I had one gmail account that was backing up to my main account. The first account is set to delete in 90 days, but it's only been like two weeks so that can't be it. All of my pictures that are not screenshots or saved from a different account (like someone shared them with me) are gone. Not in trash, not archived, not on either account. I don't know where they went or why, has anyone had this happen before??? I don't know what to do!

Holding the shift key while moving the mouse over the last photo will select all in between, but you can only select and delete 500 at a time. You have to select the first, scroll down about 10 pages with the page down key, press the shift key and squiggle the mouse so they all highlight then select the last, then repeat another 30 or so times.

I am trying to beat the June 1 cutoff with some photos I had on my PC from an old phone. I put just those photos in their own folder on my computer and pointed the application at that folder. I have two questions I can't figure out.
1. I am watching the photos sync in the application and it keeps saying downloading for each one that is being uploaded. I can see the files are being uploaded in Photos but I am concerned it is downloading stuff and don't know where. 'Sync My Drive to This Computer' is unchecked and only that folder is check marked to be synced.

Answer:
Answer:
I did a test last night by creating a new folder with around 30 new photos in it. I then used sync but with a different gmail account that had no synced images. It proceeded to sync all of them with the subtext 'updating'. When done 'updating' it immediately went through them again with the subtext 'downloading'. I searched my drive for new files and examined file sizes and time stamps and there were no changes.

Some of my older photos are very out of order. Which EXIF dates does Google Photos use to arrange photos by date? Is it "datetimeoriginal"? Is there an order of precedence?
Answer:
Hi Melanie, DateTimeOriginal from ExifIFD with the newest photo at the top of the page. Don't forget it is UTC unless modified by the time zone, which is normally selected according to the location the photo was uploaded. Recently Backup and Sync leaves the time zone at 'none set' which is equivalent to UTC. Windows explorer has a Date Taken column which is read from the DateTimeOriginal, Regards, Peter
Answer:
Dear PeteranDI, Windows Explorer has a Date Taken Column which does not coincide with the date used by google photos. Google is trying to make our life difficult, and succeeding.
To be exact, if I change the date taken in google photos, it does not reflect so when I download and view them in Windows Explorer.
I get the impression that Google wants to make our life hell, should we choose to migrate to another cloud storage.
It is extremely annoying that having tried a dozen EXIF metada data programs in windows, none of them show me the date Google is using online.

Hi John,
>>> How do I save photos as a pdf file.
In iOS (and Android I am pretty sure, but don't have the hardware available to test) you can simply go to the 3 dot menu for an image and "Save as PDF" (see attached).

On a computer, most cloud or local word processing tools let you insert an image (or multiple images) and export a PDF.. Here is an example using Google Docs on a PC:

Have a good weekend and good luck.
Dougsap (volunteer Google Photos user)
Answer:
@John
You have a strange recipient, because if your photo is a normal jpg-file, everyone can view them.
But it maybe not easy to print a photo and thereby a pdf can be more comfortable.
The option showed by Doug maybe not present in the Photos-app on Android - not in mine at least - it probably is a special option in the Photos-app on iPhones or iPads.
And creating a document maybe to complex for you either.
There are a lot of convertors in the Playstore and one of these is the versatile Microsoft Lens which also can be used for scanning documents. If you select the picture in the Google Photos app, you can share that image to a lot of apps and then you select Microsoft Lens and after some editing you can save the image as a pdf indeed. That will go in your Files-app and can be found in your mail-app via the paperclip.
Good luck

I am trying to beat the June 1 cutoff with some photos I had on my PC from an old phone. I put just those photos in their own folder on my computer and pointed the application at that folder. I have two questions I can't figure out.
2. When it is processing the new folder it lists more files than what are there. It says 'Syncing 104 of 587' even though I only have 528 photos in that folder. It just keeps climbing as it syncs.

Answer:
Hello Ramone,
It sounds like you already had the folder previously chosen and present in Drive, and it is merging. Which means that if photos exist in Drive already they will download during the sync.
All you can do at this stage is to allow it to finish then check what happened.

