (don't tap on it and open it)
3. Now you should see some icons at the top right, click More (three dots)
4. Click Delete from device

If you don't see the option, let me know. This might mean that the photo isn't being saved correctly.

I understand, when you say "gallery" you are talking about the pictures becoming visible in the "Photos" tab in the Google Photos app.

Then, there is a difference between what appears in the Facebook Gallery & the Photos tab in the app.

Facebook will show all the images available in every unhidden folder on your device which contain pics.

However, the photos tab will show the pictures which are backed up to the cloud only.

And then, the difference would arise if:

• You have not included all folders on your device in the backup and sync option
• You have archived some of the pictures.

Include every folder in the backup option & let the app sync. Then the difference will remain to the extent of archived pics only.

Meanwhile, let you know that you will see your files in Google Photos even if it is not backed up to it. It just acts as a gallery app when the backup and sync is "OFF".

Your query is unclear.

Do you want to view the WhatsApp picture within the app only & not to download anything to your phone? Then that's not possible.

Or, do you want to backup these pictures directly to Google Photos without downloading them to your phone? 

Even, for that to happen, you will have to load the pics on your phone first & the Google Photos will sync with that. 

Further, later on, if you delete the picture from your phone, again Google Photos will sync & delete that from the cloud too. Then, that would defeat the intention.

However, you can download the pics through the WhatsApp web app on a desktop & then upload them to Google Photos. 

That will prevent your phone from getting burdened with these pics.

Your observation is correct.

That's the intended feature of the "Sync" function.

The Sync operation replicates the action we take from one end to the other end also.

In this way, if we delete something from the phone, that deletes the corresponding one on the cloud backup & vice versa.

The correct approach to remove something from the phone would have been to use the "Free up space" option in Google Photos.

Then the app removes the pics from the phone only leaving the once on the backup cloud intact.

Thanks for your query.

I find you are mixing up two different requirements.

First: backing up the pictures from your current device to the desired account.

Right now the app is showing you an informational message saying the content on the device is being backed up to another account.

To change that, tap on the message. 

On the next screen, you will find mention of another account below the box notifying the current backup status. 

Tap on that & then that account will become the default one for backup and sync through the current device.

Second: to get the photos from one account through another, you will have to share those through the former. 

Then, switch the account, tap the sharing link & download everything through the alternate account. 

That will bring your current live backup & old content into the new account.

I'm sorry, checking the Google Photos app on an Android device is not enough to make sure all the photos have been properly uploaded to the https://photos.google.com website and are available online. If you didn't get a chance to check the website, the only copies of some of the photos might have been on the device, which was wiped along with any photos and data it stored.

 

At this point the only thing to do is to try to see if anything online might be recovered. I recommend that you contact the Google Drive support team to see if any deleted files may be recovered. Just open the Google Drive https://support.google.com/drive/?hl=en&authuser=0#topic=14940&contact=1 contact form, click Missing or deleted files, select a contact option, and be sure to tell them you permanently deleted files in Google Drive, not Google Photos.

I’m sorry to hear that you can’t find your photos. Please bear with me as this is quite a long post since there are a lot of steps to go through to have the best chance of finding your lost photos. 

 

First, please answer these questions:

• Do you recall seeing your photos at photos.google.com?
• Do you recall seeing your photos on a different device?
• Do you recall deleting photos from the Google Photo's app, or your phone's gallery app?
  • Did you use the Free Up Space feature to do so?

Unfortunately, if you never saw your photos on the website and/or a different device, there is a chance that the photos were never actually backed up to Google’s servers. I know this is tough to hear, but please try all the steps in this post as they might be hidden away somewhere you didn’t know of. 

 

Please navigate to these places on a computer and see if your photos appear:

• https://photos.google.com 
• https://photos.google.com/archive 
• https://photos.google.com/trash 
• https://photos.google.com/search (search for something obvious - dog, tree, person)
• https://photos.google.com/search/_tra_ (sorts photos by date added)
• https://get.google.com/albumarchive (under Auto Backup > date of lost photo)
• https://drive.google.com (Google Photos tab and/or folder)
• Other photo storage services (iCloud, OneDrive, Dropbox etc.)
• Any external drive you plugged your phone into at any point (USB drive, micro SD card, etc.)
• Apple photos Recently Deleted album

Please also log in to all the links above with all other Google accounts of yours, as you might have accidentally been backing up to a different Google account. Have you found your photos? If so, where were they located?

 

Let's also make sure the photos are being backed up correctly:

1. Open Google Photos .
2. At the top, tap your profile picture/initials > Photos Settings.
3. Tap Back up & sync.
4. Check your settings:
   • Back up & sync: Make sure "Back up & sync" is turned on.
   • Backup account: Make sure you back up your photos and videos to the right Google Account.
   • Back up device folders: If you want to see photos and videos from other apps or devices in your Google Photos library, make sure you turn on your available device folders.
   • When to back up: Make sure you know when Google Photos backs up your photos and videos. You can choose to back up items over mobile data.
5. Are your settings correctly set to back up photos?

