If you setup a temporary partnersharing between your account, you also can choose to have saved all in your own account. That process may take a day or a week - I have no idea.

Thereafter you can break the partnersharing and then your company account can be ended without loosing anything, apart from albums. And that can be albums you have set-up yourself or it can be albums shared to you, but not saved into your own library. There simply is no fast and comfortable solution for these unless by sharing them to your personal account individually.

So living with Google is not comfortable at all, but nobody tells you that at start.

To bring back the pics to your phone's gallery, either, you can download photos one by one. Regrettably, there is no option to do so on a batch of photos.

Alternatively, you can install the Google One app there is a one time option to restore up to two hundred most recent photos to the device.

However, the local folder structure can not be restored.

To do so, there is no requirement to join Google One, the option is available to everyone.

However, the method may not be effective to recover something when the count is more than two hundred.

Currently videos are not supported as wallpaper. (Although I could choose an animated gif file as a wallpaper, it was not animated as a wallpaper and only showed a static image.)

You can make a feature request in the app so the team can track user interest.

BTW, in the wallpaper settings (long press on the desktop, select Styles and wallpapers, there is the option for live wallpapers which provide some movement or animation as the day progresses. You might want to give them a try.)

Instead it gives you the opportunity to share some selected photos or some albums created by you with trusted family and friends, but that is your own choice only.

But if you you don't need that, you can fully neglect the complex Google-app and just restrict to the Gallery-app installed by your phone manufacturer and if needed, you can send a few pictures per mail.

Your Android needs to be registered at Google for its general maintenance and safety and therefore you need a Google-account and that also allows you to use the Playstore for installing additional apps if needed (often too many).

But that account also can be used for mailing because a Google account is a Gmail-account. And then you have 15 GB space at Google for free to store these mails. And private apps like Google Drive and Google Photos also can make use of that space in cloud.

The Google Photos app on mobile devices is indeed confusing and thus unsafe if you do not know how it behaves. When a photo taken with your phone camera is uploaded, and you delete it in Google Photos, it will normally delete both the device copy and the uploaded copy. I will try to explain a bit how it does work:

When you take a photo with the phone, that photo is stored in a folder in the phone's memory. The "Galeria" is just an interface to show the photo, the photo is not IN the Galeria. Google Photos does the same: it shows you the exact same photo.
When you delete a photo in the Galeria, or in Google Photos, you delete the same photo. There is only one photo, but it can be shown by different apps, and also be deleted from different apps.

Original quality is on by default to respect users' image data and provide the highest quality backup. For those who don't need that large of an image file, then the other option is available. I expect most users just tap through, and the decision to backup original quality by default makes sense to me. Users who may not be as thoughtful as you may be frustrated if their original images are only backed up at smaller resolution by default, expecting instead for a backup to be just that: a backup.

You can use the feedback menu option in the Photos app to share your suggestions for a different option interface during app setup that would provide a better experience for users who have a clearer understanding of their needs.

I think a reclaim online storage option in the Android Photos app would also be nice. Although not the same idea, there is the storage manager at this link https://one.google.com/storage/management

and I like that because it's clear that storage is shared across Mail, Drive and Photos, so people may be able to reclaim some storage without affecting photo quality.

You can't use a photo stored on the cloud as your WhatsApp profile picture.

However, you can do that the other way. Now, WhatsApp can access the cloud storage in Google Photos.

To do so, tap on your current profile picture in WhatsApp through the settings on the app, tap gallery & then tap 3 dots. That will show an option to pick a picture through Google Photos.

The face recognition feature is still evolving & is likely to err particularly when faces are either near about or blurry.

Nevertheless, you can correct that manually through the following steps.

Tap to open the photo which contains incorrectly identified faces & then slide up or tap the three dots.
Tap the edit icon at the extreme right edge. (An icon of a pencil circled in the screenshot above). That will show identified faces in square boxes & their thumbnails at the bottom.
The ones with a - sign are the identified faces. Tap on that & the face will get transferred to the collection of thumbnails with + sign.
Now tap the + sign. Then the app will show you all the identified faces till that time. You can select the right one. Then the photo will get transferred to the right collection.

I can only guess that you are confused about what is happening, as far as we are aware, Google Photos does not backup photos a second time when the settings are changed.

Storage can be reduced by going to https://photos.google.com/settings and using the Recover storage option.

Review backup settings on Mobile

Open Google Photos .
At the top right, tap your account profile photo or initial Photos settings .
Tap Back up & sync.
Check your settings:
- Back up & sync: Make sure "Back up & sync" is turned on.

Review your upload size to the web

On your computer, open photos.google.com/settings.
Select High quality or Original quality for future uploads.

Review backup settings for the Backup and Sync computer app

On your computer, download and install Backup and Sync.
Sign in to the Google Account that you use for Google Photos.
Select to back up only photos or videos, or all files.
Select any folders you want to back up.
Under “Photo & video upload size,” select your upload size

I tried to relocate to Synology Moments after Google's decision to charge us for the photo backups. I exported all my photos and downloaded them by using Google Takeout.

The problem is: Google Won't let you to download your photos in the way that you upload to them. My point is, I uploaded all my photos for nearly 10 years to google photos, everytime I upload them, I sent my metadata which includes;

- where it was taken

- when it was taken

- when did it uploaded

But when you use google take out, they dump all the metadata in a JSON format which normal users won't even be able to use that to write that information back to the photos that they already own.

I believe that this is a legal issue. Unquestionably I supported google photos for 10 years, and uploaded all my photos with the metadata they have. But now when I use take out service, they dump all the metadata separately in json files where 99% of the users won't even be able to make use of.

I found a way to write them back into the photos, by using a commandline function and a separate library to execute that command from terminal, but the problem is IT WONT WRITE THE INFORMATION TO EVERY PHOTO YOU HAVE BUT ONLY A PORTION OF IT (%60 of the photos or so).

So you are simply abusing your users, you used all the photos we uploaded for your AI implementations, you used all the metadata we have, in return you provided storage services. But when I use take out, I want my photos in the way I uploaded them. I dont mind the format being different, but I want the damn metatags implemented pls.

If you can reach me that will be great before I go to consumer rights.

Please feel free to go to consumer rights, but before you do, as a volunteer who shares experience, I have never known metadata to be stripped from photos.

As far as I know only changes made to photos after uploading to Google Photos are included in json files. The original file is not modified.

Happy to be proved wrong if you can share a before and after example and allow me to see if there is a gap in my knowledge.

Nevertheless, can you please try to look at your collection through another route? Please enter the link https://photos.google.com in any of the web browsers available on your phone. Log into your account & then see whether the photos appear duplicated even through the web view.
