Restore photos & videos
If you deleted an item and want it back, check your trash to see if it’s there.
  1. On your Android phone or tablet, open the Google Photos app .
  2. At the bottom, tap Library  Trash .
  3. Touch and hold the photo or video you want to restore.
  4. At the bottom, tap Restore. The photo or video will be back:
    • In your phone’s gallery app
    • In your Google Photos library
    • In any albums it was in
If the item is not in your trash, it may be permanently deleted.
    Important:
    • If you delete a photo or video that’s backed up in Google Photos, it will stay in your trash for 60 days.
    • If you delete an item from your Android device without it being backed up, it will stay in your trash for 60 days.
    • If you see a photo or video in Google Photos that you think you deleted, it might be on a removable memory card. To delete it, use your device’s gallery app.
    Empty your trash
If you see a request to "Delete permanently" when you try to move an item to trash, your trash is full. Your trash can hold 1.5GB.

Important: If you empty your trash, you permanently delete any items in your trash.

Don't see the photo or video?
If a deleted photo or video isn't in trash, you can’t restore it. You won't be able to restore a photo if:
    • You moved it to trash more than 60 days ago.
    • You moved it to trash, then emptied your trash.
    • You permanently deleted it from your trash.
    • You permanently deleted it from your device’s Gallery app, without backing it up first.
When you attempt to manually empty the trash bin in Google Photos, a warning message box appears that explains you are about to permanently delete those pictures and videos. If you choose to proceed anyway, there is nothing that any of the volunteers in this forum can do to help you recover your pictures.

The information on the following Google Photos Help pages will help you become more familiar with finding, deleting, and restoring your pictures:

If you deleted pictures or videos that were not previously backed up to your account through the Google Photos app, then unfortunately there's nothing that Google or any of the volunteers in this Help Community can do to recover them.

Files that existed only on your phone, ones that were never uploaded to the cloud, cannot be recovered or restored by a cloud storage service. Simply put, Google can't help you recover files it never had in the first place

Question: How can I consolidate all my photos?

I have photos on my PC, an external hard drive, Google Drive, Google Photos, several phones and cameras. I would like to consolidate them all and am looking for the best way to do this without creating lots of duplicates. I am using a Windows 10 PC which has back up and sync installed.

If I create one folder on my PC's hard drive and put everything in it, can I search and sort the photos using the date they were taken? This seems like the only way I can detect duplicates. I could then sync this folder with Google Drive or Photos and have everything on  my PC but backed up on the cloud. Is that right?

    Answer:

    Hi Deborah!
Welcome to the Google Photos forum!
In Google Photos, files will be placed in the feed according to the date of the files.  For example, you took a picture in 2003, and if you edited it in 2019, then the automatic system may see the file name as 2019.
This must be understood when uploading photos to the service

That is, you can have any date in your photo collections, as you like, but the automatic system will determine the file name by the date that is in EXIF.

How can you upload your Photos?
You select a folder on the device and upload it to the service, then you immediately place these photos into the album, and then:
    • the files themselves may not be by the date of shooting, but by the date of the file,
    • but the album will contain all the photos as you need.

    Also, you can:
    — use Auto Backup & Synk
    — or upload photos directly from your computer.

    Answer:

    Addition
You should create subfolder for each device to keep some basic organisation and these also are synced to Google Drive. But Google Photos only picks the files - not the folders and only can sort on real shooting dates correctly - so social media files with all data stripped, will land at random positions.

Google Photos avoids duplicates unless their metadata is different, but different filenames are neglected.

If you have lots of large raw-files and you choose High Quality, then they will get converted to jpg's. So if you already have edited versions in jpg-format you should exclude the raw-files under Change.

As long you are busy with downloading from devices and organising in subfolders, B&S should be switched-off to prevent chaos.
This is an extreme project, so be carefull and don't hurry - you have time until June 1 before everything uploaded at High quality will start to count for storage at Google :-)
    Good luck

      • Tap the General section of settings that is on the far right.
      • Tap Storage in the General tab.
      • Clear the cache data once storage calculates the data.
      • Back out of the storage section.
      • Tap Applications and find the application in question.
      • Tap the application and clear the cache (if available).
      • Clear the data for the application if there is no cache to clear.
      • Exit the settings screen and restart the device.

