Question: Can't find what's app media files
Every media from what's app won't show in gallery
Hi, Urvisha Soni
Welcome to Google Photos Community Support Forum & thanks for your query.
Incidentally, the query doesn't relate to any features in Google Photos app.
WhatsApp hides the picture from the Google Photos app.
You will find directions in WhatsApp help pages on how to make those visible to other apps.
Unhide the folder as directed, then that will become visible in the list of folders to be backed up in Google Photos.

Now- with that out of the way let's deal with 리니 _ リ ニ's post in Google Photos.
Please note that, due to a variety of reasons, not all files can be recovered - but you can try!
1. Items deleted from your photos.google.com are stored in trash for 60 days and then are Auto-Deleted from trash and can not be recovered.
2. Items deleted manually from photos.google.com/trash can not be recovered.
3. Items deleted from your YouTube Channel can not be recovered.
4. Items deleted from your Gmail are stored in trash for 30 days and then are Auto-Deleted from trash and can not be recovered.
5. Items manually deleted from Gmail trash can not be recovered.
6. Items deleted from your Google Drive will be stored in Drive Trash for 30 days and then be Auto-Deleted from Trash and can not be recovered.
1).If you are using a regular personal account
You will have to contact a Google Drive Specialist who *MAY* be able to restore it. Use this link:

Hi, KRISHNA convention center
Welcome to Google Photos Community Support Forum & thanks for your query.
The Google Photos app doesn't have any provision to password-protect or hide photos or put a pin on the app.
You can suggest that feature through the help & feedback route.
As many users are expressing that requirement, we may see that improvement later on.

How do I share a photo slideshow? I love the "magic hour" you created, but when I try to share it only lets me pick photos and not display the slide show :(
Answer:
Hi, Rachel M 5831
Welcome to Google Photos Community Support Forum & thanks for your query.
These slide shows remain there for a short period & then vanish & get replaced by something else.
We can't share those with anyone, directly.
Nevertheless, you can use a workaround to do that. You can switch on the screen recorder & then start the slideshow. That will record everything.
Once over, you can backup that video in Google Photos & share it with anyone.
The screen recorder is now available on Android 11. If not, you can download a suitable screen recorder app through the play store.

I have found over 2500 photos all mixed in with my photos. The dates of the metadata on the photos range from 1998 to 2013, so it was not some big dump on a certain day. Many of these are photos these people took of pages from books. These people live a similar lifestyle to me in that I have lived aboard boats and traveled around the world and been to many of the same places, but not at the same time and I've never met these people. It almost makes me wonder if Google's AI thought these should be my photos because of certain similarities. I was able to recognize a boat name and I found a blog by some people in some of the photos and they live in Australia. I live in Turkey. I don't know how we could possibly be connected.

Hi Christine,
I would first recommend checking to see if someone has shared an album with you. You can find the shared albums within Google Photos.
- On your computer, go to photos.google.com.
- On the left, click Sharing.
- Under "Shared," you can see your shared albums and sharing activity, like comments and recently added photos. New sharing activity will be in bold.
Is there an album in there that has all the photos you are speaking about in it?

Sometimes I find a photo in Google Photos that I cannot find in one of my folders. If I share it with

"Sometimes I find a photo in Google Photos that I cannot find in one of my folders. If I share it with

- Are you talking about "Folders" on your computer? (you posted in the category "Web"). Then you can download the photo from Google Photos to where it belongs.
- Or do you mean "Albums" in Google Photos ? Then you can directly add the photo to the album:
- Either starting from the photo > Add to > Album
You can (in Google Photos on a computer) find the album by using Ctrl+F - Or start from the album, click "Add photos" and find the photo. Note that you can find the photo also by searching with parts of the filename, date etc
- Either starting from the photo > Add to > Album
Let us know when you mean something else or need more info.
Answer:
"I sometimes want to share photos with myself in order to forward them on to friends and family who do not want their contact info in the shared contacts list."
OK. You can:
- Select one or more photos (there will be no album in https://photos.google.com/albums, only in https://photos.google.com/sharing at the very end under "Show more")
or add them to an album (an album will be created in https://photos.google.com/albums but you can "hide" it. You can still see it in https://photos.google.com/sharing) - click the "Share" icon > Create link
- Copy the link (click "Copy)
- Paste the link in a mail or message.
The people receiving the mail do not see who was invited. They can "join" the album but do not have to. They can download the photos or add them to their own account.

