Hi Teresa,

Welcome to the Google Photos Help Forum.

Just to let you know, if you'd delete a photo from your Google Photos, it will also delete the photo from the below places:
  • photos.google.com and any synced devices
  • Google Photos albums
  • Google Photos movies when you edit them.
  • Google Drive, for photos and videos that are synced with Google Drive.
  • Any shared albums you may have added them to.
However, the photos and videos you'd delete are not automatically removed from Blogger, YouTube, Gmail and Google+.

For more information, please check the Help Center Article on deleting photos and videos.

Hope this helps.

Hello Antonio,

You might consider setting up a new user account.

After creating a new user you can switch to it and set up a completely separate profile with it's own Photos and camera settings.  For example I can switch between Home and Work and the two have no common apps or settings.  Switching is quick and would allow two Photo accounts to be used completely independently.

Even though your device may be cold to the touch, it could be too hot internally. This can happen if your device's processor or memory gets hung up on a particular task. You can use a task manager app to resolve this issue, or you can power off the phone and let it cool down for a few minutes.

I wonder if anyone can help me. I have google photos installed on the app on both my iPad and my iPhone. All of my photos are on my iPhone in google photos but not on my iPad in google photos. I've tried backing up, uninstalling the apps, restarting my devices.  The photos I've taken today are on both devices but there seems to be 100's of photos just missing from holidays and weddings and not synching to my iPad! Help! I'm not technically minded so any help will be appreciated.

Backup my photos will never ever end at this rate! I have 400,000 photos.  I know I had to switch to backup sync and I understood it would have to re-index all photos and upload them again.  But after many days of uploading it had about 100,000 to go.  But my windows wasn't acting right so I had to stop the upload and reboot my system a few hours ago.  Now it is looking at all my photos again and it has started uploading photos and directories it did LAST time.  So it looks like it is going to start at scratch and upload all 400,000 again! WTF ... Google needs to bring back the old photo sync program because this one is broken and not make us switch until it has been fixed.

At this rate every time I reboot my system it will want to upload 400,000 every time! That is nuts!

Answer:

I have the same problem. The original Photos backup only looks for new photos and only backs these up taking about 5 minutes at Windows start up.
The new Backup and Sync takes around seems to to compare very photo I have and takes around three hours running everytime I start up windows to do the same thing.
I have configured it to ONLY back up photos but I have had to revert ot the original Photo Backup to stop all my bandwidh being taken up comparing every photo I have every time I start Windows.

Answer:

I've noticed this issue myself. I have Backup & Sync set to scan one folder to upload/sync about 8,000 photos. I do not use auto-upload from my phone because I want to go through my photos and decide what to keep.

And yet every time my computer restarts, Backup & Sync seems to resync everything, at enormous cost of my time, my laptop's CPU, and my internet bandwidth to do other things. Just now, I rebooted following some Windows 10 updates and it resynced everything. Then I changed one minor setting on Backup & Sync (so that it asks me whether to remove items from everywhere), and upon clicking "OK" to save my change it is now resyncing again!

I should add on that on very few of these scans (and none today) do I actually have new photos to upload. But for my 8,000 photos it may take 45-60 minutes to conduct this scan. If this persists I will be forced to remove Backup & Sync from having permission to run on startup, and just run it periodically so it doesn't get in my way.

Answer:

Same issue, I have over 120,000 photos that I want backed up, 90% of them were already backed up. I left it running for a week and it succeeded in backing up 118,267 photos before Windows Update forced my computer to restart. Now it's back at 928 of 22,853 (and counting)... ridiculous.

Answer:

and at the end it shows that 33423 items have been skipped because there are already in Google Photos, time and again. It seems it doesn't remember that those files were already uploaded and it checks every... single... time...

Answer:

POSSIBLE FIX -
If you open Google Drive from Backup n' Sync (B&S)  taskbar icon -

....click on the drop-down arrow next to "My Drive" &

.....look for the folder named "Google Photos". This is the folder previously used by good ol'e Photos Backup (may he rest in peace) :'(
Delete "Google Photos" folder.