      Hi Ann Barber 1180!
Welcome to the Google Photos forum!
How could other people's photos (other files) get to your device and Google account?
      1. Data exchange functions between devices, for example Bluetooth, when you could accidentally tap on a notification at the top of the screen on your phone and receive a file
      2. Other ways of exchanging data for modern latest devices that allow you to instantly share information, including via WiFi
      3. From  third-party apps like Instagram, TicTok, Pinterest, or messengers like WhatsApp, Viber, ets when you could view someone's photo or video.
4 from your email, when someone could send you files,
5 from Google Photos, when you could view someone's photos or albums,
      6 from MMS,
7 from sites or social networks where people post their photos.
These are the main sources for obtaining third-party photos.

Remember please, perhaps you could have clicked something to accept the file, or download something.

My screenshots used to appear in a album in my Google Photos. All of a sudden, they are not going there and I cannot find them. Articles mention backup, but no option for that. Why is this happening now and not before? Frustrating!!

        Answer:

First I'd recommend using a file browser app (some Androids come with one, might just be called "Files", others require you to download one, Google has a "Files" app you can download if needed) and see if you can find the screenshots folder, it's potentially different for each Android manufacturer. On my LG it's under Pictures\\Screenshots, I think Samsung does DCIM\\Screenshots.

If you can't find this folder, or the missing screenshots aren't showing there, then this is an issue with the phone not Google Photos.

If you can find this folder in a file browser app, then in Google Photos go to   and Device Folders, it should show up there and you can tap the  to enable sync if desired (or back up individual photos)

        ====================End Question=====================

Question: i have lost my photos from november till today.

i dont know what to do . i search in all my photos.

        Hi there,

I’m sorry to hear that you can’t find your photos. Please bear with me as this is quite a long post since there are a lot of steps to go through to have the best chance of finding your lost photos.

        First, please answer these questions:
        • Do you recall seeing your photos at photos.google.com?
        • Do you recall seeing your photos on a different device?
        • Do you recall deleting photos from the Google Photo's app, or your phone's gallery app?
          • Did you use the Free Up Space feature to do so?
Unfortunately, if you never saw your photos on the website and/or a different device, there is a chance that the photos were never actually backed up to Google’s servers. I know this is tough to hear, but please try all the steps in this post as they might be hidden away somewhere you didn’t know of.

Please navigate to these places on a computer and see if your photos appear:
Please also log in to all the links above with all other Google accounts of yours, as you might have accidentally been backing up to a different Google account. Have you found your photos? If so, where were they located?

Let's also make sure the photos are being backed up correctly:
        1. Open Google Photos .
        2. At the top, tap Menu  Settings.
        3. Tap Back up & sync.
        4. Check your settings:
          • Back up & sync: Make sure "Back up & sync" is turned on.
          • Backup account: Make sure you back up your photos and videos to the right Google Account.
          • Back up device folders: If you want to see photos and videos from other apps or devices in your Google Photos library, make sure you turn on your available device folders.
          • When to back up: Make sure you know when Google Photos backs up your photos and videos. You can choose to back up items over mobile data.
        5. Are your settings correctly set to back up photos?
If you have confirmed that your phone has been backing up your photos in the past (or waiting to be backed up), please follow these steps to double confirm they were backing up to the correct account:
        1. At the top left, tap Menu .
        2. Select Settings > Back up & sync.
        3. Under "Backup account", look at the email address. Is your phone backing up to the right account?
If so, please take a photo with your phone now and see if it pops up on photos.google.com.
If not, please log into the Google account that’s listed, and see if you find your photos.

Lastly, let's use Google Takeout to see if Google has any record of the photos in your account:
        1. Use Google Takeout to request a copy of Google Photos data
        2. Once you receive a link to your archive, search within the files you download to see if the photos are there. Have you found any missing photos?
Please get back to me after answering the underlined questions from above.

        Best of luck,
        Leo

Question: I can not open my old photos , after issuing stirage restrection rule .How can I see my old photos?

