The face recognition feature is still evolving & is likely to err particularly when faces are either near about or blurry.
 
Nevertheless, you can correct that manually through the following steps.
  • Tap to open the photo which contains incorrectly identified faces & then slide up or tap the three dots.
  • Tap the edit icon at the extreme right edge. (An icon of a pencil circled in the screenshot above). That will show identified faces in square boxes & their thumbnails at the bottom. 
  • The ones with a - sign are the identified faces. Tap on that & the face will get transferred to the collection of thumbnails with + sign.
  • Now tap the + sign. Then the app will show you all the identified faces till that time. You can select the right one. Then the photo will get transferred to the right collection.
PS. The edit feature may not be available in some regions. If you happen to be from that, then regretfully nothing can be done.

Thanks for posting in the Google Photos Help forum.

Google Photos has identical duplicate detection, where if you have uploaded photos to Google Photos already, it will not re-upload the same photo (each photo file has a unique "Hash" that allows us to determine this).

Hence, Google Photos avoids uploading duplicates, when different upload methods or devices are used, as long as the photos aren't edited. There is no easy way to remove duplicates, but some of the following may help:

  1. You can delete duplicates manually, for example in https://photos.google.com/ where they should be next to each other.
  2. The problem is however which one to delete:
    • one photo may be edited, the other not,
    • one photo may be in an album, the other not.
  3. When the upload dates are different (for example when you uploaded long ago via Picasa, and now again using the Desktop uploader). It may be easier to delete the duplicates in https://photos.google.com/search/_tra_ where they are sorted by upload date.
  4. There are more ways to get a useful search result, for example the device from which they are uploaded.

  6. Since very recently it is possible to delete photos directly from an album. Go to "More options" (3-dots icon), and use "Move to trash"

Unfortunately, a feature to sort and delete duplicates of photos with Google Photos that are already backed up doesn't exist. You may have to manually select the duplicates and delete them.

Meanwhile, also try giving the below steps a try once again in a sequence to help resolve the issue:
  • Close the Google Photos app and re-launch it.
  • Sign out and sign back in to Google Photos with the same Google Account.
  • Clear App data:
    • Open your device's Settings app (not the Google Settings app).
    • Touch Apps.
    • Select Google Photos in the list.
    • Touch Clear data.
  • Update the Google Photos app on your Android phone:
    • Visit the Google Play Store.
    • Open Google Photos.
    • Touch on Update.

This is a big issue. For some reason Google is not letting me download the original file as it is on google photos information page. If you have deleted things you had backed up to GooglePhotos, you have actually lost that file unless you view it on Google Photos?

To my experience, when a photo is uploaded to Google Photos, then download, it has the exact same number of bytes. 

When you edit the photo in Google Photos you normally download an edited copy, which is a new JPEG and thus may not have the exact same file size. Note that, when you edited, you can also download the unedited original: click 3-dots > Download original. 

Finally, some programs do count a kb for 1000 bytes, others 1024, which may also explain a difference.

Pixels 3a to 5 have unlimited uploads at High Quality. Original size uploads use storage.
 
Head over to https://photos.google.com/quotamanagement  This should give a clue on where the storage is being used. Large photos and videos >5MB are listed and can be reviewed.
 
Also check at https://photos.google.com/unsupportedvideos where videos which cannot be converted to HQ are stored using Original size.
 
Storage may be reduced by going to https://photos.google.com/settings and using the Recover storage option.
 
If you need to subscribe to Google One you can Create a family group then share the storage between members and it can be used in addition to their own 15GB
 
Review backup settings on Mobile
  1. Open Google Photos .
  2. At the top right, tap your account profile photo or initial  Photos settings .
  3. Tap Back up & sync.
  4. Check your settings:
    • Back up & sync: Make sure "Back up & sync" is turned on.
Review your upload size to the web
  1. On your computer, open photos.google.com/settings.
  2. Select High quality or Original quality for future uploads.

When you attempt to manually empty the trash/bin in Google Photos, another warning appears that explains the consequences of permanently deleting those pictures and videos. 
If you choose to proceed anyway, there is nothing that any of the volunteers in this forum can do to help you recover your pictures.

Nevertheless, here is a full list of compatible formats.

Nevertheless, the video editor in Google Photos doesn't offer any conversion facility. You will have to look for some proprietary video editor to do so.

While freeing up the space of mobile storage  using Google photos by using Free up space option after the backup, it is clearing all the data in mobile. Instead of that , place an option for the folders which we need to keep or to remove in our gallery that we need to free up the space. Which will be very useful to keep some important folders even though backed up n free up using Google photos.

Create movie in auto awesome.  Sometimes movie works, sometimes it seems to work, yet when movie is downloaded or sent to YouTube it isn't the correct movie but more like a short generic auto awesome created movie, then sometimes I get the message unable to create with this set of photos.  Very frustrated.  I have made some good movies but now everything seems fubar.

I'm having the same issue. Google assistant will make movies, but I cannot create my own movie. I've even tried different photos, videos, combinations, etc. It's very frustrating. I've uninstalled and reinstalled the app multiple times as well.

I was having all kinds of issues after this error. I noticed that I was exceeding my 15gb of space, mainly with photos. Spent a few hours deleting a lot of photos I didn't need and things appear to be working better with Google immediately after.