Peter

Answer:
Hello Carlos,
when you change a date in Google Photos the actual photo is not modified. The new date is a database entry sitting alongside the photo in the cloud only.
Google does use the Windows Date Taken value when first uploading the photo. Any modifications after upload are not a permanenbt change to the photo,
Best Regards,
Peter
Answer:
Thanks for the response PeteranDi,
I still remember using Yahoo to search the Internet. I am used to Google's functionality and how temperamental it can be.
My problem yesterday was likely due an excess of duplicates in Google Photos, i.e. I downloaded a photo I had modified the date to 1/1/1960, deleted it, uploaded it again and it had the aforementioned date because I did not delete all duplicates. Today I have tried it with a new photo, with no duplicates and it has behaved as you comment.
As you mention, the database implies that any modifications are not permanent, nor easily exported.
Today I downloaded a folder from google drive with 450 files and it reported that 99 had not been downloaded, but after checking it was a positive, all the files where indeed downloaded.
his is one of a myriad of minor issues that I am used to when dealing with Google, with the emphasis in "minor". Today I downloaded a folder from google drive with 450 files and it reported that 99 had not been downloaded, but after checking it was a positive, all the files where indeed downloaded.

My workaround was to: Delete the photos out of Google Photos. Go in and correct the data taken field in the pictures. Then via Google Photos website manually pick the pictures that I needed to re-upload. When they then uploaded Google Pictures website had them in the correct chronological order.
A bit of work, but you can't blame Google if it is starting with bad information.
Answer:

My solution has been to quit fighting with the service, to stop trying to get it to behave like I expect it to, and instead have turned to archiving / deleting 95% of my images, as 1000 are far easier to manage than 20,000.
It is a WIN-WIN for all. The fewer photos the easier it is to find and share those moments, and Google Photos behaves much better.
In a sense it has been a learning process and despite Google Photos being one of the most "complicated" pieces of software, in the sense of an adolescent in puberty who refuses to be controlled or do what is expected, in dealing with it I have learnt about myself, to identify the important things and hold them close to me, whilst letting go of a lot of excess data that made me feel like a hoarder.
Stop fighting with Google, it changes and the fight never ends as it did back when programs were installed in our computers.
Stop hoarding data. Learn to delete. Learn to make room for the present, for the future.
Thank you @PeteranDi and best regards to all!
Good luck and goodnight!!

There's some photos already deleted from photos(including trash) still it was showing in recent highlights, these pictures were deleted 4-7 days ago. And some other photos which were deleted months ago i saw some pictures in Search > Help improve google photos>understanding your photos/printing preferences.

Creations are usually created within minutes or at least the first hour after being taken and are new images which remain after the originals are deleted.
As far as I know they are never deleted and are visible at Unsaved creations - Google Photos until you save them to your library or remove them.

There are no handy and simple methods because there is no need for because they can viewed in the Photos-app perfectly (in most cases you will have wifi or mobile data usage allowed if you need to view older pictures). And you can make nice albums for sharing or even share individual pictures with much better quality then via social media.
You can pinch two fingers together to get a day or a month view - just what is comfortabe for you.
And sometimes you may need to download one or two for some other app.
Have a nice weekend.
PS: in Whatsapp it is now possible to reach Google Photos via the paperclip > Gallery > 3 dots.

Google is a dumb company because they can know for years that (some) people want to download more then one sometimes and when they would have an iPhone, they perfectly can select a complete month by tapping its name and then download to device without the additional complication of creating a zip-package. It simply can't be explained why that not is possible in the same app on Android also.
So blame these teenagers by using the feedback option under your profile please, because it is a daily complaint of many because they were misleaded to use the free-up space option without getting warning warned much more clearly.
Apart from the automatic search collections, you perfectly can thematic albums yourself and because they are partly of your library at Google, they will survive your phone - which is not the case for any albums created in some local gallery. Besides: such albums can be downloaded to device or computer via your private site photos.google.com in the Chrome-browser. Then you can't avoid a zip, but that is not a large problem to handle in the Android filemanager.
Learn to live with Google and after a month you will agree that this is quite interesting and much more secure if you stay using the same account on your next device(s). And you can view your albums on TV via a simple & small Chromecast-unit.
Best

But,I wish there were another way. Thank you so much for your help!!!! I sincerely appreciate it.