My pictures have disappeared from google photos. I opened the app on Tuesday March 16 to find pictures for a birthday post and everything was there. When I went back onto the app on Friday March 19 to find a certain picture, I realized I had so many pictures missing like over 2000 pictures. I had pictures from my end of junior year, all of senior year, my high school graduation, graduation party, first semester of college, and all of those were GONE. I am also missing all of my pictures from a trip I took to Abu Dhabi. I double checked the trash and archives folder, but nothing was in there. I know for a fact that I did not delete any of those photos because there are so many memories attached to them. I was wondering if you could find them somewhere and they could be restored. I have tried the trouble shooting but the pictures are simply not there and I did not delete them. So, where are they?? Please help me find them because I would NEVER delete those pictures! Also, those pictures are no where else because I deleted them from my device since I thought I could trust google photos and everything would always be there.

Answer:
Hi, Jaden Lotis
Welcome to Google Photos Community Support Forum & thanks for your query.
The moment we delete a picture either from the cloud or from the phone, the sync action deletes the pic at the other end. That's the intended function of backup & sync.
Since you deleted the pics from your phone, these are gone from the cloud storage also.
Since you deleted the pics from your phone, these are gone from the cloud storage also.
However, the program retains a deleted item in the bin for sixty days. If your delete action is recent, you should be able to locate these in the Bin, unless you have emptied the bin.
You will find the Bin icon through the library view.
Answer:
I would advice to look in the Apple Photos app to the Recently deleted folder - locally deleted pics are hold there for 30 days before they are deleted permanently.
If most are there, they can be set back to your local library in Apple Photos and then they can be viewed in the Google Photos app also and can be synced to Google.
Good luck
PS: apparently you Google Photos app has had no chance to work properly for reasons unknown to me, so nothing was really copied to Google. But you should have checked that at photos.google.com before starting to delete your originals. Or you should have copied your originals to your computer if you have one.

Hi, DC 7915
Welcome to Google Photos Community Support Forum & thanks for your query.
The Sync operation replicates the action we take from one end to the other end also.
In this way, if we delete something from the cloud backup, that deletes the corresponding one on the phone & vice versa.
If you wish to retain the original on phone, you can adopt either of these two alternatives.
Disable Backup & sync & delete the one from the phone. However, then you should never turn that on again. Else, Google photos will sync & remove the photo from the cloud.
Move the photos on your phone to a non-backed up folder using some file explorer app & delete those. Then Google photos will not affect that.

To start the backup, you have to activate Backup & sync through settings. Then select the appropriate folders to backup, enable the use of mobile data if any.
Then the backup will start automatically.
However, your wording is sounding as if you want some old photos back as you have tagged "Recover".
If you have not backed up or have deleted those inadvertently and the action has past sixty days, then there is no way to get back those old pictures.

Answer:
Nicholas,
You may just need to be patient - if you just started with Google Photos you may have thousands of photos on your phone for it to parse thru. I've seen the "preparing tp back up" message stay for many hours.
If it gets to the point you need to "kick it" - here are the steps I recommend. For each step, if it doesn't help, go on to the next one:
- Force quit the Google Photos app by using the multi-tasking screen and swipe the app off the screen. When you open the app again, it is forced to start over.
- Restart the phone
- Uninstall and reinstall the app
If Backup still has not started, try manually uploading a few photos:
- To manually upload one photo: open the photo and tap the cloud icon with the up arrow
- To manually upload several photos, select them all, tap the 3-dot menu and choose Back Up

I understand how to select one or multiple photos when in thumbnail view. I want to select multiple photos to create an album. But, those thumbnails are often too small to see details, like closed eyes, so when I click on a thumbnail it shows that photo filling most of the screen. I cannot find anyway to select that one photo, and move to the next, and select, or not, the next photo, and so on for dozens of photos. So, I find myself clicking on a photo thumbnail to make it larger (only AFTER I remove all checkmarks on previous thumbnails), seeing a defect, going back to thumbnails, clicking on another thumbnail, checking it out, back to thumbnails and possibly selecting it, and so on. And then I have to remember which photos I wanted to select possibly among 5-6 thumbnails that are almost identical. There's got to be a better way, right?