If you have confirmed that your phone has been backing up your photos in the past (or waiting to be backed up), please follow these steps to double confirm they were backing up to the correct account:

1. At the top left, tap Menu .
2. Select Settings > Back up & sync.
3. Under "Backup account", look at the email address. Is your phone backing up to the right account?

If so, please take a photo with your phone now and see if it pops up on photos.google.com.
If not, please log into the Google account that’s listed, and see if you find your photos.

 

Lastly, let's use Google Takeout to see if Google has any record of the photos in your account:

1. Use Google Takeout to request a copy of Google Photos data
2. Once you receive a link to your archive, search within the files you download to see if the photos are there. Have you found any missing photos?

Yes we saw them on different devices these pictures are from year's and year of family events and vacation. We have seen them before on the phone and on the computer. We have not delete any lately. We noticed because all the contact photo are gone. The only photos on google hot are the ones current on the device itself. It say it backing up. Could you please confirm if you're trying to restore some photos? If yes, please check if the photos are present in the Trash of Google Photos? If yes, please restore them through the below steps:

• On your Android phone or tablet, open the Google Photos app .
  
• At the top left, tap Menu.
  
• Click on Trash.
  
• Touch and hold the photo or video you want to recover.
  
• At the bottom, tap Restore. The photo or video will be back:
• In your phone.

If you are on Android, I believe you can print at home by opening the photo in the app, selecting more (three dots, top right), then scrolling right along the icons that show up (Add to album, Move to archive, etc.) until you see Print. My print icon is the last icon when I scroll sideways.

 

If you want to order a photo print from Google (I don't personally recommend this with a screenshot -- it will be low quality), you can select the photo by tapping and holding the photo in the app and tapping the shopping cart in the top right. You can then choose to order "Photo prints" and other items.

Welcome to the Google Photos Help Community.

If you delete from the Google Photos folder in My Drive:

• If you delete individual photos or videos, they will be removed from Google Photos.
  
• If you delete folders (including the Google Photos folder), photos and videos won't be deleted in Google Photos. This is to avoid deleting all your photos and videos by accident.
  
• If you move photos from the Google Photos folder to a different folder and delete them from there, they'll also be deleted in Google Photos.

Since last update, my Google photos cannot upload photos. This includes the automatic background or clicking on the cloud.

The only way to upload is to add photo to an album.

This is irrelevant to size and number of photos. Even one single photo has difficulty uploading.

I use a pixel.

I have tried cache clearing on Google photos and Google services app. Also uninstall/reinstall latest updates.

I do understand the inconvenience as you're unable to upload photos to your Google Photos. Therefore, I recommend trying the steps below in sequence, this may help in fixing the issue:

• Make sure your device is up-to-date.
  
• Make sure the App is up-to-date.
  
• Try restarting the App through the following steps:
  
• Go to your App Settings.
• Click stop on the afflicted App with the Force Stop button.
• Wait a few seconds to make sure the App has stopped processing, and then attempt to re-start it.
• Close the background running apps through the following steps:
  
• Go to your App Settings.
• Display the Active Apps on your device.
• Select the App you wish to close and Force Stop it.
• Repeat this step with all active Apps.
• Try clearing your App cache through the following steps:
  
• Tap the system Settings tab on the main screen of your device.

• Tap Storage in the General tab.
• Clear the cache data once storage calculates the data.
• Back out of the storage section.

Infact, I had problems with the Timezone, edited it and got two pictures.

Than I deleted one and checed, if the other one is still there, it was.

Then, as soon as I deleted my trash, the other one disapeard allso.

Although your query is unrelated to the forum, I am trying to help.

However, that's possible only if you were using an android phone earlier also.

Then, visit the play store, tap the hamburger menu (three horizontal bars at the top left corner). Tap My apps & games. Tap Library. There, you will find all the apps you have used on your earlier phone to date. Tap install for all the desired ones & then you will get back all the apps to your new phone.

Please note that, due to a variety of reasons, not all files can be recovered - but you can try!

 

1. Items deleted from your photos.google.com are stored in trash for 60 days and then are Auto-Deleted from trash and can not be recovered.

 

2. Items deleted manually from photos.google.com/trash can not be recovered.

 

3. Items deleted from your YouTube Channel can not be recovered.

 

4. Items deleted from your Gmail are stored in trash for 30 days and then are Auto-Deleted from trash and can not be recovered.

 

5. Items manually deleted from Gmail trash can not be recovered.

 

6. Items deleted from your Google Drive  will be stored in Drive Trash for 30 days and then be Auto-Deleted from Trash and can not be recovered.

 

1).If you are using a regular personal account

You will have to contact a Google Drive Specialist who *MAY* be able to restore it. Use this link:

I want to create my own photo albums. Google is creating new ones that I didn't ask for.

You always can create your own albums - simply do neglect what Google creates and that are no albums which can be shared, but search examples and does not take storage space. 

Your own albums don't take space either, because the pictures stay in the mainstream and your album contains links to the mainstream only.