@Adrienne
Where are all the photo before you have started with Google?
On iPhone you can select as many months you wish, but I don't know about any limits. Thereby working per month is faster and more safe then having a lot of troubles with 12 months.
Apart from that, I am hesitating to suggest the bulk method called Take-out from Google because it is meant for downloading to a computer, not only because of space, but especially for the filemanagement needed thereafter to get a workable collection. But see Take-out and best to start with selecting Photos from 2021 to get an idea with a smaller amount then a full year.
Good luck

My photos are backed up from ,2013 to google. I've always had Samsung Galaxy phones and been with Att. I know how to take them out via computer..but I'm just downloading them one by one to restore them in my gallery. At least that way...the dates are still on them. Thank you very much I appreciate your help. I appreciate google photos..so much.. But ,I have everything except the past year and a half backed up to an external hard drive. I don't leave my photos in an app or a cloud. But,I accidentally deleted my entire camera roll..and had not backed up the last year and a half to two years . Fortunately, google photos had everything. But I have the room in my phone for my entire camera roll..so,I'm manually puting them back. If there are things I don't want..at least I can back up the last two years to my external hard drive...and keep what I do want in my gallery..along with scanning photos..or Any photos I took off prior to my Samsung Galaxy s6...with128 storage. I just wanted to know if there was a way to restore them in bulk. But , apparently there isn't. I sincerely appreciate your answers. Thank you so much. I should probably just continue to do it the way I am...that way I'll get everything restored.. and I can back it all up from there,as well . I hope that makes sense. LoL. Thank you!

But if you know Take-out (which is much improved because you can now select years) for downloading to your computer, then you can use that for the last period.
And after reorganizing and deleting the useless json-files, you can copy the contents to the Pictures-folder in Android via the usb-cable between computer and phone.
That seems the best option now, but you did not tell about any computer. And because you all want on phone, I did guess that you did not have a computer at all.

Best
Answer:
@Adrienne

Question: When I take a picture where does it go? I can't find my gallery. Only Google storage.
I took pictures and I went to send them to someone I could not find my gallery. Where is it?
@Kim
Probably you have tried to take some photos via Whatsapp directly and these pictures are stored in Whatsapp only and be shared from there only, unless you download them to device firrst. Then they also will become visible in your gallery.
This does not have anything to do with Google Photos.
Answer:
No I don't use WhatsApp. So the gallery that is set up in the phones when you buy them new is not Google? So why doesn't my phone have one? I can take pictures but the pictures go to Google photos without me putting them there. Why? I didn't say to move it there.
Answer:
Sorry, but I got the impression that they did not go into your gallery like all Samsung phones have. But now you are saying that you don't have such a gallery and in fact such a gallery is not needed at all, because Google Photos is your gallery. So you just need to learn working with that app because it is much more advanced then usual galleries, but it depends on your own settings if they go to Google also.
And it also depends what you are doing with your pictures normally and if you want to build a nice collection which also can be viewed on TV or on computer.
PS: you may install the more simple Google Gallery Go app.

Question: How to mirror a photo
How to reverse image like mirror image flip the words for painting on a t-shirt
Hi, Geat Gray
Welcome to Google Photos Community Support Forum & thanks for your query.
To flip the words, you need to flip the entire image.
The Google Photos app doesn't have this feature right now. However, you can do so through another app Snap seed.
To do so, please follow these steps.
- Tao to open the photo
- Tap Edit
- Slide the menu bar with the leading tab "Suggestions" towards the left to reveal the option "More". Tap on that
- Slide the menu bar with the leading tab "Markup" to reveal the option Snap seed. However, that will be available only when you have Snap Seed installed on your phone
- Once in Snap Seed, tap on the Tools option in the bottom row,
- On the next screen, tap on "rotate"
- Now, in the bottom bar, you will see a filled and another hollow triangle juxtaposed. Tap on that.
- That will create a mirror image. Save this new edit.