Question: How can i recover permanently delete photos?
Hi, Sourav Sam
Welcome to Google Photos Community Support Forum & thanks for your query.
Emptying the bin i.e. deleting photos permanently is an irreversible action.
Regret, you will not be able to recover anything through Google Photos.
However, you can try recovery through your phone.
You may install to your Android device a deleted photo recovery app (be sure to pick one that doesn't require rooting) https://play.google.com/store/search?q=recover%20deleted%20photos&c=apps and run a scan for anything to recover.
Nevertheless, if your delete action happened in the distant past, chances of recovery through this route would be slim.

Hi, Melanie Agopian
Welcome to Google Photos Community Support Forum & thanks for your query.
The people search feature in Google Photos is evolving. That may fail to de-recognise some faces & then remove those from results.
You may see that face coming up again in an independent group after some time as the app keeps on going through the collection repeatedly.
However, if you do not wish to wait for that, you can do so manually.
You can add a person through the following steps.
Tap to open the photo which contains unidentified faces & then slide up or tap the three dots.
If the app had failed to include some faces in that picture, then you will see a prompt "XX faces available to add".
Tap the edit icon at the extreme right edge. (An icon of a pencil).
That will show identified faces in square boxes & their thumbnails at the bottom.
Tap on the + sign on each thumbnail.
Then the app will show you all the identified faces till that time.
You can select the right one.
If not, tap the + sign at the top right corner.
That would create a new grouping altogether.
Once created, the app may take some time to bring all the related pictures to this new grouping.
Otherwise, you can go through the collection & add the photos to the newly created group, manually, through the same steps as described above.

And back in the Photos-app, you can see these pictures also in your library (stream) and maybe also in some albums you have created. But in the library it are copies stored at Google and in albums it are no additional copies (that really would be duplicates), but just links to the pictures in the library.
So it is not automatically clear what you are trying to delete, but normally if you delete an original, also its copy at Google is deleted - or reverse: if you delete the copy at Google also the original is deleted.

Answer:
There is no better way and my thumbnails are not small either - even on my rather small 14 inch laptop screen. Like shown below in my Chrome-browser:

But you can enlarge the thumbnails a bit by browserzooming via Ctrl+ (Ctrl + zero is back to normal).
And we can't help that you leave too much "look-alikes" in your stream instead of the good ones only.
So I would suggest just do a selection from thumbnail view to create (or add to) an album and then go through the album one-by-one to remove the "bad ones" by viewing them full size via the # key.
We can't change Google, so if you have better ideas, post them via feedback in the main menu of the Photos-site.
Answer:
I do not know of a way neither, but a few workarounds:
- You can add "stars" when you select from the library (and remove them later). You can also add stars from within an album but only when you did not create a link. And stars are not shown in the thumbnail view of an album. Weird programming.
- You can immediately add the photos to an album from the expanded view. 3-dots > Add to album. You find the album by using Ctrl+F but after a few additions it should appear on top of the list. A lot of clicking though.
- You can open thumb view in one browser window and expanded view in another. Maybe not very practical but worth a try.