......then go to the Google Drive Bin ((or "Trash" for USA)) ...on the web - left column, 3d from the bottom icon, and make sure you delete it from there too. (....and no ....this does not delete your collection of pictures in Google Photos !!!).

Also ...for good measure (try without this first, as to be honest - it might not be necessary!!!)
......((THIS MIGHT CAUSE ISSUES FOR MAC USERS APPARENTLY - and may possibly be counted towards your Drive quota if you have Photoshop "psd" files, etc and have not chosen to ignore them - SO TRY WITHOUT THIS CHANGE - See PeteranDi comment, 16 replies down from here)) ........change the setting from sync "Only Photos and Videos" TO ...."All files and folders

......Make sure Google Drive (on the web) has the following setting UN-ticked (click on the cogwheel "Settings" icon at the top right of the web page - next to the Help-query icon)..... "Create a Google Photos folder" = UN-TICK & click DONE.

B&S gets stuck in a stupid never ending loop of time wasting, bandwidth chomping, processor hogging, because it's trying to sync not only the folder you've just told it to backup (where your pics reside on the PC / laptop) but also the "OLD" "Google Photos" folder in My Drive. Realizing time after time after time ...etc ....that it can't have the same versions of the photos / videos synced on G-Photos.... so goes back & tries again, and again, and again (every reboot) ...just in case Mr Google has changed the rules while you'd put your computer to bye-byes ....which he hasn't !!! STUPID thing!

After I restarted my laptop, having deleted the offending folder (and checking Google Photos in a sweaty fear that I'd deleted forever, my beloved 30,000+ photos & videos I'd spent many an hour editing & saving.....but were still there ...fully intact and edited) .... B&S chomped it's way through everything again .....but this time ... ONLY ONCE !!!! HOO-FLIPPING-RAAAAHHHH.

Now ....it spends about 20 to 30 seconds on reboot, making sure it's done it's job of backing up ...maybe letting you know of a couple it can't sync (but doesn't tell you why .... tut-tut), ..then lets you and your computer get on with your day. FINALLY. .....it's tamed (pat on the li'll head to B&S).

Mr Google ......if only you'd told B&S not to bother looking at the "My Drive / Google Photos" folder in the first place, ....ever, never, and forever...then li'll B&S as well as the rest of the worlds community of photograph savers, might have been prevented from wasting a good proportion of time, energy, reboots, patience, and the excessive use of not-so-friendly naughty words!!!
Good luck.
Dave.

Answer:

@Jeffrey
We can't explain that behavior, but perhaps you never have contacted the Google Drive team about this.
Because you already have good alternatives, I would suggest to switch-off the Google app completely.
Besides: if you want to have neat albums on Google, you should not even have started with that app.

I'm backing up photos from across all my Apple devices. Today I started trying to back up my iMac. I installed the uploader. It automatically located the 2 folders I needed to backup. I set it to upload at original size and told it to start. The number of files it says it's located just keeps climbing... it's currently up over 72,000 and counting. There are actually only about 10,000 photos and videos. On top of that, it appears to be backing up some of the photos to Google Drive and some of them to Google Photos. When I scan through them some of them show up in both places and some only show up in one or the other. Seems like this backup is a royal mess. Is this a universal problem? Any suggestions on how to fix it?

Hi Team,

Unfortunately i have deleted photos in my account and also on the trash folder, the pics are very much important to me and i want the photos to be recovered back.

I deleted it from the trash after sharing it in an album thinking it would make another copy of the images.

It will be an immense help if you could help recover them.
I deleted from photos and later from the bin.

Thanks,

Following is text from the official Google Photos Help page about deleting and restoring photos and videos:

Restore photos & videos
If you deleted an item and want it back, check your trash to see if it’s there.
  1. On your Android phone or tablet, open the Google Photos app .
  2. At the bottom, tap Library  Trash .
  3. Touch and hold the photo or video you want to restore.
  4. At the bottom, tap Restore. The photo or video will be back:
    • In your phone’s gallery app
    • In your Google Photos library
    • In any albums it was in
If the item is not in your trash, it may be permanently deleted.
    Important:
    • If you delete a photo or video that’s backed up in Google Photos, it will stay in your trash for 60 days.
    • If you delete an item from your Android device without it being backed up, it will stay in your trash for 60 days.
    • If you see a photo or video in Google Photos that you think you deleted, it might be on a removable memory card. To delete it, use your device’s gallery app.
    Empty your trash
If you see a request to "Delete permanently" when you try to move an item to trash, your trash is full. Your trash can hold 1.5GB.