        No.

        Hello, Ajith Gunasekaran

Welcome to Google Photos Community Support Forum & thanks for your query.

The storage limitations rules are going to come into force after 31st May 2021.

Even after that, you will continue to use the service till you do not exceed the free limit of 15GB.
The restrictions will apply after you cross that limit. Then you may have to purchase additional space on Google one so that you do not lose access to your photos.

        Hello, Ivan Pardo 7938

Welcome to Google Photos Community Support Forum & thanks for your query.

Google Photos backs up and syncs photos only & not contacts.

Nevertheless, you will find some information about how to sync your contacts, in these two articles.

Question: Sir my some pic permanent delete pls help me

Sir my pic permanent delet me use bapis kese lauu

        yadu yadav,

Following is text from the official Google Photos Help page about deleting and restoring photos and videos:

          Regards,
          ~ Greg

Question: Sir my some pic delet

          My some pic delet

          Hello, yadu yadav

Welcome to Google Photos Community Support Forum & thanks for your query.

Did you delete the photos from your phone? If that is so, the action will remove the pics from Google Photos also.

But, if your action is not older than sixty days, you can still find those photos in the Bin.

To see the bin, please tap the library option visible at the bottom of the app.
Tap the Bin icon. Next, select multiple pictures which would be visible there and then tap restore. That will bring back the pictures to Google Photos but not on your phone.

However, if your action is older than sixty days, then regret, there is no way to get those photos back.

          3. Under "Past orders," select the canvas print you want to contact us about.

          Hello, Lisa Ann Shoemaker

Sorry to note your phone is capturing random screenshots.
However, that problem is not related to Google Photos.

You will have to scan the phone for malware or look for some repair service to remove hardware malfunction if any.

How to share multiple albums with a group of people

          Hi Stacy,

Welcome to the Google Photos Help Forum.

Here are the steps that would help you to share 8 different albums through Google Photos with your group of friends:
          • Open the Google Photos app.
          • Sign in to your Google Account.
          • Select a photo, album, or movie.
          • Tap Share.
          • Tap To and select people to share with. If you're part of a family on Google with at least 2 other people, select Family group to share with your family members.
          • Tap Done.
          • You can add a title or message, then tap Send. To manage these messages, go to the activity log.
For more information, please check the Help Center Article on sharing photos & videos.

          Hope this helps.

          Best,
          Emma

          Answer:

          Hello, Dylan 4461

Welcome to Google Photos Community Support Forum & thanks for your query.

Noted, after deleting a feature photo of a person the grouping was lost.

To reinstate that, you can try deselecting the group similar faces option and then reselect the option after some time.

One earlier thread suggests waiting for 1-2 weeks before you reinstate the option to get improved results.
You can read that in detail. The link is here.

          Searching google directions

          Hi Lori,

Google's photo sorting algorithm is good, but not perfect. Luckily, if you find a photo that is incorrectly tagged, you can manually re-tag it:
          1. Open photos.google.com or the Google Photos app
          2. Click on the photo you want to edit
          3. Click the (i) information button (or the three dots at the top left if you are in the app)
          4. Click the pencil icon next to "People"
          5. You can select the face in the photo and designate the correct face
Let me know if this helps or if you have any other questions.

Question: Can I transfer pictures from my Canon Camera to my chromebook via usb

Is it possible to transfer pictures from my canon camera to my chromebook or to google photos via us…

Yes, you can do this. When you connect a camera to your laptop, it usually appears as a removable drive. Open that drive and navigate to the pictures you want to upload to Google Photos. Copy/paste those images onto the laptop hard drive. (This isn't mandatory, but the hard drive will perform faster and be more stable than the USB connection to the camera.)

Open the Chrome browser and visit the Google Photos website. When the site is opened, you can simply drag and drop the pictures from your laptop's file browser onto the Photos website to initiate the upload.

Review the official Google Photos Help page about this if you need more detail.

          Answer:

There's probably a setting on the camera or the Chromebook that needs to be tweaked. If you can't figure it out by poking around in the settings, you should ask for assistance about this in the Chromebook forum since that's where the issue seems to be right now.