janvb I ended up doing #1 and then did a search for "favorites [date]" to get them in one place and created a shared album. #2 is a lot of clicking, and #3 is something I will try in the future. Thanks for the suggestions as it sounds like you've been there.
rinus Thanks for the reply but in Chrome and Safari a pinch in and out on a trackpad does the enlargement as well is a lot of work besides just showing a pixellated enlargement of the thumbnail. I view mine on a 27" iMac and cannot see closed eyes and if I go to full screen the thumbnails stay the same size. The "look-alikes" are not mine but a spouse who holds down the shutter button to eventually have everyone's eyes open and I try to eliminate 90% of her photos :).
Answer:
I would be curious to see a screenshot of such a marvellous 27" screen with the browser set to 100%
You can add that picture to a post via the paperclip.
But because its extreme resolution, the result maybe more worse then on my small Windows-laptop.
because I can go to 150% without much pixellation.
However: your iphone-spouse is the real problem, so the only thing you can do before even thinking about any album, is going through her pictures one-by-one full screen and then immediately trash what is not good enough. If her pictures are stored in your own library, they will not get removed indirectly from her iPhone, because then you will get in great trouble :-)
Answer:
@Don,
"it sounds like you've been there."
Not really: I avoid the problem by selecting the "keepers" on a computer before I upload. I still use Picasa3, and have the choice between "Delete" (one click) or "Hide" (2 clicks - in case of doubt). That workflow may not be the best choice for photos taken with mobile devices though, but I do by backing them up to OneDrive (is safer than Photos) and from there to the computer and Google Drive, but that is a lot of manual intervention as well if you shoot a lot with the phone (I don't).
Answer:
But even when you are on smartphone mainly, you can avoid syncing straight to Google by using the Dropbox or OneDrive or iCloud tric for temporary storage in the cloud and syncing to desktop in original quality for much more comfortable selecting and editing and then comfortable uploading in a new or existing album directly. But you should do that every day or every week - not after a year and then it is not much work at all and much better for your brains also.
PS: at uploading you can use the high quality setting in your browser for having free storage at Google.

Hi,
All I can suggest is that you read the Terms of Service: https://policies.google.com/terms?hl=en-US

I had a photo book printed for my mom to commemorate a special trip we took. The book turned out very washed out, low color saturation, and blurry!! All original photos were high quality and good color. How do I get them to reprint it?
Answer:
Hi Hadi
Double check your Google photos app to make sure they're still not in the trash. You may want to also check Google Drive to see if any images uploaded there.
If they were permanently deleted from the local storage, your next option would be to use a third party phone data recovery application. Typically you download the software to a computer, connect your phone via USB cable to the computer, and then use the software to attempt to recover from your phone's local storage. It will not attempt to recover from Google's online storage. I do not have a recommendation but you can do a Google search and research your options.
Best wishes
Joe
PS, in the future, to safeguard against accidentally deleting images to free up space be sure to only use the "Free up space" option in the left menu of Google photos. The software will only remove images from the local storage that it considers to be backed up.
Answer:

Second, could you please suggest me some third party softwares so that I can proceed for the same.
Third and the most important thing. How can google delete something even from your local mobile storage. If something is deleted from the Google photos it should be still in the local mobile storage
Answer:
Hi,
It's impossible to predict if the images can be recovered. You'll have to decide if it is worth the effort.
I don't have a recommendation for data recovery apps from local storage, you'll have to research the options to determine what is best for you.
Finally, here is a link that describes how to manage your images including the finer points of deleting images.

I keep getting the runaround with Google photos! Every search for "Help" only leads to the community forum! There is no customer service contact info to be found. Someone helpfully posted a link to submit a feedback message for damaged item, but when I go to submit it gives an error message and has me "refresh" which resets the page!

* Deleting photos from photos.google.com deletes my internal storage
* I believe the upload of High quality photos is free only for pixel mobile so if I back up the photos on computers it will be accounted towards by storage as well.
so let me know the best options.
Answer:
No simple solution available, so best to go on with original quality and just pay for additional storage.

Sorry - no Google here, but paying also includes support from Google.

Quota is shared between Gmail, Google Drive, and Google Photos.
Head over to https://one.google.com/storage/management and check if the storage is in any of the trash places, or large files in Gmail, Drive & Photos, or just below in Unsupported videos. This should give a clue on where the storage is being used.
You can Recover storage at https://photos.google.com/settings to reduce the storage used by Google Photos to zero.