Important: If you empty your trash, you permanently delete any items in your trash.

Don't see the photo or video?
If a deleted photo or video isn't in trash, you can’t restore it. You won't be able to restore a photo if:
    • You moved it to trash more than 60 days ago.
    • You moved it to trash, then emptied your trash.
    • You permanently deleted it from your trash.
    • You permanently deleted it from your device’s Gallery app, without backing it up first.
When you attempt to manually empty the trash bin in Google Photos, a warning message box appears that explains you are about to permanently delete those pictures and videos. If you choose to proceed anyway, there is nothing that any of the volunteers in this forum can do to help you recover your pictures.

The information on the following Google Photos Help pages will help you become more familiar with finding, deleting, and restoring your pictures:

If you deleted pictures or videos that were not previously backed up to your account through the Google Photos app, then unfortunately there's nothing that Google or any of the volunteers in this Help Community can do to recover them.

Files that existed only on your phone, ones that were never uploaded to the cloud, cannot be recovered or restored by a cloud storage service. Simply put, Google can't help you recover files it never had in the first place

That being said, if you would like to see this feature implemented in the future, I recommend leaving feedbackabout it through the following steps:

Very confusing app. I am trying to clean up my "photos" tab by moving images to a specific device folder. However, some images can be moved and some can't. I can add images to albums but those album images can't be added to a device folder?

Some images can be deleted from device and some can't?

Anyone have some advice on how to manage this cleanly?

Lol I am so confused. I just wanted to organize my images by folders on my device so that I can archive them from the all Photos tab....but it's becoming increasingly difficult to do so...

      Answer:

Device folders contain physical files stored on your phone.
Albums created in Photos are no physical folders and only contain reference to selected pictures on the general photos page (your library). They only are at google and can't be moved into device folders.
If a picture is deleted by you in library, it also will be removed from any album you have used it and from a device folder if still present there.
If a picture is removed from a device folder, it will not be removed from Photos if it is already stored at Google.
That are the rules, but I agree that Google is not very clear about and most people don't even try to read anything like this link and much more.
Google is your archive and you can download to your computer straight from https://photos.google.com

Deleted Photos are stored in Trash for up to 60 days, if you delete Photos again from trash, that's two times deletion.

Unfortunately, once Photos are deleted from trash there is no way to retrieve them back :(

There are duplicates of images appearing in my Google Photos feed. The problem is that this was a single image that was uploaded one (1) time.

The filename, date, resolution, etc. are the exact same for both images. If I change the timestamp for either one of the images, the duplicate disappears! If I change the date back to the original date (which I want to preserve - this is a requirement), the duplicate reappears.

In Google Drive I have the setting turned on to make a "Google Photos" folder that is a copy of everything that goes to Google Photos. In this folder, there is exactly one copy of this image. If I delete either copy of this image in Google Photos, the image in Google Drive is deleted.

Here is am image of the duplicate.

      Answer:

      Hi Alex,

Welcome to the Google Photos Help Forum.

I do understand the inconvenience as your photos are getting duplicated in your Google Photos. But unfortunately, it is not possible to automatically delete the duplicate images of your Google Photos.

That being said, if you would like to see this feature implemented in the future, I recommend leaving feedback about it through the following steps:
      • Open Google Photos.
      • Click on Menu.
      • Select Send feedback.
      • Click on Send.
The product team reviews the feedback regularly and uses it to better improve the product overtime.

Therefore, you can delete the duplicates manually through https://photos.google.com/ where the photos should be next to each other except when date & time was changed.

Let me know if you have any other questions.

      Best,
      Emma

Can I store photos in Albums and remove them from the main library?

I've seen other posts saying this is not possible but it MUST be possible.