Question: Move photos to sd
move files to SD card
Hi, James Patterson 3160
Welcome to Google Photos Community Support Forum & thanks for your query.
Although there are multiple ways to transfer the content from the internal memory of the phone to an SD card, doing so through Google Photos allows retaining the backup and sync aspect.
Please follow the steps below to achieve the transfer.
- Open Google Photos.
- Tab Library.
- Tap the desired folder under Photos on the device like Camera, Screenshots etc.
- Select photos by long pressing then tap others after the tick confirms the first selection
- You can also long-press and stroke down while still in a pressed condition, to select a batch.
- Next, tap the 3 dot menu top right.
- Tap Move to folder.
- Tap New SD folder, type a folder name then tap Create.
Note that if the photos are backed up to Google Photos this will not remove them from the Photos, and even if the new folder is not selected for Backup & sync any contents will still be deleted if you delete that using the Google Photos app.

Some of the face recognition features happen to be disabled in some regions. That's because of the restrictions put by the local authorities.
If you happen to be from any of that region, then regretfully, you can't tag the persons.

Hi, Prasad.V
Welcome to Google Photos Community Support Forum & thanks for your query.
To bring back the pics to your phone's gallery, either, you can download photos one by one. Regrettably, there is no option to do so on a batch of photos.
Alternatively, you can install the Google One app there is a one time option to restore up to two hundred most recent photos to the device.
However, the local folder structure can not be restored.
To do so, there is no requirement to join Google One, the option is available to everyone.
However, the method may not be effective to recover something when the count is more than two hundred.
Or, you can arrange for a bulk download by visiting the link https://takeout.google.com/;
Select the Google Photos app for data download.
Once the file is ready, you will get an email. Access that & unzip all the attachments into your phone's gallery.
That will bring everything to your phone.
Still, for more information, I suggest you visit this link https://sites.google.com/site/picasaresources/google-photos-1/how-to-transfer-google-photos-back-to-your-camera

@Judy
Not clear how you have tried to "send" them to your computer. But if you open photos.google.com in the browser on your computer and you log-in with your Gmail-account (adress + password), they should all be there since start - if not, they never have been backupped at Google for reasons unknown to me.
But if they all are there (of at least the most important ones), you simply can apply the free-up space option in the app under your profile to clean-up your tablet (almost) completely.
But if a large amount is not there, you can't clean-up at all.
Please come back here to report.

The Google Lens feature in Google Photos may help you identifying the plant.
Open the photo in full screen & then you will find the Google Lens symbol below the photo, at the third place in the bottom row,
Tap that, & point towards the plant, that will launch a web search & bring some useful results.

The app will never delete something without some user initiated action.
Nevertheless, had you backed up the pics to Google Photos?
Are you not finding the deleted pictures there?
Are you not finding the deleted pictures there?
If so, did you delete the pics through Google Photos? or using some Gallery app on your phone?
If you have deleted through Google Photos, then you may still find those in the bin.

Probably you have used the option to make space on your full phone and then all picture disappear from gallery. But if you are correctly logged-in to the Photos-app, they should be still there.
Also check on your private site photos.google.com and log-in with account used in the backupsettings of the app. Good luck.

Hi, Deepak Verman
Welcome to Google Photos Community Support Forum & thanks for your query.
Nothing vanishes through Google Photos without any user initiated action.
Nevertheless, when you tap the delete icon in the Google Photos app, a warning appears telling you what will happen if you proceed. On your phone, that message asks, "Remove from Google account & synced devices?"
When you attempt to manually empty the trash/bin in Google Photos, another warning appears that explains the consequences of permanently deleting those pictures and videos.
If you choose to proceed anyway, there is nothing that any of the volunteers in this forum can do to help you recover your pictures.

However, you may install to your Android device a deleted photo recovery app (be sure to not pick one that requires rooting) https://play.google.com/store/search?q=recover%20deleted%20photos&c=apps;
and run a scan for anything to recover.