I have 15.000 photo's and want to order them. But they keep on staying in my main gallery. This doesn't seem very hard to make, why doesn't google have already made this?

      Please help!

      Answer:

      Hello, Trailers 2481

      Thanks for your query.

The present features in the app continue to display pictures in the main gallery even when we include those in some albums.

One irritating workaround would be putting everything into the archive.
Then, the pics will remain visible in albums only.
However, we can't use these pics to create movies or animations.

Nevertheless, you can suggest the feature through the help & feedback route. Once a sufficient number of users request that we may see an enhancement in the future.

      Answer:

Albums on Google Photos are no folders with copyfiles, but with links only which take no additional storage. And within albums you can sort on different ways - see Albums edits under the 3 dots.
Thereby the mainstream needs to stay for creating as many albums as you need - even temporarily.
That's the way GP is designed.

If you don't like that, you better may use Google Drive or OneDrive which can sync with your pc.

      Answer:

The answer of mr UNKNOWN does not explain why the mainstream is needed (also for managing and searching) and will not disappear - even after thousands of feedbacks.

Question: Why i can not search photos by face in search option.

I can't search photos by face in search option

      Hello, Mahendra Kumar 2218

Welcome to Google Photos Community Support Forum & thanks for your query.

To enable search photos by face, first, you will have to activate face grouping through the settings.
      To do so :
      Tap your profile icon.
      Tap photos settings
      Tap Group similar faces.

Once done, the app will create the grouping in the background.
It may take four to six hours to complete the grouping. After that, you will see a new row in the search tab under the heading people.

I am using google photos, and this isn't a huge deal, but when showing faces, it thinks my brother is me, and it is showing very few photos in his gallery, and like 13 thousand photos of me. Is there a way to get the pictures of him to his category all in one go? Or is it un-fixable? Again, not a huge deal, just a small question.

I have two google accounts, and I only want my photos to backup to my main personal one however they are backing up to both accounts. I have both accounts open on my google photos iOS app and I don't have backup turned on for either from my phone. I backup to my main account thru my laptop which doesn't have the other account on it.

      Answer:

      Hello, DasbachPhotos

Welcome to Google Photos Community Support Forum & thanks for your query.

If you haven't turned on backup through your phone, nothing will be uploaded to the cloud through that.

However, it will be useful to know whether you are downloading the photos to a laptop or connecting your phone to that to enable uploading.

Also, have you turned on Partner sharing? Then the photos from one account will be visible through the other one also.

      Answer:

      Hello DasbachPhotos,

The Google Photos app acts as a portal to view the Device copy AND the Google Photos 'backed up' copy. It does not store any photos.

The act of seeing photos when using the app just means it is looking at the camera roll.

You can check at photos.google.com by signing in with each account to check which account has been backed up.

      Regards,

Question: Cannot close this application since a week

When I try to close the application it never closes..

      Hello, MOHAMMED RAHAMEEN

Welcome to Google Photos Community Support Forum & thanks for your query.

Are you saying, the app doesn't minimise when you tap the back button? Then please tap the home button to come out of that. Then through the settings on the phone delete the stored data & next restart the app.

Or, is it so that the app remains on top even if you tap the home button? Then, you may have invoked app pinning inadvertently.
To remove that please touch the home & back button simultaneously. Then that will unpin the app.

Question: I can't sher my video throws any app to my frind

I want to share my videos or photos to other apps to my friends

      Hi Grace,

I can share photos by opening the Google Photos app, selecting the photos I want, then pressing the share button at the top right. This will show me a list of apps that I can send the photos to. Is this not the case for you?

Sometimes, if you open another app like WhatsApp and you want to send a photo, not all your photos will show up. This is because some of your photos are stored in the cloud to free up space on your phone. If you want your photos to show up in WhatsApp when you click "Attach Photo," you can save them to your device so that WhatsApp can "see" them:
      1. Open the Google Photos app
      2. Tap on a photo you want to download
      3. Tap More (three dots, top right)
      4. Tap "Download" or "Save to device"
      5. Now check your other app and the photo should be there
Let me know if this helps,
